I know that most people who play this game are not super thieving a holes.
Well last night I had the mats to make 2 items my chr needed. Now I am talking about 4k+ mats.
I was going to ask on trade for someone to see if anyone could make the things.
1) I am worried about handing 4k of items in trade and hoping I get it or an item back.
2) How much is average tip for doing work?
3) if the person just says thanks and logs do I have any recourse on this type of thing?
thank you for any info I have never done this before.

I had someone ninja my mats about 2 years ago and the mats were restored very quickly after I opened a ticket. I also sent a note to the GM of the guild the ninja was in, and he (the GM) apologized and told me he would deal with the offending player.
As far a tip goes, it depends on how rare the pattern is. For the new tailoring patterns, I get anywhere between 50 and 100g. For Ulduar, 25-50. Other stuff, like 10g. If you are dropping 4k in mats, I would tip the guy 100g.

There's no point in screenshotting anything, unless you plan to post it on your realm forums.
Blizzard neither needs nor accepts screenshots as evidence.

Here are my tips for getting high end crafts done:
1 - If at all possible, get a friend or guildie to do it for you. Then you are pretty much guaranteed to have no problems.
as for the tip, i would say it depends on how hard to get, or rare, the recipe is. i'm willing to tip someone more if it takes me forever to find someone that actually has the recipe. however, if you put in trade "LF BS to make X" and you get 8 people responding, then obviously it wasn't too hard to get that recipe.
whenever i can't find a guildie to make something, i typically tip 10-50g.

Depending on your realms size, peoples personal reputation can be quite important. The ammount of alliance on my realm is really low, so if anyone does anything bad, the news spread fast.
A low population also has another advantage...
I ask 500G for a LW craft, and people pay <3
(thats for ToC recipes. Ulduar ones go for 200)

I beg to differ. Recently my account was hacked, and i was able to get it restored. But after the restore happened, one of my characters just disappeared.
When i talked to a GM, they told me that my account was hacked and my character deleted right before i had merged it with my battle.net account and assigned a authenticator.
I was informed that most characters below lvl 60 did not hold priority when considering restorations, but that i would be given priority if i could prove that the character existed.
So rather then sending the ticket in game, i sent the ticket by email(wowgm@blizzard.com) and included a screen shot of my character. I had my character back 12 minutes after i sent the email. According to the blizzard representative that i talked to by phone, most restorations take several hours. So screen shots are useful.
If this were used in the context of the above poster, you could send your ticket by email and include the picture. That way they would be able to see your evidence. No offense, but making stuff up doesn't make you right.
