Has anyone seen this
link
yet.
Looks like Mages aren't doing as badly as some thought they were.
What I found interesting was that on average, Fire does higher DPS than Arcane, though the top DPS spec was Arcane. :)

Takolin linked from Kagami tools,
Which plucks out the top 200 of WoL
.
That should eliminate most of the skilldifferences.
But obviously you should always play the spec which you can pull the most dps with. This will probably differ between players, so I wouldnt hit for fire just because charts say that its better unless you are better at playing fire than arcane.

If spamming something until X happens is your rotation, then you have indeed oversimplified it. Without bringing down the wrath of Squish, even arcane, in which two primary spells are used is more complicated when min/maxing.
I just came in to lol at this =)
You, on the other hand, will need to significantly downgrade the gear, and use spells that do not remotely represent the optimal "rotation" and tell me how your perceived "skill" will be a difference maker.
His point is that a faceroll AB4spamMBAM isn't the optimal rotation. If you really want to min/max, you'll be using AB234spamMBAM generally and AB4spamMBAM only during cooldowns. And manage your mana so that you end up on <1k mana at the end of the fight.
Even on trash, I'll pay attention and drop an Arcane Barrage in at the end of a fight rather than start casting another Arcane Blast or Missile Barrage, only to find that the mob's dead before it hits. This keeps you aware and you can start practising the same attitude when bosses do party-wide stuns in heroics and so forth, instead of wasting cast time and AB stacks. It's trash (or lolheroics), why do I care? Because my goal is to maximise my value, even on trash, and you can't do that by facerolling. Not even as a Ret Pally (any more).
*Track ICD of trinkets, rings, back enchants and what not and pop cooldowns accordingly to maximise the effect of said cooldowns.
Are you implying it might make sense to save Icy Veins / Arcane Power until you've proc'ed trinkets/capes/etc for the stacked effect versus using it as often as possible?
Sometimes and it depends how much time there's between the CDs.
Would it be wise to wait 5-10 seconds > most probably
Would if be wise to wait 30 seconds > highly unlikely unless you know that you won't be able to use a 2nd time.
It takes a great amount of skill and effort to track these things and make good decisions while not losing focus.
I think I've brought this up in another thread, in response to a random comment. If your raid times when they pop Bloodlust (eg, for burn phases), then you should time your cooldowns for then as appropriate. If that means holding out 30 secs on Arcane Power, then so be it - the combined benefit with Bloodlust up will be more valuable.
Then again, you may instead want to keep Icy Veins away from when you use Arcane Power during Bloodlust, for fear of wasting the 20% haste on the AB haste cap. But when Bloodlust isn't active, you'll want to use both. Picking and choosing does take effort.

Idd say that what differs the best between the good is how they handle the latency:) You can be using the exact same gear, enchants, gems, foods, rotation, have the same latency etc. But in the end how you will handle that latency matters alot.
Also, if you have high latency probably arcane is better than fire due to managing dots and debuffs is a *!@#$ with latency.
a good player should manage movement cds etc etc easily anyhow so i dont consider that a factor between good and best tbh.

everyone says what a good player needs to do when to screw dps etc
well i am doing the lowest dps somethimes with my mage and gess what they love to have me in the raid yust because i know tacts don't get hit most of the times know when to use my suicide skills etc.
ye suicide skill that means putting al my cd on and dps alot on trast when the ot die etc en the healer got all the aggro than i yust bacicly kill my self to give the 3 tank the time to get rddy and runn towards the adds
no i am not noob.
Your saying doing low DPS isn't bad, because you know the tactics and don't get hit
most of the time
. You do know that you can do
good
DPS and still do the other two as well right?
Also, suicide skills? You could pop all your CD's and than when the mob is nearly at you Ice Block/Invisibility/Mirror Image and not die, but still get the same result right? Short of the fact that the tank shouldn't take more than 1-2 seconds to grab the mob, which is hardly enough time for you to even cast 1 spell, let alone have the mob run towards you and kill you.
