What made you roll a lock?

This is a story-sharing threat - if you are looking for QQ etc. move on ;o)
After some trial accounts i chose playing a rogue because i like stealth and the neat playstile: infiltrate, eliminate the quest mob (retrieve the quest item), retreat, done.
I also like the hitman series games.
During levelling times my regard for locks was pretty low...cloth wearing targets.
One day at the beach in STV an ugly gnome lock 3 lvl lower than me refused to die during my stunlock-attempt (he was killing my quest-mobs and he had a PvP trinket...unfair)
Long story short: next thing i see is me swimming around with a green channel out of my posterior and i had to use sprint to save my life...quite embarrassing.
The second hint i got that locks are actually quite strong if played well was a warlock named Quarag, the main of another rogue that helped me a lot (if you read this, i have not forgotten your kindness ;o) and he was pretty good at mopping the floor with gankers.
When i finally started to do PvP with my rogue more regularly i found out...i was pretty bad at it.
As a medium aged player my reflexes and hand-to-eye-coordination are probably inferior to the average gamer-kids. And melee control is all about quick reaction, unfortunately.
So i finally decided to lvl an alt (yes, i actually got a char to lvl 70 without a single alt), my lock.
Levelling was a breeze, i could kill the entire camp including the quest mob in the same time my rogue needed to sneak to the quest mob and PvP was much more rewarding. The range gave some time to plan ahead and put the knowledge about the enemy to good use.
Summary: I found out i was MUCH better in playing a lock than playing a rogue both in PvE and PvP, so he is my main now at lvl 80 while my rogue is still lvl 70 and sits in Nagrand to collect the consortium gems once a month ;o)

My story's pretty simple too. My wife and roommate had been playing for a few months right after TBC came out. I had watched them play and finally decided to give in and join them. I looked over the classes and the warlock jumped out at me as the coolest class (at the time). So I rolled an undead warlock and went to town. 80 levels later, I do not regret my decision.

I wanted a character similar to the Necromancer in EQ and Warlock was it. Plus I love having a pet and I know too many hunters so wanted something different.

the reasons for me choosing a warlock go back to my history of final fantasy games (>.< i know).
i always liked the black mages in those games (vivi in FFXIII being the prime example) and when final fantasy XI (the first FF MMO) came out i played a BLM. i got it to max level along with various sub-classes but BLM was my main. he was a taru taru (tiny little cute fella).
i have some very fond reminiscences of FFXI but it was a flawed game in so many important ways so when WoW released i was so pleased to find a lot of what i enjoyed about FFXI without all the terrible flaws.
cute little guys with massively destructive powers is always an fantasy trope that's appealed so a gnome was the clear choice. it came down to mage or warlock and i think warlock was close enough to the FFXI BLM but also different enough to catch my interest.
it has continued to be an incredibly interesting class that's had its ups and downs but always been fun and powerful in the right hands.
regarding the others who play with their wives, i wish i could get my wife involved in this hobby. she thinks (correctly) that i'm a massive geek ^_^

I was originally going to be a blood elf rogue, but I only had a trial at first and couldn't get blood elves. So I made an undead rogue and got it to level 9 before making another character (Only discovering afterward that the trial went to 20 and not 10 XD). I decided a warlock looked cool, so I picked it. And never played the rogue again. ^___^

I've always enjoyed spell casting class in any game. My last MMO was Lineage 2 and rolled a necromancer. Some of my best pvp gaming ever was with that charcter. When I came to WoW, i was struggling to choose lock or mage. My brother had already been playing WoW and rolls a lock. Once I saw what locks are capable of from watching him, it was easy picking from there.

It was in TBC era. I was ~63 druid that time, with 4 other people in party (including 2x70) doing pvp daily in Hellfire Peninsula. Then, a level 70 Horde lock fly down on her Netherdrake next to us (epic flyers were actually quite rare at that time). Long story short, she soloed all of us. That made me roll a lock as a third char, but it quickly became main.
Played a necro/mesmer in GW and Warlocks seemed alot like em. Leveled one to 80 and lost my account and now im doing it all over again :)
I had similiar history (Necromancer as main), though what I liked in him was ability to control undead armies (Minion Master). Since I couldn't do this in WoW, I just rolled Huntard.

I'm leveling each class, and I have Warrior, Mage, Paladin, and am well along in Hunter. So, I browsed the different class forums for what to level next. Warlock jumped out at me as being lots of fun (I really like DPS). Also, I have Orc, Troll, Blood Elf, Tauren, so Undead was an obvious choice.
Cheers.
