I cannot believe anyone in this thread has said
The Wire
yet, you disappoint me, Wowhead.
Also known as the show that brought Baltimore back to the limelight, it is Obama's favorite TV show (though, to be honest, I don't think that matters). You said you wanted directing, storyline and acting, but not necessarily the three? Your standards are set too low, my friend.
The Wire
is easily the best series ever made, in almost whatever criteria you may want to use. I think I can describe it better with David Simon's (the creator) words: "%^&* the average viewer.". It's a show that assumes it's viewers are intelligent and attentive, so it takes time to create intricate plot, meaning and direction. I've watched all 5 seasons 5 times, and it always surprises.
The Wire.
#$%^ yeah.
Also,
Oz
.

Since you mentioned the wire, it reminded me of
this
.
There was a spoof of what Breaking Bad would be like in Canada. Something about how the health care paid for the treatment and not needing to cook meth for money. I just can't find the video.

Two and a Half Men (got better since they kicked Charlie off)
Totally disagree. Although a complete nutcase, Charlie Sheen helped create that show for what it is today. His sexist, horny, DGAF attitude was a nice counter part to Alan's wholeheartedness. They should have just done away with the series after he was fired.
I watch a lot of Intervention and Hoarders, Law & Order: SVU, and Pass Time. I don't watch TV series as they air, in fear of missing an episode. I just wait for them to come on Netflix and watch them there. We just finished Heroes (I watched it religiously when it was on, and wanted the boyfriend to see it) and just started season four of Weeds. Next up is Breaking Bad; I missed a couple episodes and just couldn't keep watching it unless I could watch them back to back.

I don't think there's a TV show in existence that has what I would call "good acting," and often also "good writing." Once you allow for these being bad, you can enjoy stuff as brain candy. I really enjoyed
BBC Merlin
(but that's mostly because there are a lot of hot half-naked guys in it). I heard very good things about
BBC Sherlock
as well but never watched that.
I've been a fan of
Futurama
since it first came out long ago, I still recommend it as a very witty and funny show (though the later seasons are not as good, I think).
Whitest Kids You Know
is great for comedy.
If you watch one anime, watch
Death Note
. It's not perfect, but it's very good in terms of story and suspense (artwork, too). I'm not into this anymore, but in the day I was a big fan even after having given anime up ages before. Personally I wouldn't recommend the movies or all that hype, the anime was very good.
If you want something creepy and suspenseful, a lot of people have a high opinion of
Twin Peaks
. I personally really dislike David Lynch and anything he made, but he is talented as far as surreal and weird stuff. You might like that.

Seems that Alphas was cancelled last night. I'd get a link but its a pita to do it on a phone. One of the actors tweeted about it then it was confirmed later on. Haven't read a reason why yet.
As for Two and a Half Men, I liked both. If you really like Sheen I suggest watching Anger Managment. It airs on FX. It starts a new season tonight as well as 90 episodes.
I also enjoy House. I liked the earlier stuff more.
There are tons of crime drama, the one I watch the most is probably Criminal Minds. I enjoy Elementary, another modern take on Sherlock Holmes.
There's also another reality show coming on tonight on TBS. It's called King if the Nerds. Going to watch the first episode and see if its any good.

Still hasn't been completely confirmed, but yeah I saw that Gary tweet too.

Suddenly, Dexter piqued my interest when i saw that Yvonne Strahovski (our beloved Sarah from Chuck) entered.

Season 7 was terrible
because
of Yvonne. Seriously, that Hannah $%^& was the dumbest story the series has ever had. The seasons tarted out really strong, Deb and Dexter had a great back and forth when she found out he was a killer. It just got so terrible after he started in with Hannah though, the whole plot line just made no sense. This whole theme of "oh, somebody can accept me for my darkness finally", not like we haven't seen that with Brian, Lila, Miguel, and Lumen.
I liked the ending though, I have my fingers crossed for a good final season next year.

Loving this season of Supernatural. The last few episodes have been great.
Liking The Americans. Seems quite interesting. Looking forward to more.
The Following, staring Kevin Bacon, seems okay. I enjoy bits of it, but I'm not sure if I will continue to watch it.

Hmm, has anyone been watching Cult - CW? I've just finished the pilot, and it was a little better than I thought it would be. I think it's kind of similar to The Following, mentioned above. It's got a guy from The Vampire Diaries and Jo Harvelle from Supernatural in it.

So Alphas was cancelled..../sigh And they leave so many %^&*tier shows on.
Also, first season of Riders of Berk is finished....Squuuuuuuuueeeeee! lol.

So just finished watching the first season of Dragons: Riders of Berk, and it is a awesome cartoon. Plays up well to the feelings of the movie, the animation is excellent for being a lower budget cartoon(nearly on par with the specials) and all of the characters are still almost like they had been by the end of the movie. Only flaw to the show is that they gave more emphasis to Tuffnut and not enough to Ruff....but then again, I've been a fan of her since the movie, so maybe bias speaking lol.
Looking forward to the second season, which is renamed Defenders of Berk, and after what occurs in the season finale, it's obvious why the name change exists.
