You guys are so cool, smoking pot and everything. I'll never be as cool as you!
Seriously, smoking is bad and so are drugs. Knock off the social back patting that goes around with doing them.
You're so cool, with you're self righteousness and everything.
Annual Causes of Death in the United States
Tobacco 435,000
Poor Diet and Physical Inactivity 365,000
Alcohol 85,000
Microbial Agents 75,000
Toxic Agents 55,000
Motor Vehicle Crashes 26,347
Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs 32,000
Suicide 30,622
Incidents Involving Firearms 29,000
Homicide 20,308
Sexual Behaviors 20,000
All Illicit Drug Use, Direct and Indirect 17,000
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Such As Aspirin 7,600
Marijuana 0.
It is bad for you, but the thing is that it is so impotent that the pros outway the cons for an incredible amount of people.
I have no idea where you pulled those figures from, but it's worth pointing out that Marijuana falls under illicit drug use.
Also, without identifying how those numbers were compiled, a cause of death could overlap with suicide, alcohol, toxic agents, and most definitely motor vehicle crashes, homicide, incidents involving firearms.

If I insulted you in anyway DoctorLore I'm sorry; I just don't like drugs, legal or illegal, simple as that.
No sir you didn't, nor do I hope I offended you (too much at least :P).
Nah, you didn't offend me.

You're right. However, all of those, when narrowed down to instances involving marijuana, would not compare to tobacco deaths, or even alcohol deaths related to the same things.

How many deaths can be attributable to staying up late? (being the other 'mind-altering state' suggested in this thread)
Two problems with the way you're looking at the numbers.
1) You're not considering how the deaths are occuring, and over what period of time. Marijuana deaths are more likely to be on-the-spot deaths. Tobacco deaths are likely to be longer term deaths, over a greater period of use. If you add up the amount of marijuana smoked leading up to a marijuana related death, and compare it to the amount of tobacco smoked leading up to a tobacco related death, that would assist in demonstrating which is worse for you.
2) You're not considering the volume of usage. Alcohol consumption is significantly higher than marijuana consumption. So it stands to reason that alcohol related deaths are significantly higher than marijuana related deaths.
Australia has a high rate of sunbathing related deaths, due to skin cancer. That doesn't mean that sunbathing is necessarily worse than marijuana. You need to look at the whole context of how the numbers were compiled before you can use them in your argument.

Hmm, I feel the need to post here.
People have the right to do what they want to their bodies. I'm always going to believe that and say it. I don't agree with excessive drug use of any kind, whether it be weed, alcohol, or anything else. I've witnessed first hand the lives of a few people who used to be close to me (my ex boyfriend being one of them) get ruined due to drug use.
Now, I'm not saying that everyone who smokes drugs is a bad person or a giant loser haha, don't think I am. I know plenty of successful, amazing people who do so as well. My experiences with what it can do to people have been negative, that's all.
I honestly would never do the stuff. I've never had any interest in it.. I just see it as pointless really. As long as people are doing it away from me and are actually being responsible (as in, not turning into someone who they ONLY do drugs, and nothing else), I don't really have a problem with it. Like I said, people have a right to do what they want.. as long as it's not directly affecting me.

This... and this ideal can be applied to certain other topics currently being discussed on Randomness at present as well.

Look, dude, I apologize. I was wrong to do that, and I admit it.

I shouldn't point out the obvious counter that few heavy marijuana smokers live long enough to die from lung cancer, should I....
But it's a legitimate argument, so what the hell :)

Cryptic messages without evidence do nothing to prove your point.
I'm not saying it isn't legitimate, just saying that if you plan to actually make an argument out of this, you might want to provide some sources for your reasoning. Otherwise, your statement is completely useless.
