How long was Malfurion lost in the Emerald Dream? I thought it was at least 2K years but a friend is saying it was only a couple hundred at best. Thanks!

Mal was trapped by the Nightmare for 2 years. He slept often before then, same as the other druids, so he was awake every few hundred years, which is why Tyrande had such an acid wit against him.

given that he was present on Warcraft 3 and that happened relatively recently ( Roughly 10 years ago) then no, neither 2k years, nor a couple hundred.
By the time Vanilla wow began (4 years after War 3) he was already missing. He came back about a year before cata, so that places him in the dream, lost, for like 4 to 5 years.
if you are asking about the first mass hibernation that the druids took at the end of the War of the Ancients, then as Adamsm said, they slept for over 10k years, but not in a row, they woke up every 500 years or so, then go back to the dream after a bit.

Considering all of Cata happens after Wolfheart.....the writer has a point about Mal.

Well, for players who haven't read wolfheart (your average new player will not most likely), you'll think malfurion is as neutral as one can be. But for those of us who have read wolfheart, it's made clear that that's entirely untrue. Although, that just shows that blizzard really needs to start showing (or explaining) what happens in their novels, in the actual game.
Actually it's not Sold; Mal works for the good of the Cenarion Circle before the good of the Alliance: As seen all across Hyjal, he does his work for the Circle, which includes working with the Horde as needed. In Wolfheart, he was supporting Tyrande who was the force behind the attempt to get the Gilneans into the Alliance again.

And supported their fight agaisnt the horde in ashenvale. He simply understands the alliance can handle it now and he can deal with more important matters, aka hyjal. It was pretty clear to me in wolfheart that malfurion cared about the fact that the horde was attacking his people, and didn't object to the alliance going out to stop their invasion.Which goes back to his neutral stance in regard to both factions: He won't join a battle when it's them fighting, but if it's a third force: Druids of the Flame, Twilight, etc etc etc he will add himself to the battle and fight on the side of good.
Also, the fact that he was trying so hard to get the worgen into the alliance and wanted to unite the alliance shows he does care about the alliance.Or....as said in the book, Mal blames himself for what happened to the Gilneans and saw getting them into a group that will look after them as one step of him making it up to them.
And the fact that his wife is 100% alliance makes it kinda hard to call him pure neutral, he can't be pure neutral and married to someone on one of the two opposing factions.Of course he can; he has his views, his wife has her's, but he still loves her. Look back up to see how he remains neutral in the faction wars.

Um...no, that's not.
That's just a finalist.

well, I've finally returned to the game, and with it, I also completed the new 5mans, and the new raid.
I gotta say I'm quite satisfied with the way this expansion ended, and loved every single one of the new dungeons.
MILES BETTER than ZA/ZG whom I've come to loathe in nearly inhuman ways.
but adamsm I never saw that part you said..... about all the shamans featured in the vashj'ir zone getting killed. I never saw that happening neither on the dungeons nor the raid.

Like I said Rank, they get picked up by those tentacles and flung off to their death: They don't show up again after Hour.

after more deliberate research, you exagerated a bit :P you said that ALL the shamans you meet on vashj (and that later show up in deepholm, and twilight highlands) die.
Turns out only 4 of them do.
Though I will admit it was a cheap way to kill them,
specially since it happened in such a way that unless you were really paying attetion, you don't even realize they got offed.

none are more important than the others, we meet SEVERAL shamans, of varying degrees of importance, and a lot of the important ones survived.
Goldmine survived, as did Mylra, nobundo, muln, gavan, norsala, and a very large ect.
In fact, of the ones that died, most of them were very unimportant. Hargoth Dimblaze played no role on vashj'ir and was just a background character on deepholm, and only acompanied us once on twilight highlands.
Jalara was the same, only being a background character on deepholm, not showing up in vashj, and only accompanying us on one quest in TH.
Tawn was also just a background character on deepholm, dind't show up at all on vashj, and we never either took quests from her, nor did we acompanied her on some venture.
The only important shaman that died on the way to the temple was Torunscar, as he's the main "protagonist" so to speak of the earthen ring on Deepholm along with Maruut. He also dispatches several important quests on deepholm and TH.
But most of the important shamans (the ones we tend to remember due to their antics, or role in the game) survived.
To me, the most important members introduced on cata were Mylra and Goldmine, who are by a long shot the easiest ones to remember due to their personalities.
I did liked Jalara though, she had some awesome funny commentaries on the ongoing rivalry between druids and shamans.

Alright...the 'important' ones I remember, and some of the people over on wowinsider agree as well; if Blizzard wanted to kill off characters, they should have just had a group of faceless throw away ones in there, rather then characters I liked lol.
And I wasn't expecting any of the top level Earthen Ring members to perish.

agreed, the way they died felt quite cheap, but I'm still not convinced on their importance, other than torunscar, the other ones who died were fairly minor members

heh, I like the little touches blizz added to the new 5mans xD. Aproach Illidan with both warglaives of azzinoth and he says: "You seem......... prepared"
also, illidan's EXTREMELY HAMMY performance aside, I found most of the voice-acting on well of eternity to be TOP NOTCH, really digged the way Azshara's actress performed her role, as well as Mannoroth, and despite her new goofy accent, Tyrande as well.
