I wouldn't call it 'just plain dumb', but it's not as good as vengeance/corruption. So I also wouldn't say he's 'a damn good tank' if he doesn't bother to research that kind of thing before advocating it.

skill-wise, he rapes every other pug tank ive been with
Pugs are full of people who don't know what they're doing. Just because someone can hold aggro and live though a healer dying to fire doesn't mean they're particularly skilled or knowledgeable. It could just mean he's geared up the ass.
I've single-button mashed the top of the DPS charts as the tank in H:OK before because the rest of the group was stupid and/or undergeared and I was way overgeared for it. It doesn't mean I'm skilled, it just means I copy-pasted a 96969 macro from the forums.

he was relatively well geared
not amazingly geared, but well-enough to be a badass tank
sigh.

kragathore, how do you measure skill?
I'm assuming he has alot of HP, doesnt take much damage and holds threat. Which means he is a badass tank, or am i wrong here?
Secondly using SoC in heroics is just fine. 90% of the time you're killing trash which is usually more than one mob. Even though i'm fairly sure SoV would be better here as well (love HotR).
The only thing wrong with him using SoC is the fact that he's wasting talent points.
And lets remember this is heroics. I usually run with SoW just so i wont get mana starved straight away.

skill=not dying + not letting me die + not requiring the healer to go oom
hes very good at that
So he's a tank in other words.
Not dying = he has good gear, this is not skill
Not letting you die = he has good gear, this is not skill***
Not requiring the healer to go oom = he has good gear, this is not skill
***FYI this is the healers job
The fact that he has specced SoC and uses it regularly proves that he is not "skilled".
It's partially viable during trash but honestly i think SoV would still be better thanks to HotR applying the dot.

This is the minimum for not being horrible, not being skilled.

This is just me, but I'm not the best tank in the world (gear wise anyway I think i understand tanking pretty well) but I use SoC, mainly because it keeps aggro for me, but I always switch to Vengeance when fighting a boss.
So all in all, i say its ok for beginner tanks (like me) who need more damage on enemies to keep threat, but later switch to vengeance.
