Why Your Religion?

Just going to clarify one thing. I do not believe that the existence of God is beyond reasonable doubt. While I do believe it's less likely, I think that it's perfectly possible a sentient being created the worlds.
I believe that it's beyond reasonable doubt that the Christian, Judaic, Islamic, and various Pantheon's Gods exist, or at least the stories that go with them. I am not calling out your Religion, it's just that I am only versed in so many, so it would be wrong for me to dismiss them outright.

We view the situation differently. Imagine that we are the only two first, and only people on earth (not adam and eve, just who we are, for hypothetical reasoning). Imagine that you decide to jump off a cliff because it would be fun. I tell you that I believe you will die, and that would be a bad thing, although I have never seen anyone jump off a cliff, and I have never seen anyone die. You tell me that you don't believe that, and that I must provide a evidence and relieve the 'burden of proof', or you will disregard my claim. Seems irresponsible. Perhaps you should also ask questions and do the research before you jump. Why leave something so important in other people's hands?
The fact still remains that the 'burden of truth' for defining what you believe in, lies in your hands, and no one else's. Don't throw it onto people who say they are Christian to provide the truth for you, with the weight of your future in their hands. Take responsibility for defining your own beliefs, coming to your own conclusions, and finding your own truths.

You're forgetting something.
We have.
Now we just want you guys to prove to us why we're wrong.
Not to mention that it's a bad hypothetical situation, especially for those of us who believe in evolution.

How long have we been here near this cliff? Have you ever fallen from any height and felt its effects? There's your evidence. That why you believe it.
Or, if we just spontaneously came into existence a few minutes before and you have no evidence at all that it will happen, you've just had a lucky guess. You might as well have told me that I would burst into flame if I jumped off the cliff, or that I would sprout wings and fly if I jumped off, since you have no evidence for any.
In addition, why should I respect your beliefs if they have no backing to them?
Because respect for other people is 'right', irrespective of their beliefs. :)Says who?
I respect those who earn my respect. I have intrinsic respect for no one.

This misses the point entirely. The point is that you should find out for yourself before you jump, not rely on other people. I might shrug my shoulders and let you jump. Why trust me? Why trust Christians?

Guess I should've clarified. You're second statement. We have made our own beliefs, found our own truths, and they are different to yours. There can only be one... That is correct.

We have.Refresh my memory. What empirical evidence do you have against the existance of God?We don't have solid evidence again him, but we don't need to. We don't have solid evidence against dragons/unicorns/faeries/elves/etc. either, but we have no reason to believe in them either. You're the one making the claim. We're the skeptics.
Our positive theories (big bang, evolution, abiogenesis, etc.), we DO have evidence for.

No it can't; there are many truths in the world after all.

no proff of something is by itself a empirical proof that something doesn't exist.
Logical fallacy.
We have made our own beliefs, found our own truths, and they are different to yours. There can only be one... That is correct.
Adamsm is right. Consider the Roman and Greek gods - different beliefs and truths, both are 'correct', per se, in that they describe the same thing from two different perspectives.
I respect those who earn my respect. I have intrinsic respect for no one.
You can mount a logical argument without relying on religion to demonstrate why respect irrespective of beliefs is the right thing to do. Notably, because if you didn't respect other people, they have no reason to respect you.

Unless you want to get incredibly deep into the philosophy of existence, only one can be true.

I agree with you completely. Make up your mind, and live with the consequences of your decisions. I will make known my beliefs, and if you don't want any part of it, then have a nice day. Same goes for everyone.

I did. That doesn't make what he said any less logically incorrect, rendering his argument, useless.
Edit: To clarify, his statement should read:
"No proof of something is by itself empirical
evidence
that something doesn't exist."
To say that it's empirical 'proof' implies a conclusion that is logically flawed. But in any event, as evidence, it's pretty insubstantial evidence.
Edit: No pun intended.

And something I said earlier; that the One Creator is actually all of the Gods that exist put into one thing; everyone is actually right in this case, it took different forms depending on who called on it. There is no one true truth in existence in all honesty; and until someone can definitively prove that we are all wrong, no one is right, and no one is wrong, this is an entire area of gray.

There is truth out there, and there is no definate proof one way or the other, and there are consequences for the decision you make, or perhaps not. But the decision is yours, and yours alone. Don't put me in the courtroom of your mind. You provide your own evidence. I'll answer any questions you have the best I can, and try to provide the best example I can, but that is the extent of my obligation, my desire, and my power. The decision, is yours.
