well, I finnaly got the Shaman Manga yesterday and........
Kettara dies /facepalm. GREAT JOB BLIZZARD, you finnaly introduce a fantastic female orc character with a perky personality, a cheerful attitude, a badass name, and the cutest face an orc could wish for and you just kill her. SCREW YOU!!!! this is Aeris (from The shattering, not "the other" Aeris) all over again. Is like they refuse to introduce good female characters AND LET THEM LIVE!!!
ok ok, rant over.

Rank, that's not a spoiler; I put that she dies in my Manga review thread.

well, I put that on a spoiler tag because just as I didn't knew that, others may not know it, and it really comes as a crushing blow that will wither your soul when you see it happen.
=( I really liked her, and was hoping to see her in-game at some point.

Yep, it's too bad we don't have more good female orc characters... :\

there's only Garona (who has her own baggage) Aggra (whom I loathe with all my will) and that badass maghar woman in feralas that sadly never shows up again anywhere else.
we need more female leading characters.
We're stuck with a physcho undead elf she-witch, and a former badass that was demoted to cheerleader/nanny.

I really want Maiev to come back as some sort of military/tactical advisor. Or be involved somehow with the inevitable Azshara expansion. :(

But on the Alliance side or Queen Giant bewbs side?

I doubt she'd side with Azshara, like ever. I'd just like to see Maiev beyond her obsession with Illidan.

Eh, is anyone really surprised at the lack of strong female characters that are actually interesting? It's one of the biggest failures of the video game industry, and not just Blizzard.Portal ftw.

More disappointed.

Worst part is, by having a strong female presence in game (Refuge Pointe is pretty much womantacular), they give us the illusion that, well, they can give us strong female characters. Then they go and pull that $%^&.
Shameful, if only because it happens so often. It's bordering on Women in Refrigerators levels here.
They probably would be if WoW had refridgerators.

hey on Mass Effect the protagonist can be female, and it's a generally agreed consensus that Female Shepard is WAY more badass than Male shepard (mostly because she's voiced by Jennifer Hale) but still.
the thing that upsets me is that wow HAS several good female characters, that the writers just DONT give a chance at the spotlight.
the good ones have either died, or have been demoted to extras (really, jaina deserved better than that as one of the few original members of the alliance left alive) It pissed me off like you have no idea what they did on that Shaman Manga, because Kettara was a fantastic character and I honest-to-god liked her. I wanted her to have a more prominent presence in wow, and now that wont be posible.
it sucks.

To be fair, there is sort of a somewhat justifiable reason why female characters are quite often killed off. It's similar to how the Final Girl is almost always female; the evil of the villains is just amplified by killing a girl, and it's easier to imagine and be scared for an innocent, helpless female character than it is for a male, because there would probably be a few complaints about 'pansy males'.

There's a reason
Rape Is A Special Kind Of Evil
.
But while I think it's acceptable to have
some
innocent, helpless female characters, I think that more games should have strong female characters who aren't tied to a man. WoW fails
The Bechdel Test
at just about every opportunity. When was the last time you heard Jaina or Sylvanas miss an opportunity to talk about Arthas?

what skree said. One thing is to have SOME females killed off, or be helpless damsels in distress, and another thing entirely to have ALL females fit this role.
Tyrande was an actual battle-comander in Warcraft 3, Jaina was a strong leader, and THE most powerfull mage in azeroth after Antonidas' demise (before knaak inserted his author-avatar and shamelessly stole the title for himself) Maiev was able to make even the best criminals tremble as a fearsome nightelf cop, you kinda see where I'm going.
as of WoW, for a woman to be strong, she'd have to be both crazy, evil, and a complete psychopath (Sylvannas)
