As for the longevity vs throughput argument:
There is no reason to have two different gear sets. All you need is
Idol of Flaring Growth
for normal fights and if you know you will most probably get into mana trouble you can swap it out for
Idol of Awakening
. Yes, the 234 lost SP do hurt but with the duck there will be no mana issues whatsoever, this single item swap turns a full throughput set into the perfect longevity set.
As for ToGC10: My guild runs it with 3 healers (except for Anub) and it's working just fine for us. We basically have Tribute of Insanity on farm now (got it several weeks in a row) and are going for our first Tribute of Dedicated Insanity attempt next week. For that one we will also take 3 healers for sure ;)
I fail to see the point in having only two. Even when sufficiently geared - why risk it?

I guess to each their own, but from everything I've seen, with competant players, 3 is too many. Whatever floats your boat.
Btw, by bringing another DPS, it would save more time due to the fact that you are increasing your 'killing' speed by another 5-8k DPS. You will shave off 16% of the time needed to run it, if everyone is in proper gear.
Yes, in a perfect run you will save time by going with only two heals. But as has been said previously ... imagine a healer disconnect or simply a screwup - healer didn't pay attention and forget to move out of the fire for a second or two. Having a third healer in such a situation will save the cloak and mount.
I think the small decrease in time needed to clear the instance doesn't justify the risk of losing cloak and mount, at least not if at least one person in the group still needs them.
But to each their own ;) Running with two healers is of course also completely viable. But so is running with 3 healers.
Telling people that they have too many healers if they run with 3 on the other hand is the wrong thing to do imo. Just because you can run it with 2 (if both are extremely well geared and if both know the instance extremely well) doesn't mean you have to.
