Also, this is a thread talking about the physics, specifically the big bang and related theories, I don't want this to turn into a debate on whether the big band occurred, if you disagree with it, make a different thread called something like 'did the big bang occur' and we can debate it then.
I see no reason to cease debate on whether the big bang occurred, as long as we restrict it to the philosophical or physical (i.e., no religion).

yes, but at the moment it's a religious debate.
if one person comes up with a legitimate theory that disputes the big bang that is not related to religion, I will gladly debate it with them. From everything I've heard, the young earth theory is not really legitimate.
Not one person has said they believe in the young earth theory. It came up because someone attached that to Catholicism arbitrarily.
And Skyfire, I'm still waiting ;)

A theory about the big bang i heard about earlier today stated that there are parallel universes, and that Big Bangs are what happens when 2 universes collide. Sorta like shaking up an Etch- A - Sketch, only on a way more epic scale.
That would mean that these "universes" exist in space. Then you're using a different concept of universe than we are (or at least I am)--universes
are
space. I would just say that the space in which your "universes" exist is the actual Universe.
And also in that model:
big bang -> universe
universe -> big bang
So what came first, the chicken or the egg?

Commonly referred to as the multiverse. However, we don't really know what ruleset applies to the multiverse, so its hard to really say what would or wouldn't make sense in terms of the multiverse.
Idk, its a pretty new theory according to the documentary i was watching. Just throwing an idea out there.
I know what you're talking about. That documentary is at least a couple years old. Talking about string theory, M-theory, and some other stuff, its pretty crazy.

At this point it's just a semantics game, deciding what to call
it
.

even less relevant, though I don't blame you.
Correcting false statements is irrelevant?
There go 90% of my posts out the window.

Well, yeah, but when one applies logic, the problem is that outside our own universe, the same rules about time and logic might not apply. Considering that, it might not be proper to ask what created
it
, since perhaps it doesn't follow the same logic that something has to create it for it to exist.

A couple things in here.
1) If these micro-universes are interacting within this macro-universe, then there must be some underlying principle of unity among them. Our universe's "time" is caused by something in the macro-universe's "coding" (for lack of a better term). So each micro-universe may have a different manifestation of that, but it'll still be the same in genus. So we might not be able to say anything particular about Universe B's time, we can still know the universals of it insofar as it is derived from the macro-universe.
2) We may be in our micro-universe, but by that very fact we must also be in the macro-universe. If we can know the micro-universe, why wouldn't we be able to know the macro?
3)....I thought too hard about 1 and 2 that I forgot 3 :P

In an infinite uni/multi-verse, everything must happen. Even God. So all religions are correct at the same time...
No, because by definition God would be outside the uni-/multi-verse.

No, it's still a good thread. Stupid moar homework.
Why do I keep reading these thread titles as Pre-big bang big Tsunami and whenever there's a b and someone saying noob adjacent to each other I see boob?
