Meryl has never called himself Forsaken though, merely an Undead. The species is Undead, the sub-species is the Forsaken, same as how all of the Elves are split up into their own sub groups: Night, High and Blood.

going by that logic then "Forsaken" is the name of the specie, not the faction. Thus one can be a forsaken, while still giving Sylvannas the middle finger.
correct?
Pretty much,
Trevor
,
Barthalomew
and, more recently,
Redpath
are examples of non-Undercity Forsaken; the first two are former Undercity Forsaken, the last one was resurrected by Sylvanas' Val'kyrs but never joined the Undercity faction.

Eh, Forsaken is not
technically
the term for all free-willed undead, but it's easier to just say "Forsaken" than having to go into a whole sentence explaining that you mean "free-willed undead that used to be Forsaken but have since given up that title." Of course, it ultimately takes more effort when people nit-pick and you end up getting into a multi-post discussion about it, so Your Mileage May Vary.

Or the very few who never joined Sylvanas in the first place.

dude, at this point anything BUT sylvannas would be a welcome adition to the horde.
when blizz was trying to replace thrall they had to devote 2 expantions and several comics plus a book to groom the replacement because thrall is a greatly beloved character (one of the rare exeptions in that he's loved by horde and alliance fans alike, much like malfurion or jaina) thus it's not easy to replace him.
with sylvannas they are making the oposite way. Rather than spend another 2 expantions, comics and books grooming a replacement, they are making us hate her, so that ANYONE who replaces her is a welcome adition.
seriously, with her killing liam, re-deploying the blight against the orders of the horde, using valks to force undeath into others wether they want it or not, her psycopatic streak on EPL, her betrayal to koltira, all all that's between of that, I have a hard time believing that she's gonna remain here by the end of cata.

It's a shame, too. I liked Sylvanas.

I don't think it's going to happen. She absolutely resents being Forsaken by the look of it.

I dunno. Garrosh was portrayed as a menacing oaf that just wanted violence, something a lot of players resented, and yet he became the leader of the Horde.
Also, I do find being mischievous, cunning, and selfish to be qualities of that Sylvanas possesses. Wasn't the Forsaken's initial intention to join the Horde to take advantage of their alliance with the other races, assuming they were inferior in terms of intellect?

I still hate Garrosh, have always hated Malfurion, and absolutely LOVE the new Sylvannas.
She is like a pre-teen girl throwing a tantrum because she didn't get what she wants. Only this little girl is a hot, manipulative undead with a well-trained and ever-increasing ARMY behind he. So far, she is simply decimating everything in her path and as proved in her talks with Garrosh, she isn't anyone's $%^&*.
I still love her one line at the start of Silverpine, dripping with sarcasm, "Isn't it obvious? I serve the Horde..."

When you just can't find the roleplay.
tl;dr version : If you can't find RP, your character sucks and must be a typical Mary-Sue.
Haha, I was thinking something similar myself when reading it. It can't
possibly
be due to the fact that RPers are in the minority on all RP servers and that pretty much all RP is guild based as well. :P Don't get me wrong, the article is right in the angle of fixing your character to fit with RP more, but not in actually helping you find any roleplay.

can anyone tell me what the actually timeline of wow is?
i know vanilla was like 3 years, burning crusade 1-2, and im not sure how long wrath-cataclysm was.
does anyone have the answers? apparently according to a hint from blizzard poster on the official forums the shattering novel covers it, but does anyone know how long much time there was between wrath and cataclysm?
One year per expansion till Cata, when there is a bit of a time skip between the Shattering and the start of it. Only been 10 years since the Battle for Hyjal, according to the main timeline.

I think it's more likely that Wrath took more than one year from beginning to end.

/shrug Again, beyond the fact that both Shaman and the Shattering take place in Year 27, and what the NPC's say, you know there is some type of a time change.
Post by
Skreeran
The Shattering makes no mention of the date, the NPC only says that it's 10 years after Hyjal, and
this article
explains the problem with Shaman's date.
So all we really know is that WoW starts four years after Reign of Chaos, and Catacylsm starts ten years after Reign of Chaos. As far as how many years each expansion was, we just don't know. I find it more likely that Wrath, an expansion in which a long war was fought, had the bulk of the time change, rather than there being 3 years of almost nothing happening after The Shattering.
