Decided to spend some time on it thinking of one for each spec. Some are similar but then again so are the specs. All austetic of course and able to be turned on/off.
Warrior
Arms: Your armor has become so tarnished with blood it may never be clean again.
Fury: Your ferocity in battle shows, there are countless battle scars etched into your armor.
Prot: That big wall of steel you lug around on your back must be pretty heavy, at least you're such a big fellow.
Warlock
Affl: You've been causing death and suffering to your foes for so long the very ground you walk on is stricken with pain as it slowly withers.
Demo: Dabbling in the demonic arts has taken its toll on you, are those wings?
Destro: Your very soul is aflame with fel energies leaving a trail of fel embers in your wake.
Shaman
Elem: You've become an electrical conduit periodically discharging static electricity.
Enh: You're slightly phased into the astral plane, almost ghost-like.
Resto: You've harnessed the very power of nature sprouting new life at your feet.
Rogue
Ass: Your weapons are so saturated with poisons they literally drip of it slowly killing the very ground you walk on.
Combat: Your armor has become so tarnished with blood it may never come clean again.
Sub: You've spent so much time in the shadows you've become slightly harder to see even in plain daylight.
Priest
Disc: You glow with a protective aura of the light.
Holy: Through years of rigorous training and service to the light your hands have started to naturally emanate the power of the light.
Shadow: You've been causing death and suffering to your foes for so long the very ground you walk on is stricken with pain as it slowly withers.
Paladin
Holy: Through years of rigorous training and service to the light your hands have started to naturally emanate the power of the light.
Prot: That big wall of steel you lug around on your back must be pretty heavy, at least you're such a big fellow.
Ret: You've been serving retibution to your enemies in the name of the light so long you appear to have the faint glow of divine wings.
Mage
Arcane: Your dabbling in dangerous arcane magics have begun to distort time and space leaving temporal rifts in your wake.
Fire: Your body radiates intense heat leaving a trail of embers wherever you step..
Frost: Through years of practicing in the art of frost magic you naturally leave a layer of frost wherever you go.
Hunter
BM: All those tattoos and markings on you, almost mistook you for an animal.
MM: You use that gun/bow/crossbow so much...Good thing you've got that big ammo pouch/quiver there.
Surv: Your armor has become so tarnished from the blood of surviving in the wilderness it may never be clean again.
Druid
Balance: A thin ray of moonlight shines down on you, Elune smiles upon her children.
Feral Bear: Talk about beastly, you're huge.
Feral Cat: Lurking in the shadows for so long has honed your predatory skills making you harder to see even in plain daylight.
Resto: As the very embodiment of life, new life sprouts from your roots.
Death Knight
Blood: Your armor has become so tarnished with blood it may never be clean again.
Frost: With your heart cold as ice you leech heat from your surroundings leaving frost wherever you tread.
Unholy: You're such an unholy entity that life begins to slowly wither where you dare tread.

I like this idea, but I think it can be simplified.
Imagine one unique
class
trait available at the maximum level and one unique
talent
trait for 50 points spent in a tree. Obviously, new expansions would have to include subtle new class traits at the new maximum levels, but as long as they're small, that shouldn't be a problem.
Now for an example:
At level 80, if you're a rogue (regardless of spec), you will gain a shadowy aura something like Shadow Form, but different and far less intense. Now if this rogue also has 50+ points in Assassination, he might have glowy, flowy, blood-red eyes and a reddish aura surrounding his lower arms (more intense around his hands). Sound good?
I think this would make it easier on Blizzard and still really nice for players. On a side-note, players who don't wish to see other players' unique effects could have the option to turn them off in their video menu.

