HEH it would seem that true names DO exist in wow, but aren't used often.
aparenly warlocks can controll their minions by knowing their true names, once you know the true name of a demon, he or she is yours forever, however to actually speak a true name, you need to have some meassure of power, otherwise the magic embedded on true names can kill you.
the stronger the bearer of the name, the stronger you must be to mention their true name.
this is why warlock minions of whom you dont' know their true names, only obey you for a limited time (like random enslaved demons or doomguards or infernals)
now now, if only someone knew Deathwing's true name (and I don't mean Neltharion) ufff, that someone could use him as a pet :P

I doubt it. Like you said, they'd need to be very powerful, and the only one(s) who has(have) the power to do that, if you ask me, are the old gods.
How does one go about finding true names, anyway? I've never understood the concept.

basically true names are like zodiac signs, like if u're gemini or virgo or that kinda crap.
you don't "choose" your true name, you simply have it the moment you are born, or come into existance, and almost all living beings have one.
only supreme beings know all true names (in wow that would be gods like elune, or titans like eonar) but mortals can obtain true names via trickery or cunning.
for example during the quest-chain given by the NPC "Fallen hero of the horde" you trick a sea-god into giving you the true name of a powerfull demon who is hiding in the blasted lands, you must NOT speak the name, of else it's power will render you apart, but you can fashion a trap with that name and the blood of another god to kill that demon.
I'm asuming warlocks during their initial "binding" ceremony of their first demon, make a bargain for the true name of an imp or sucubus or voidwalker ect......
warlocks have no means to actually trick a legion lord for these things, so like most warlock spells, they bargain, a bit of their life, (and posibly their soul when they die) in exchange for the true name of a lesser demon for them to controll.
this could be the reason why warlocks don't controll the higher ranks of demons like shivarras, or pit lords or dread lords.

:D good to see you back bro'.
as for the behaving.......... well......... some more than others, but otherwise yhea, this section has been (somewhat) flame-free for a while.
you know, it would be a good idea that threads that are over 2 months old get locked, to prevent crappy necromancers from raising them from the dead.

I'd say that it would largely depend on the thread topic. If a discussion has run its course, yeah... but if it has potential to be expanded and discussed further, a lock would only hurt things.

yhea but there are a lot of topics that are buried for a good reason (particulary those revolving varian and the ras) because they devolved from civil discussion to name-calling and flamewars.
eventually those were left forgotten and buried, and should remain that way.
just look what that necromancer did by rezzing a thread that was already quite dead for no good reason, and to add nothing new to it whatsoever.
if the thread is already several months dead, at least from my point of view, it's not worthy to revive, it's best to just start over clean.

Well, the Varian and RAS/Forsaken/Sylvanas threads are all dead horses by now, so I would think they are the exception.
As far as other "dead" threads though, I don't have any problem with them being resurrected so long as the necromancer does it with a decent post that contributes to the discussion, and provides more talking points for the discussion. Also, threads that are essentially duplicate discussions clutter the board. It's much better, in my opinion, to bring an old thread back to life than to create a thread that's essentially identical. (The Future of Anduin Wrynn, for instance, could have been resurrected here rather than a new thread made in the Cataclysm forum.)
And do you just mean the discussion threads? Because I can't see a good reason for locking any of the fan-made stuff (race/class ideas, fan-fics, instances/expansions/etc.).

Aye, locking old threads just because there 'old' is a bad plan. There are quite a few good threads out there that could get a resurrection and not descend into flaming(as long as certain users don't feel the need to continue a flame war).

And do you just mean the discussion threads?
yhea I meant the discussion ones, wich are the only ones that can (and have) brought flames to the board.
so far I have yet to see an RP or fan-fic descend into flames or insults.
so long as the necromancer does it with a decent post that contributes to the discussion
unfortunately that's hardly the case, I've seen a few threads get rezzed by nothing more than people who wanted to reignite flames.
