Ha ha.
Asking what a tank is in a dungeon at about level 38. ha ha.
Getting marooned at a graveyard in Duskwood when I was too low level and not knowing what a Hearthstone was.
Being ninja cos I didn't know different gear is for different classes and then couldn't be bothered to check what gear my class needed.

My favorite two stories weren't even under level 40.
I was late 40s in Felwood and I was laying waste to all the furbolds in the cave between there are winterspring (which in itself is so dumb) and I ended up in the Moonglade... A place that I had never seen before, had no monsters I could see, no NPCs, nothing. (I never found the town) I thought I had discovered a new zone or a place nobody had ever been. I was bragging to my friend who got me started in the game and he laughed and laughed at me...
My second story was leveling up my Paladin in the first few months of TBC, I was level 67 or so and I was getting camped by these horde dudes and I was emo-ing out in general chat that nobody would help me, someone said "Bubble hearth noob!" I typed "Why does everyone keep saying that? WTF is bubblehearth" and right as I hit enter I realized what it meant... I had never bubble hearthed and didn't even consider it a possibility until LEVEL 67! I felt like a such an idiot.
some lesser offenses:
-
Not realizing that instances were for groups and spending 3 hours trying to solo BFD at level 20... I think I killed the first two murlocs and nothing else.
-
Leveling as a holy paladin but only equipping STR gear and 2h weapons
-
Running all over the world looking for "the places where the battlegrounds are" I went looking for Warsong Gulch (which is a place its just much different in game) and Alterac Valley... So dumb.

I was such a noob when I started that I thought the best stat for DKs was crit, and went all the way to 80 favoring crit and mainly seeking pieces with crit, and gemming for crit, and chanting for crit. I was promptly scolded that it was a bad thing.
Funny enough, on this current tier (Tier 16) Crit happens to be the best stat for DKs, so I guess we've come full circle.
Also, previously, I was such a noob that I thought you could only socket gems on their respective colors. I thought it was impossible for example, to put red gems on yellow sockets. It even went as far as me believing that you could only socket prismatic gems on prismatic sockets :P
Boy was I surprised when I saw that guildie who socketed 3 blue gems on his chest that had 3 red sockets.

My very first toon was a mage. I was running around at level nine or ten mining a copper node, when I got attacked by a wandering mob and died. For weeks I was under the impression that gathering a node aggro'd all of the mobs nearby, so I cleared out all of the mobs in an area completely before I would mine a vein.
My hunter used to stack as much stamina on gear as he could get because I thought more health was the key to not dying so much.
Also the first time my pet died I was asking in my guild for a healer to come rez my pet....
Yep. I was n00b.

Actually there's some truth in that.
Mining a node DOES aggroes mobs in a short radius around it. Even mobs that are far below your level. The radius is not significantly large, but its there.

Could had been worse, when I began playing, I dind't even knew you could resurrect pets at all, I thought once they died you had to replace them. LOL
(Remember too that this was back when you had to manually level them, and keep their loyalty up and feed them the right thing. All of these factors led to me not liking hunters for quite a while)

I was such a noob back then, that once i reached lvl 12 in elwynn forest, i decided that i was ready to move to the next zone.
And promptly crossed the river south.

@Shadosan - I got a good chuckle from that becuase I did the same thing just being curiuos.
I was such a nOOb I almost rage quit becuse I couldn't kill anything as a Holy Pally in Zangermarsh when a guildie said "we want you to heal at 70 - level RET dummy..."
Amazing how fast things started to die, lol

UGh. Pet Happiness. Pet leveling. Specific pets for specific roles. Keeping stacks of ammo on hand, and switching out between white ammo for questing/dailies and blue ammo for raids.
Yeah, Hunters used to suck a lot.
I also remember on one of my first warriors, I was running around as Fury with a shield. I was confused as to why I would have had abilities that required a shield, if I wasn't supposed to use a shield...

I was such a noob that I thought that the armor of the gear was better than the stats on it..and therefor threw away perfectly good gear in favor of gear with more armor...
I was playing as a holy paladin.

