Everything I have read, and that my guild has read, states that the mage freeze your cannons when the enemy ship hits 75%, 50%, and 25%. However we just got done with a run where we had to jump over and kill 9 mages. Has anyone else been having this happen to them?

I do not recall how many mages we downed. It could be a timed as well as damage based. meaning if your cannons cannot damage the other ship quick enough, they may call in more. Our DPS picked up on turret usage quick and the only reason we wiped once was because we only sent 3 over to kill the mage, it did not die fast enough and the stacks got too high for the healer.
Amazingly simple and fun.
You can try to ahve the raid leader send in a ticket asking if the casters are based on % hp or time.

You get the cannons frozen at 75/50/25 if you spam the hell out of your keyboard. We got 4 frozen phases at 25man and 6 at 10man (but this had another buggy reason also, not just general slacking of the shooters).
Just push the "1" as often as possible and remember that "2" is on separate cooldown.
