Hi all,
I got bored of healing on my pally (70) so I decided to start up a shadow priest for a few reasons;
- Dealing damage
- Raid/Party VE/VT health/mana returns
- CC ect..
I just hit 60 and have been struggling to find a party that will actually take me as shadow, they all want me to heal or GTFO. I don't really understand why though, I can out dps and out damage everyone up to two to three levels higher than I am without any effort at all.
I didn't roll a priest to heal (as funny as that sounds)..
Was it a mistake to think people actually want/need shadow priests? Does anyone have any advice for getting into instances as shadow?
Cheers
rofl@this thread in general
Delily is currently the only one worth paying a lick of attn to.
nice job priests! great advice!
/thumbs down
Dini: heres the thing about Spriests, they are ment to add backup to almost every aspect of a raid, fort buffs, constant healing, mana returns ect. most people dont even think about these things untill 70 tbh when the most number crunching and all around efficency is really needed. being a shadowpreist is really one of the easiest ways to find out if your group really knows what they are doing! if you're in a good guild, grouping should be no problem. they should easily tell that you are going to out dps most classes and provide other hugely valuable things to the group , expecally in terms of helping the healer! (remember the healer and tank should be the ones you want to make good with, not the other dps, who cares what they think right? =) ) if the healer has any say in what happens with the run then you should deff have no problem geting in.
my advice pre-70: compile a list of great healers who understand what a shadowpreist is ment to do and it will make it so much easier on the both of you, you can dps-heal and it lightens the healers load in the instance.
Melting Faces and Easy Mode for the healer = Win!
woot woot to that all around imo.

funny, but delily is wrong too.
Shadowpriests should never have to pop out and heal unless in an emergency.
What? Vampiric Touch? It's useful, but for the most part, classes that use mana have better ways to regen mana.
wtf? -any- almost any mana dependant class will tell you they would LOVE to have a shadowpriest in a raid group with them. who wouldnt want an extra 250 mp5? oh wait, your a lock that just lifetaps for mana, ok so then dont be in the grp with the SP.
Have you been on a raid? The Shadow line is decent damage, but mages and warlocks, the other cloth wearing casters can out damage a priest. In PvP, the entire line is Shadow, so if you get locked, you're screwed.
Im sorry, but with t5 geared mages and locks only compete with me in DPS on raids, but i bring alot of utility by giving mages the mana to continue dps'ing while i go oom, so the numbers would be a little more one sided if i had unlimited mana myself right? you are an idiot. a correctly played shadowpriest will dominate a dps meter (top 5)
All in all there delily, you are wrong. The most utilized spec for priests is shadow because they provide high end dps and provide much utility to any caster that is in need in a raid. Go read about the t6 farm guilds, most have 1 or 2 shadowpriests feeding more dps mana to increase total raid dps. before you say another thing in a priest forum, you better know how the &*!@ a priest works, because you just showed your ass.

First let me start by saying I enjoy playing a Shadow Priest. Currently sitting just shy of 1200 Shadow damage. Currently my guild is @ 4/5 SSC and 3/4 The Eye and making great progress. Here's my view on the whole Shadow Priest conundrum.
1) We will NEVER be on the top of the DPS charts in 10/25 man raids but "can" be in the top 10 in a 25 and 3-4 in a 10 man. See for yourself.

2) We bring more to the table than pure DPS. Misery = 5% Extra spell damage, Shadow Weaving = 15% extra Shadow Damage, Vampiric Touch = 5% mana regen based on your DPS @ 750dps = 187.5mp5! Sure we have Fort buff but very rarely will we be raiding without a holy priest. Maybe 10 mans with 2 pally and a druid. Thank a shadow priest for 20% of all the warlock's damage.
3) You will generally only see 1 Spriest in a 10 man, 2 MAYBE 3 for a 25 man. We just don't bring anything extra to the raid with more than a few shadow priests. More mages = more CC, more Warlocks = more DPS, more Pallys = more buffs. 1 SPriest in the DPS group, 1 in the Healer group, 1 in the second healer group if there is one.
4) Build up a decent healing set as you progress through the game. Never roll against anyone that is a primary healer but if something that drops in an instance is going to be sharded anyways or just grabbed for vendor trash ask if you can have it for an offset. My heaing off-set is at about ~1550 including 4-5 drops from Kara. Without respeccing I can heal many heroics. Comes in very handy when pure healers in the guild aren't online.
5) Stop all the QQ. There is no right way or wrong way to play the game. It's your $15 a month, play how you want. After all it's a GAME! If others are bitching about your spec tell them to either send you $15 to play your character the way they want you to play it or STFU.

Saying shadow priests are useless and should heal is like saying protection paladins can't tank and should heal. HUGELY underestimated, yet absolutely brilliant if played right.