I liked all that micro management, although I have to say I wouldn't want it back.
You did feel a lot closer to your pets back then.
As for the shield, lol yup been there done that.
Wjhen I started on launch I didn't really understand the specs, So of course I took the coolest sounding abilities with no thought to what they actually did.
By the time I was level 40 I think well over half my talents were in the Prot tree because why the hell wouldn't I want Shield Specialization with Improved Shield Block, and along with that 5 points in Toughness seemed like a no brainer.
I was eventually pointed on the right path, and did actually become a tank, but boy I feel like an idiot looking back.

* was scared to take the boat to Darkshore because in a diff game I played, if you aggro'd something it
never
stopped chasing you. "Train!" anyone?
* threw myself off the edge of Darnassus thinking I'd take the easy route to the docks via water.
* took me months to remember to
jump
onto boats seeing as you were dumped into the water and laughed at by departing passengers if you didn't.

I thought agility made me run faster and always prioritised getting agility on gear, even though it wasn't at all useful on my character (I was a Warlock)

When I first started playing (Back at the end of Firelands in Cata) the first time I got killed by Deathwing burning a zone I thought someone was hacking the game, cause you know, I just got 1 shot by a freaking giant dragon. When my gf back then explained it to me I could just tell she was trying so hard to hold in the laughter

I didn't find out this was possible until after getting 11 characters to level 90, and I started in late Cata. I was aware that prismatic sockets would take any colour of gem but, surprisingly, there's no indication anywhere in the game that you can put, say, a yellow gem in a blue socket. If not for Mr Robot telling me to do that to my Warrior's gear, I'd probably still be clueless. There are some things that should not just be left to the player to work out ¬.¬
Well, TIL. 5 90s and I only just found out you could do this with Gems...... I'm still a noob >.<

Well, lets see... My main is a huntard that with that being said..
A long time ago, on a computer that is beyond the trash heap, I played a Dwarf Hunter. I knew nothing about the game, I had already played the regular non-mmo game, and enjoyed the heck out of it, so I decided what the heck? Now, I commend those who have played since Vanilla, but I joined in during the BC, near the end of BC at that. I had no idea what a guild was, so I just played.
Professions: miner, tailor (WTH?) That was my first mistake, and I will never live down the fact that my pet was always grabbing aggro. in dungeons, until a nice player told me to take off growl. I was like "huh?", he then explained in patient detail how to turn it off. While I do not remember that players name, it was on Rivendare.
Now I have growl on only when I solo crap for the heck of it, and of course, it's Skinning/Leatherworking.
We all made noob mistakes, and it's refreshing to see players make them, and even better knowing that someone is willing to take the time to explain stuff.

my first character
a blood elf mage because i thought female blood elves were adorable and arcane mages had options, i found the first to be true but not the second
had an entourage of 4 paladins to escort me through dungeons because for some reason, i couldn't survive past 30 due being hated by random numbers and had very little gold
i thought gear was irrelevant because i was a spellcaster, so i ran around in only a shirt and a pair of thighhighs while otherwise unarmored with my panties exposed, i eventually found out i was very wrong
i got lost in silvermoon city spending 3 hours looking for the "Stocking Vendor"
i flirted with random people for tips, 5 gold for 5 minutes of flirting, complete with double entendre and other forms of innuendo
i ERPed for gold, 5 gold for 5 minutes
i tried channeling spells through my fists, Armstrong style
i'm nowhere near as bad as i used to be but still pretty bad
i can't kite with any skill at all
i can't tank, but i can be a good lowbie MoP healer with an underpowered healing class because i can spam so much overhealing on the tank it is ludicrous
i get badly beaten by silver named foes
i waste mountains of cash on gear at the auction house every 5 levels and in pandaria, every level

I was lucky enough to have RL friends to listen to, and I spent a LOT of time soloing, both of which helped me keep my learning curve private, in early BC.
But it's still upsetting that agility doesn't help my toon get up steep hills better than without it.
And O Dear God why can't I skin Murlocs?
I took it out on dragonkin later. Dragonkin are like one-stop shopping: silver, cloth, AND leather. Heh.
