Probably not. I assume you can get the pet at level 85, but I doubt they would give it to you.

The pet will probably be one of the beast NPC roaming in the starting area of each race (boar for ocs/trolls, moths for draeneis, lynx for blood elves, etc.), so it won't have anything special apart for being the starter pet

don't make such a big deal about it, the level 1 pet, is just one random critter native to the starting area where your hunter starts.......
for example a
Young Nightsaber
young nightsaber for night-elven hunters.....
or a
Stonetusk Boar
stonetusk boar for the human hunters.........
or a
Springpaw Cub
springpaw cub for blood-elven hunters.........
the point is it's not gonna be an exclusive once-in-a-lifetime pet, just a regular pet that you have at lvl 1, native to the starting area of your race, and at lvl 10 you learn to tame another one, simple as that.......
if you have a lvl 80 hunter and you want one so badly, just go to eversong woods and tame a lvl 1 beastie, or go to teldrassil and tame a nightsaber..............
it would be unfair that the starting hunter pets were exclusive, because if there's one hobbie hunters enjoy in general is taming and colecting rare pets that few others have, so to give the new lvl 1 hunters a pet that no lvl 80 can get would be really unfair.
but as the blue-text on the hunter's change states, the pet will be NATIVE TO YOUR STARTING ZONE, meaning that if you want one, just go to your starting zone and tame one.
now , goblin and worgen hunters get the cake here :P their starting zones will most likely have new tipes of beasts (just as the draenei and blood-elf starting zones had new types of beasts like the ravager and the dragonhawk) but since their starting zones will be phases new players will visit something that is completely diferent.
for example in the worgen area, most of the area will be flodded and in ruins when regular non-worgen players step inside xD, so those exclusive low lvl pets may be unatainable (then again, the tainted scar is becoming a worgen zone in cataclysm, who's to say there won't be high lvl versions of their lvl 1 beasts there?)

Raptor for Troll.
Ravager for Draenei.
Mana Wyrm for Blood Elf.
Worg for Orc.
Bat for Undead.
Plainstrider for Tauren.
Boar for Dwarf.
Nightsaber for Night Elf.
Wolf for Human.
Cat
Wolf
Boar for Worgen.
Crab/Gorilla for Goblin.
a few corrections are needed.
Mana wyrms can't be tamed, they are beasts, but for all intents and purpuses serve as critters on eversong woods, much the same way sheeps and cows do in elwynn forest.
blood-elves will have either a dragonhawk or a lynx as those are the 2 prominent beasts in their starting zone.
Worgs are native to northrend, orcs would tame wolves not worgs (yhea they are similar but not equals)
I'd say Dwarves have a higher chance of getting bears rather than boars as their starting pet (maybe due to that kick-ass vainilla wow cinematic depicting that dwarven rifleman and his bear pet)
I doubt worgen will get boars, we don't know what flora and fauna will be native to gilneas, just as the draenei and blood-elven starting zones provide new beast types I'm sure we will see new beast types in gilneas and the lost isles.
after all the flora and fauna of those zones hasn't been revealed yet, so we cannot speculate what will their hunters have as a starting pet.
and last but not least, I doubt Humans will have wolves, because all wolves in elwynn are infected with that plage stuff, it's more likely to have boars as their pets than wolves.
so, the list would be more akin to:
Raptor for Troll.
Ravager for Draenei.
Dragonhawk or Lynx for Blood Elf.
Wolf for Orc.
Bat for Undead.
Plainstrider for Tauren.
Bear for Dwarf.
Nightsaber for Night Elf.
Boar for Human.
Undisclosed for now for Worgen.
Undisclosed for now for Goblin.

I have a strong feeling that goblins will be getting gorillas...in the cataclysm trailer, for literally a second you can see a baby gorrila run across a tent..

Yeah, but I doubt there will be Gorilla's in Azshara heh; they'll probably give a pet from that part of the starting zone.

Troll: Agreed, Raptor is a great choice
Draenei: Ravager is questionable, while they do have a significant presence in the starter zones, Draenei don't particularly like them. I'd say a giant moth is more likely.
Blood Elf: Agreed, can't think of any better choices really
Orc: Agreed. Nothing screams "Orc" more then wolves
Undead: I'd actually go with Darkhound, they aren't tamable beasts atm, but they are still closely associated with Undead.
Tauren: Not a bad choice, Plainstriders are about the only good choice from Mulgore.
Dwarf: Bear is definitely a good choice here.
Night Elf: Nightsaber is also an excellent choice
Human: Bit of an unknown here. I suppose Boar is possible, but it doesn't feel quite right. Wolves wouldn't be a bad a choice if Orcs didn't already have them, although a different style could work out quite well.
Worgen: Probably Dogs, or something in the canine family
Goblins: Difficult to say, probably some tropical animal since both Kezen and the Lost Isles are tropical regions.

Blizzard could always change their classification. Or they could have them converted to beasts after they are tamed.
Heck it could even be tied into the fall of the Lich King. Perhaps the weakening of the plague is resulting in any animals afflicted by the plague (including Darkhounds) to partially revert to their former selves.

Suppose, there are the similar skinned mobs in Zul'Drak after all.

yhea but the human wolves are infected with some sort of plage, I dunno, I think they will be kept for some sort of quest-chain, I doubt a true hunter would begin his or her journey with a diseased pet..........
as for the worgen and goblins.........
I've been checking the cataclysm section of wowwiki, and gilneas aparently has Foxes among their fauna :P foxes are part of the canine family, so I think it's not such a long strech to think that foxes will be their pets.
also in real life, on the victorian era on europe, foxes were highly related to hunting in general (althoug in this example the fox was the prey, not the pet, the hunters used Foxhounds to track them down)
and as for the goblins, I doubt the gorillas will be their pets, the lost isles have plenty of more intresting creatures like Dodos, and even new varieties of Dinosaurs.
come on..... worgen and goblins are new races, it wound't make much sence to give new races old pets......
on the other hand giving the new races, new pets would be more reasonable.
I can admit that moths would make as much sence as ravagers for the draenei pets, so, they are like the blood-elves, 2 diferent posibilities regarding their pets....
but what I disagree is with the human and orc pets.....
all lore ties very very VERY closely the orcs and the wolves, they have been friends and allies since time inmemorial, nothing screams "Orc" more than a big savage wolf.............
besides as I said earlier the wolves in the human starting area are PLAGED, and they actualy ask you to purge them from the forest (as a contrast of the other starting areas that only ask you to thin their populations

as for the forsaken, I really think they will have bats most likely. Bats are commonly assosiated with the forsaken (evey single forsaken base has their flight-points as bats rather than the wyverns the rest of the horde uses) so it would kinda make sence to add bats as their pet, plus bats are in their starting zone, and unlikethose bloodhounds, who are demons, the bats ARE beasts......

This is what i think:
Orcs, Scorpids.. as wolves are NOT associated with their stariting area
Trolls, Raptors as they will be starting on the isles outside the coast of durotar
Taurens, Plainstriders
Undeads, Bats
Blood Elfs, Lynx or Dragonhawk
Goblins, actually.. no idea perhaps gorilla or something
Humans, maybe wolves or something.. in the trailer.. the human hunter has a wolf so perhaps :P
Dwarfs, B.E.A.R.S
Night Elves, Nightsaber
Dranei, Moth or Ravager
Worgen, Pretty damn sure they are gonna get dogs.. because blizz has said that we are getting dogs as new pets in cata and as Worgen are Human Nobles with their hats and stuff, i think dogs should fit them good.
