Do not fear death, instead fear never having truly lived.

How do you atheists deal with the fact that (don't keep on telling me this doesn't exist) you could be wrong and go to a really warm place, with lots of little red guys poking you constantly for the rest of eternity while we others joke, eat, drink, and enjoy an uber swimming pool + what ever we wish?
I see no fact in your post, good sir.

How do you deal with the possibility that death is the end?
How do you deal with lying to yourself to make you feel better?

Man, this is one of the problems with religion. The entire focus is in death and the promise of immortality after death instead of leading a fuller life.
How do you deal with the fact that you've wasted countless hours listening to sermon, reading worthless dogma, and practicing obsolete rituals instead of doing something productive, entertaining, or legitimately intellectual?
I don't know what happens after death, and you shouldn't pretend to either. As a matter of fact, no one should... no matter how long-lasting the tradition of pretending to know everything is.
What do I know? I'm alive now, and its up to me to make the most of it instead of worrying whether I meet some mysogenistic slave-driving god's twisted standards of perfection just in case the slim chance that god and that particular vision of heaven happens to be the correct.
I like this post.

If it wasn't for religious theologians such as Jesus and Martin Luther the lower classes would be still be ruled by oppressive rulers and you wouldn't have the freedom of entertainment and the right to free speech to mock them.
And from these two hopeful and brilliant men there have been more deaths, torturing, and other atrocities such as the witch burnings, crusades, and the ongoing war between Catholic and Protestant Ireland.
I do not blame them.
The oppressive rulers simply adapted to the new "theology" and used it to once more cloud the minds of the weak-willed. The same tactics are still being used today. Religion always has, and will always be, first and foremost a political tool.
But religion and faith are two entirely different creatures.
Religion is a set of rules that govern
all
aspects of a person's life. From food consumption to living arrangements, in a religion there is some form of taboo. It promotes unity in a social group and punishes those who do not adhere to it's tenets, often times bloodily.
Faith is the belief in something. It is defined individually, and can be intensely personal. Each person has to decide what they hold faith in, that includes if they wish to incorporate a religion into them.
You are asking atheists if they mind burning in something you have faith in........But that is not what they believe, so how does in affect them?
It can't.
tl;dr:
George Carlin
says it best.

The bible is not a threat is a doctrine to teach people to respect your fellow man, it teaches people to respect other cultures and religions.
It seems to me that most critics of christianity only point to teachings from the old testament which is very diffrent from the teachings of Jesus in the new testament the old testament has a much more sterner view and vague teachings while Jesus's teachings say God forgives all people of any sins which is extreamly contrary to the wrathfull God of retribution shown in the old testament.
Also when people critcize they seem to point to the Catholic church which goes against Christs teachings with backwards teachings such as shunning homosexuals and retain old practices such as dull generic masses and forcing priests into celebecy.
Couple things
1. The old testament IS in fact part of jesus' teachings, you are supposed to follow them (ever jot and tittle (matt 5:17-19) (and dont tell me its all fulfilled because earth is still sort of here...it hasnt "passed")
2. Christians are supposed to KILL people who dont follow Jesus, which Jesus said himself (Luke 19:27 "But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them here and kill them in front of me.")
There you are, those "vague" teachings that arn't in effect anymore actually ARE and christianity isnt a religion a peace but of death. These conclusions are based on your own bible, of course the bible is very contradictory on itself so meh

There's a good probability I would have a flying god damn car right now if it wasn't for Christianity. You do not get to say that it has positively benefited society as a whole. Freedom of speech? What the hell are you talking about? Perhaps we have freedom on speech because of Christianity, but as a reaction against Christianity, which acts to suppress anything that runs counter to its doctrine. It made such a mess that something good ended up coming out of all the &*!@ it caused; a similar parallel can be drawn with George W. Bush on a smaller scale.
