Shaman (enh) solo-ing instances....how much level spread needed?

I’m a new player, finally gave WOW a try starting a few weeks ago after hearing co-workers talk about it for years. The first toon I started was a tauran shaman, and while I’ve tried some other races and classes now, that shaman is still my favorite--not the easiest to play, at least not from what I’ve seen, but most interesting.
Currently it is set up in enhancement, is in the low twenties, and has mostly OK to mediocre green gear (co-workers pulled me into their guild, gave me frost-weave bags, and I did get one to smith a weapon for me at 20, but for the most part have been self-supplied, only big purchase so far has been glyph of stoneclaw totem. I did just pull a pattern for deviate scale belt from the guild bank and have been farming deviate scales, so soon as I level my leatherworking some more I I'll have a cash cow for a bit and could invest in some more equipment).
My playing times are erratic and often short, so I can’t really join up with regular groups. Once in a long while I’ll know that I’m going to get a big enough block of time that I could use dungeon finder, but that will not be so common either (have done a couple of Ragefire Chasm runs, but it is shorter than most other instances).
However it looks like a lot of the more interesting content is in the instances (as well as a lot of the best equipment!). I get that half the fun of instances is working together as a group, but when that isn’t feasible I’d like to start running some of them solo. Reading the comments on here, when I read about people solo-ing instances it most often seems to be as hunters (with pet tanking, hunting providing DPS and healing of pet), rogue (because with stealth they can avoid issues that nobody else can), or paladins (ummm, I guess they are just pretty flexible and good?).
What I’m wondering is, how feasible is solo-ing as a shaman? And what sort of level difference should I use as a rule of thumb between the instance level and my character level? For example, I’d love to do Wailing Caverns (I'd like to replace the pattern for deviate hide belt in the guild bank). It has a listed minimum level of 10, and advised level of 15-21 here (or 17-23 on WowWiki). Would being three above the Wowhead advised level be reasonable? Five? Something else?
I’d love to hear from people based on their experience with solo-ing shamans.

As an enhancement shaman its not going to be easy. Not until you get
Maelstrom Weapon
for instant heals and
Feral Spirit
for their ability to heal you as they attack.
But if you're game anyway, you're probably going to want
at least
a 10 level difference. Remember though, at that sort of level difference, the items that drop from the bosses may be of no use to you.
Edit: Something I forgot to mention. Use a 1 handed weapon + shield for the large amount of extra armor (and tiny chance to block). It'll be much more difficult if you use a 2 handed weapon or dual-wield.

OK, thanks for the feedback, discouraging as it is.
And for kicks I've wandered into Ragefire Chasm (not a serious dungeon, but easy to get to) a few times, solo, as I've leveled up. At 18 died to the first rock-snake thing. At 22 cleared through the first part OK, but when pulled three ragefire troggs (I think that was the name), character couldn't deal with it. At 24 dealt with three and came out in pretty good shape....but the next lightning bolt drew five, and no amount of totem use managed to either keep them busy enough or weaken them fast enough to take them all down*. There may be other issues with solo-ing, but for starters I can see that without some way to control or avoid crowds, it will be a pretty tough go.
* not saying it couldn't be done, I think with an adequate plan that might have been possible, I just wasn't ready for that large of a crowd....and of course didn't have access to my normal solution to crowds, which is "ghost wolf and get out of there!"
(and yes, was using a shield. Actual weapon DPS is not a huge contributor to my shaman's overall DPS, while shield close to doubles armor his armor as well as giving more stat boosts, so for the moment it is weapon and shield unless he's actually in a group as DPS)
