No Sold, that's called 'bad writing'; I've always hated characters who do that, since it goes the way of Romeo and Juliet. Those types of characters are pathetic for the most part, and the wangst created from it is eye rolling and groan producing.
Does Kalec even have any personality to begin with though?Lots of it; and for the most part, it goes against what Jaina feels is important; so completely destroying Kalec's character for this stupid idiotic ship, which will probably end up with him dead since that's what happens to all of the people that Jaina loves, is completely utterly and totally not !@#$ing needed.

*spit take*
He had an entire TRILOGY! He was a major focus of an in-game quest chain! He played a large role in multiple other books, and even showed up in his own comic iirc!
YES! YES HE HAS A PERSONALITY!

Yep, some things are doomed to failure, no matter who does the writing. As I said, not even the best writer in the world could take a pile of crap and turn it into gold.
And I've seen golden do the near impossible with this, because on Rise of the Horde, she made Ner'zhul look simpathetic. NER'ZHUL of all people. Something I would had though to be utterly impossible without completely redoing his character and personality.
And she pulled it off, without changing anything important about him, he's still evil, still reprehensible, and yet if you read that book you just can't help it but feel sorry for the guy when he contacts his ancestors and his own mate looks at him with rage in her eyes.
But to go from that, to make a ship as stupid, unwanted, and unnecesary as Kalec and Jaina? no, nobody can work a miracle like that. Not golden, not Knaak, not Grub, nobody can make that thing work.

As for the love triangle plot of ROTLK, that didn't come out of nowhere, it was already established lore that Kael'thas had a crush on Jaina at one point (even though she was underaged apparently, which made him feel ashamed of himself for pedo-lusting after her).WUT? That was never once mentioned outside of Rise of the Lich King; once she put it in there, then it was considered canon, but it didn't exist before that point.
And it's derailment massively for Kalec, especially as Golden herself was setting up the romance between him and Aryi at the end of Twilight of the Aspects. Whether it's because of Blizzard or not, she should have put her foot down in that regards and left them as friends....unless you know, a female can't be friends with a male that doesn't turn into love....

In terms of shipping? Usually not.

My
brain
! Agh! The pain! How could you even say that about Kalec!
I know right? =/
Ahem. Regardless. Was at Barnes&Noble earlier and spotted Tides of War while wandering about aimlessly because I don't go to Book Stores ever. So I was like: 'Ohhey, let's pop it open and read the covers'. So I did.
And might I say that I'm mighty tired of the writers using Go'el when referring to Thrall?
Especially when they haven't decided he's good enough for a name change in game?
I hate it too, and yet, we better get used to it, because it seems as if that's gonna be his official name from now on. =( Almost nothing remains of the brave and awesome orc that drew me into the horde in the first place. They took away his name, his armor (replaced by rags), his manpride, and his freedom(Again) and replaced it with a crappy new name, a crappy bunch of rags that make him look like a hobo, a whiny neurotic personality that is 1 bad day away from a nervious meltdown, and hooked him chain and ball to that brown monstrosity.
Unfortunately I didn't think until on the way home to have checked for some confirmation on those spoilers so I really have nothing else to add. Sorry!
AHHHHHHH why must you torture me like this woman? And here I was hoping you'd tell me that all of those spoilers (or at least some of them) were fake.

So was reading the interview with Golden from a day or two ago, and apparently in the book, there is a reference to the group of adventures who's helping Jaina during the scenario...there isn't a clear description of the 5 but it's fairly obvious it's meant to be the players. You know that is going to cause more uproar....

why? I say its about damn time we get some protagonism on this game. Its the one thing I've felt SWTOR and GW2 did better than wow, in those games we're not nameless adventurers, we're the central protagonic focus of the story.
Its getting very old that we bust our lumps to kill Illidan, The Lich King, and Deathwing, only to have Maiev, Tirion, Thrall&The Aspects, suck up all the glory.
Edit: Strange. Opera doesn't recognizes "Protagonism" as a word. Is it not?

