Does that end the argument now?
No, that's the beginning of a whole new argument. :P

I don't think it's much of a moral issue either way.
That's exactly
what I said
, which started the argument -_-

This.
There is no moral dilemma when it isn't a 'subjective morally incorrect' decision to make. You could have kept the gold. The worst that would have happened is they would have taken it back.
On the flip side, you could now be riding around Org on both your new mounts.
Personally, I would have kept it, and had they taken it back, so be it.
It's not stealing, nor is it something that has been set as a general moral anywhere in society.
Basically, you did it to feel good for doing something 'good' when there was no 'good' or 'bad' decision to make.
/shrug.

Oh but you can, there are no set in stone morals. Like I said before, morals are what you want them to be and what you believe is right and wrong.
If that's what you believe then you have absolutely no business telling someone if what they did was right or wrong, and thus have no place in the argument.
You're forcing your own morals upon him by commending him.

I don't understand what you're saying...
My moral code comes from the Bible and Catholic Canon Law. That doesn't solve the world's problems. But it shows that I'm not making up morals out of thin air.
I LOL'ed...

You should've just kept it, there is no moral situation here, the GM didn't ask you if he gave you the right amount of gold so you weren't lying, and no one would be hurt by keeping the gold. Wow gold isn't real, I don't see any problem with keeping it. In the long run it makes no difference either way except you could've had 14k more gold.
I've always found the "WoW gold isn't real" idea to be stupid.
The thin paper note with a one thousand printed on it is not worth an equal amount to the computer you're trying to buy, nor is the digital record of you buying it on your hard plastic card. Are you saying we should go back to the bartering systems?
WoW Gold is just as real as real money, it is simply used to purchase different things. It's a token of the investment, in whatever form, you've put into whatever object, and expect to be compensated for.
Edit: In the case this was a character and another character transaction, I would say you did the right thing. In this way, I'd say you did the more fair thing (but not more right thing), and that it's really up to whatever you want to do to make you happier.

Wow, my first ever post on the Wowhead forums has turned into a debate on moral relativism - didn't see that coming...
Seems to me that any thread people can use to e-preen is asking for it. Philosophy? Lovely stuff, nothing like making yourself feel like a real person for a few minutes.
On your original post - for what it's worth, which is undoubtedly next to nothing, part of me admires you for giving it back and another side of me would always kick myself whenever I saw something I want but couldn't afford. I probably would have kept it myself but I would feel slightly ashamed.
Too bad I can use philosophical evidence to prove your not a real person.
Or even existent for that matter.

You can't make an argument to something that doesn't exist. Therefore you cannot prove to me that I don't exist. Muahahaha.
You on the other hand....
As a great philosopher once said:
"What chair?"