K, I decided to expand on this some more xD. I took my favourite parts of other peoples' posts and added my own bits. Each class has a passive special effect at maximum level, added effects for combat, and one for each talent specialization.
Death Knight
Passive
: Black, murky clouds hover around the back of the shoulders. Critters run away when near.
In Combat
: Eyes shine much brighter.
50 Points in Blood
: Blood spatters are randomly created on the ground when the death knight lands attacks.
50 Points in Frost
: Tiny snowflakes fall from the death knight's body. A faint, cold aura rises around feet when standing still.
50 Points in Unholy
: Blight is created anywhere the death knight walks, more intense the longer he stays. Tiny spiders crawl from the blight.
Druid
Passive
: Green moss effect on skin/armour (varies by armour type). Moss effect replaced by glow effects on animal form tattoos. When near critters, they will move to the druid and follow it for a short while if it moves (not in combat).
In Combat
: The animal form tattoos will glow more seethingly, with an effect similar to fire in slow motion.
50 Points in Balance
: A tiny, tiny twinkling constellation hovers in the air around the druid's forehead. Every so often it will very slowly shift into a new pattern.
50 Points in Feral Combat
: Blood smeared on face, dripping down the front of the druid's chestpiece, just under the helm. In animal form, blood will be smeared around the druid's mouth.
50 Points in Restoration
: Flowers and greenery grow wherever the druid walks.
Hunter
Passive
: Eyes will twinkle occasionally (similar to the sharpening stone effect). When near critters, they will move to the hunter and follow it for a short while if it moves (not in combat).
In Combat
: Twinkle effect on eyes lasts until combat ends.
50 Points in Beast Mastery
: Pets emit pulsing waves that create an image of the pet that grows larger in an outward direction from it's body (but really fast) before fading away (again, really fast). Each pulse is roughly as long as a heartbeat. This effect creates the illusion that the pet's body can barely contain it's energy/power.
50 Points in Marksmanshi
p: Circular, translucent crosshair near hunter's face (25% the distance between hunter and target) which disappears in melee.
50 Points in Survival
: Each footfall creates a tiny, flat glowing spot on the ground that shrinks to nothingness within about a second.
Mage
Passive
: Instead of running, they hover, but doesn't work when walking or standing. Subtle blue glow added to eyes.
In Combat
: Eyes shine much brighter. Tiny twinkling specs raise from the ground and hover around legs when casting.
50 Points in Arcane
: Subtle purple aura. Coils of arcane energy rise from the ground around the mage's feet when standing still.
50 Points in Fire
: Fiery ember-like eyes. 3 burning spheres hover around the mage's shoulders similar to Kael's green orbs.
50 Points in Frost
: Cold cloudy aura rises mist-like around the mage. Tiny snowflakes trail behind when running (or hovering, for that matter).
Paladin
Passive
: Glowing blue-white eyes and an extremely pale holy aura.
In Combat
: Eyes shine much brighter and whiter.
50 Points in Holy
: Halo above head.
50 Points in Protection
: Intensified holy aura.
50 Points in Retribution
: Shape of aura changes from a close-fitting glow to thin, slowly rising whisps of pale holy energy.
Priest
Passive
: Glowing blue-white eyes.
In Combat
: Eyes shine much brighter and whiter.
50 Points in Discipline
: Somewhat strong holy aura.
50 Points in Holy
: Halo above head. Extremely pale holy aura.
50 Points in Shadow
: Whispy, smokey shadows swirl upwards in a moderately wide radius around the priest's feet when standing still. Critters run away when near.
Rogue
Passive
: Misty red vapour rises from the ground around the rogue when standing still. Nearby critters will run.
In Combat
: Blood spatters are randomly created on the ground when the rogue lands attacks.
50 Points in Assassination
: Red glowing eyes animated like fire, but in slow motion.
50 Points in Combat
: Tracers on arms when swinging weapons.
50 Points in Subtlety
: Black shadowy aura that, from an onlooker's point of view, dissipates into tiny whisps of smoke when the rogue enters stealth.
Shaman
Passive
: If left standing for long enough, the shaman gains a ghostly, spiritual aura and will eventually become entirely ghost-like. Moving will negate the effect.
In Combat
: Ghost-like tracers around arms/torso while swinging a weapon or casting.
50 Points in Elemental
: Electric energy escapes from random points on the shaman's body.
50 Points in Enhancement
: Various (small) spirit animals will occasionally fade into view, following the shaman around a bit before fading away.
50 Points in Restoration
: Gains a blue vapour-like aura.
Warlock
Passive
: Green eyes like a blood elf, but more luminous. Critters will not go near.
In Combat
: Strange shadows (sometimes of faces) dance around the floor/walls around the warlock while casting.
50 Points in Affliction
: Blight is created anywhere the warlock walks, more intense the longer he stays. Tiny bats randomly form from blight and flutter just behind the warlock's head and shoulders for a short time.
50 Points in Demonology
: Warlock gains twisted demon horns, a devil tail, and bat-like wings.
50 Points in Destruction
: Shoulders and upper arms are perpetually on fire.
Warrior
Passive
: Extra heavy footfalls which leave cracks or footprints in the ground they walk on. Critters will run when near a moving warrior.
In Combat
: Each blow landed on an enemy creates a small effect to make the attack appear more destructive (e.g. sparks when fighting mechanical units).
50 Points in Arms
: Subtle aura around arms resembling air vibration. Armour occasionally twinkles.
50 Points in Fury
: Whispy red aura rises off the warrior's body.
50 Points in Protection
: Each time the warrior takes damage, his eyes glow red.

Very good idea!
Another thought: What happens if a Frost and Fire Mage stand together? Will the frost melt away, of will the flames of the Fire Mage go out? So generally speaking: it would be nice if characters could influence eachother. My main is DK, which would result in for example all nature dying when I walk by, but when a druid came by, that wouldn't happen.

A fantastic idea. Post it on the officials?
If someone else wants to, I can't. Lifetime ban. (Rant incoming)
Right before WotLK was announced there was the standard barrage of people attempting to post spoilers on the forums. So me, thinking I'm oh-so-funny, posts an obviously fake expansion (It's called Lich King of the Emerald Maelstrom, level cap increased to 81 2/3, new AH mounts only useable inside the AH!) and other nonsense. Unfortunately it was right when Blizzard decided to crack down on any "spoilers" so I get a lifetime ban.
I think that's a tad extreme in my case so I email them at the email they give me to contact with questions/concerns. I get an email back telling me to not actually email that address, and they give me a different one. I try that three times. No response. I call twice. First time on hold for an hour and I have to hang up because I have to take care of other things. Second time on hold for about 40 min then suddenly disconnected. So I say heck with it and give up.
Yeah, I have a strong opinion about dealing with Blizzard directly.
It might cause a problem with the increased strain on computers. Places like Dal would be an absolute overload.
Yeah, especially some of the ideas, which would make being able to turn them off (like you can with DK voices) essential. Ah well, not going to happen anyway :P

I like it.
For warlocks
Demonology- Would have some demonic features, maybe vestigial wings
Destruction- their hands would glow with a subtle green flame
Affliction- any plants or critters around them die slowly.
Or, when they run, or walk, everything behind them dies off. Like a "path of decay"
