North-West? The Night Elves and the Draenei surely must have realised.x
That's why Onu the Ancient sends you on a quest to find out about it.

No, the Glaive body is the Northwest 'star point', and possibly the Old One causing the Nightmare.
Woops lol. I got Darkshore and Duskwood confused again(Horde player).

If the Murlocs are rumored to be as ancient as the Trolls then as Tauman said there could be an old god at the bottom of the Maelstrom and somehow the Murlocs are connected to it.
I don't think there's an Old One in the Maelstorm, just because that meant one of the Five was under the Well... which is a really stupid place to seal away a monstrous creature that uses magic to warp beings into other forms... besides, if one was in the Well, why didn't it just use the powers to break free?
Not necessarily... Wells only go down so far, and I'm pretty sure the malestorm is wider than the well was originally. Plus, it is pretty much confirmed that Azshara and co. were made into Naga's by an Old God.

The Well was the size of an ocean in the middle of the continent. The Maelstorm is in the exact same place as the well, it might be a little bigger, but considering how far the continents were moved by the Sundering, and how they were spread out, you get an idea of how much damage was done. Had there been some type of prison in the bottom of the Well, it probably would have been split open by the force all that magic being expanded outwards.
Yes, Azshara and her forces were corrupted by an Old God... but as Yogg was one of the Three... and he was in the Northern prison of Ulduar.... could mean the other two were anywhere to the east.

Are you sure Adam? LoM describes it as a lake.
You know what's weird?
Vash'jr
appears to be either very close to Nazjatar or right where the Maelstrom is supposed to be.
Might be a 'lake' but it's a huge one; an inland sea almost.

Also that map isn't scaled properly.

But there was a map floating around a while ago, showing Azeroth pre-Sundering, and the Well took up a large chunck of the middle..... man, we need some kind of index thing lol.

Well, if you go with Nazjatar's still underwater and Vash'jr's rissen to the surface - kinda.