Ugh.
No.No.No.No. NO!
I don't want to be some sort of focal point.
No thank you. It was the main problem I had with a good portion of Cata. Sylvannas praising me as the single reason she won the Gilnean war was annoying as all hell, personnally.
Also,
we
didn't kill Illidan, LK, or Deathwing. The only reason we were in there was for gameplay reasons and to see the story. We represent the forces and massive armies of the factions who actually did that.
And now Blizzard is trying to make it so that it is actually us? NTY.... v.v

meh, call it different set of priorities then. I Don't like being a Ageless-Faceless-Gender-Neutral-Culturally-Ambiguous-Adventure-Person. (Also known as AFGNCAAP). Its a standard practice for a lot of games, but I don't really like it.

yes yes, we know the effects of a mana bomb already, we saw plenty of them in the outland campaign. This one is powered by the Focusing Iris, so its basically what we saw in outland multiplied by 10.
Sorta like how if you put a uranium core on a simple TNT casing, you increase its destructive potential by 100 at least.
Also, for those who still say Dalaran will go alliance: (Warning, more spoilers below, as with the others, these are unconfirmed, but they came from the same source, take them with MASSIVE doses of salt................ a tinfoil hat and 7 shots of vodka are optional)
It has come to my attention that the blood elves who aided garrosh on his shenanigans were NOT sunreavers. In fact, in order for Jaina to be elected as the new leader of Dalaran, she needed the votes of the current living members of the council of six, INCLUDING Aethas Sunreaver. It would be a very dìck move of her to evict him and the other sunreavers from dalaran after he helped her secure her position. Specially since any decision made by the council isn't done by majority of votes, but by unanimous vote. If even one member says no, then the motion is denied. See? not everyone is on Garrosh's side on this, in fact, Baine and Vol'jin are almost officially hostages in their own cities, since garrosh places his personal guards (now made of blackrock orcs) to "protect them"
On top of that, it also seems like the Blackrock Orcs rejoin the horde, yep, garrosh grants them a pardon, and they officially rejoin, as well as some Dark Shaman from the Twilight Hammer.
Sold, again, it seems like I owe you an apology. Maybe garrosh IS involved on what's happening in the revamped RFC (or not, its still too soon to tell, but this new evidence is certainly on your favor)

So, just realized, after some of the info from Tides of Wars has made the rounds...I did it again, like I did for Undead Onyxia; the Blackrock rejoining the Horde at Garrosh's behest.....okay to be fair in Azeroth 20 Years Later, it was Rend who took over as the Evil Warchief, but after his fall, the new good Warchief did accept the survivors of the last battle into the new Orc nation.

I'd also like to notice the very particular wording of an NPC on the re-revamped RFC (Funny how that place has been in 3 incarnations and still has the same login screen, no respect of the classics it seems)
There's 2 major NPCs in the horde version of that place. One of them seems like an honorable orc, Commander Bagran. The other is a warlock called Invoker Zorenth.
Zorenth says something kinda odd. Maybe its just me nit-picking at words, but whereas Bagran is more concerned to save his troops, and eliminate the elementals unleashed by the dark shaman, the warlock instead wants to contain and put a lid on the situtation to prevent others from finding out.
Of particular note is what he says when you finish the quest he gives you (Where you kill dark shaman and take their insignias):
This is the opening text of the quest:
"he power of these Dark Shaman has attracted many allies, <name>.
Former members of the Horde
that now work towards some dark purpose.
We need to make an example of them before we have another twilight's hammer on our hands.
Kill any cultist you come across and bring me their insignia."
And this is what he says at the end.
"
Good work, <name>. This will make it very clear how Garrosh is going to deal with
failures
...
"
I dunno, maybe I'm just seeing things but wouldnt "this is how Garrosh is going to deal with
traitors
" seem more fitting? I mean if these guys are no longer part of the horde, how exactly did they "failed" garrosh? Maybe Garrosh considers them failures because of their lack of discretion, and that they weren't able to control the fel dire orc they created.
Again, subjective evidence, open to interpretation, but I still consider the wording funny.

Probably a little of both; the 'new' Kor'Kron can give the Thought Police a run for their money after all, so entirely possible the Invoker is a member of them trying to get rid of some crazies.
Yes, apparently my pre-order of Tides of War still went through somehow, so since I'm almost finished it, I'll update the Expanded Universe thread with a review....but well, don't think many are going to like it that much.....
