The escalation thing is just dumb if they pulled a firearm on you they already escalated it all the way without you being dead.
Uhh... no. If a robber thinks you have a gun, he's going to shoot you before you can draw it. When more people have guns, the robbers are going to be more and more paranoid. Let me tell you, a robber isn't going to wait until he sees you draw your gun before he shoots you.
People who are afraid of being defenseless are almost as bad as the robbers themselves though. I knew one guy who kept three guns on him at all times, and was always ready to draw his weapon and shoot someone if he fely threatened. He even brought his guns with him when he went to his kid's elementary school. People like that are just trouble because tension situations are much more likely to explode. I'd rather double than a couple kids get shot because someone tried to be a hero.

How could the police identify the difference between someone who legally carries a gun and someone who illegally carries the gun?
Same way they do now?
How would that work?
They stop and ask every single person with a gun to show their license(s)?
Through records showing you bought the gun. And i believe there is a system, where they look at the serial code on the gun, and run it through a system of legally purchased weapons. If the number doesn't show up, then it is illegal. or if the serial number is scratched out, then it is presumed to be illegal.

Unless you officially register your gun. The longest they can keep a purchase record is 4-6 months depending on the state. Although they can go through the actual gun manufacturer and match ballistics from the test fire each gun has taken and saved. Then match serial number and pull any records they may still have for marketing purposes. But ballistics are hard to match perfectly then can narrow it down a ton.
I did not know that, thanks for the info!
(well except for the ballistics part...)

Why do people fight so hard for more gun control laws. Why not enforce the ones we got. Almost every single gun related incident that I can think of was for 1 of 2 reasons. Either reason one they were not following current laws such as illegal sales or they were not properly stored and were accessible to other people than owner ect ect.
Reason two clear lack of knowledge or ability to safely handle a gun. People dont understand stupid things like dont point at anything unless you intend to shoot. And other basic common sense things.
Most recent example from my local news kid finds gun takes to party just joking points at friend friend and pulls trigger friend dies. Sad but if current safe storage and gun chamber and trigger locks had been in place which is the law. Or ammo stored seperate. Or if the child had basic gun knowledge.
This would have been pretty much completely impossible to happen
. Child that young would have learned from class to not pick up gun if he ignored that(which wouldnt be a problem if it was in safe). He would have learned to not point at anything he doesnt want to shoot. And thirdly he would have learned to immeditely check if loaded and on safe with bolt locked back to the rear. If all these failed which is unlikely with bolt and trigger locks on gun it would have been is immpossible to load anything into it. Let alone pull the trigger. And there would have been no ammo to load into it anyway.
See how if people would just follow the current laws and have a little bit of gun education. How impossible that would have been
And why are conservatives always so liberal with the word assault rifle I saw a bolt action single shot rifle referred to as a assault rifle the other day and it made me chuckle.
Guess what? If there was no gun in first place it would have been impossible to happen.

Good luck getting rid of guns...
However much i wish it would happen, i believe its not possible...

Gun control in itself is by no means stupid. It's a necessity. I'm pro-guns, a gun owner and a shooter. Just to break the usual stereotype, I'm also college educated, mostly left wing-ish and female. I do support gun control, but only for as long as it is kept reasonable. Namely, I do not think our Constitution says that we should be selling guns to convicted felons or mentally ill, nor am I too upset about mandatory background checks, waiting periods and bans on automatic assault weapons. Show me somebody who needs an AK-47 to protect their house and I'll show you one &*!@ poor marksman.
However, knee-jerk, obsessive and oppressive gun control forced upon responsible gun owners is rarely reasonable, and results in a headache for educated gun owners while doing little to deter potential criminals. No wonder many claim this form of gun control is really just a way to severely limit access to guns. My home state of California is a shining example of a state with "run away" gun laws complexity of which rivals that of our tax code. If you ever wondered why those "paranoid nut-jobs" are so worked up about the issue, take a gander:
Our gun-savvy legislation nearly forced mandatory child locks that broke the most important rule of basic gun safety.
We now have mandatory magazine disconnect safety devices that have a.. ahem... minor design flaw. It is still possible to fire with this "fail-safe" device.
For legal purposes our guns are "loaded" if our magazines are.
Just about any of our DOJ-approved, CA-purchased guns can become an illegal assault weapon. Usually it is done by modifying definition of what constitutes an "assault weapon". This is why so many shooters oppose assault weapons ban; it's not because we want to shoot our BFGs at whales on a beach.
Going anywhere with a gun has its very own chapter in "How To Own A Gun & Stay Out of Jail," California Edition. The book itself is must have for every CA gun owner. I keep mine under my pillow.
This is just a tip of the iceberg. I think any responsible and educated CA gun owner does live in fear - in fear of accidentally breaking some obscure gun law and ending up a felon. Did you know that you cannot stop at a corner store or a gas station on your way home from a shooting range? Welcome to California.
I understand the intent of some of these laws, but if you want to know how I feel, imagine a politician that doesn't know how to drive. He doesn't use cars or know anything about them from personal experience. He's seen some in Hollywood movies, they go very fast, knock over fruit stands and pedestrians, collide, and explode. They are driven by ruffians in dark shades. He's also heard reports of major car accidents on the radio. He's convinced that cars are Dangerous Things. Would you feel comfortable having this politician be in charge of traffic laws? Do you think he's qualified? Unfortunately, this is about who passes our gun laws. They've seen guns on TV. They saw Moore's Bowling for Columbine "documentary" and swallowed it whole, much like Limbaugh's audience swallows whatever dribble he throws their way. They asked a few experts with ties to special interests. Now we can only buy ammo in person with ID and a thumb print. What on earth makes them believe criminals don't have thumbs?
And lastly, on subject of fear and paranoia. There are plenty on both sides. What do you think drives people who never seen a real gun to come out in droves and demand that guns should be banned wholesale?

I cant understand why anyone would like to have a gun, are you crazy? The only place you actuly need a gun is in countries where they allow it.

It's personal. Some people do like to have guns for self-defense. They are correct in claiming that the police won't be of much help to them personally if they are being murdered in their own home, with or without a gun. They'll do their best, but too often they are simply too late.
Some people enjoy various shooting disciplines as a sport. I belong to this group and, unless circumstances absolutely force me to, never intend to shoot at anything other than a piece of paper with black circles on it.
Some people collect guns like other people collect post stamps or Hollywood memorabilia.
Some people are history buffs and enjoy collecting guns from whatever history period interests them.
Some people hunt.
Some people like to put guns on their walls for that "hunter lodge" feel.
Lots of people fall into multiple groups. Dismissing all of us as "crazy" smacks of that unhealthy paranoia I already mentioned.

hmmmm lets see
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=homemade+guns&aq=0&oq=homemade+gun&aqi=g10
a google search pulls up 303,000 results on how to make your own gun
a friend of mine who is a machinist says that he could make an accurate safe-to-fire gun in about a days worth of work
oh and lets not forget, banning guns worked so well for stopping crime in britain, oh wait whats that there's still violent crime
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/glasgow_and_west/4788881.stm
, oh what now their banning swords.
the moral of this is even if guns are banned and every gun is actually taken there will still be crime and there will still be people trying to kill each other, guns might make it easier to kill someone else but blaming a gun for killing someone is like blaming a pencil for mispellings.
the moral of the moral is that unless and untill mankind changes banning guns is not going to stop violence.
