I haven't done the 40 man one. How would you guys compare it?
I'm assuming the mechanics are the same, I see she wasn't tauntable before, and I believe tanks had less threat before, so I guess that part was hard. Plus there weren't MD's and things like that.
But putting threat aside, was she about the same? Were there more adds?
It seems that she was a big deal, and now she isn't. Is it that more people know the strat? Is she that much easier? Is it that there are less adds?

overall she got slightly easier, since she used to be inmune to fire damage. and now she isn't.
other than that she's almost the same as before, exept that her health armor and power has been boosted to still be challenging for lvl 80's just don't expect her to be "algalon-hard" or anything like that.
she's been reworked as a celebration reason, and nothing more.
her strategy is basically the same, and now she can also be hit by fire atacks, but nothing new was added to her arsenal, the welps are still a royal pain, and her deep breats can still wipe plp if they don't move, and tehy are still completely random.

same here, heck I even got the classic t2 shaman helmet when I did it, I guess we should all start doing the pre-bc raids as soon as posible, because after cataclysm arrives, most (if not all) of them will be removed too.

Differences between the old and new one :
- phase 1 : none
- phase 2 : the big add didn't exist at the time, you only had the whelps to care about. Onyxia's deep breath was much more dangerous as it engulfed the whole room (except if you were sort of climbing up on the sides) and one shot mostly everybody (except tanks and druids shifting in bear form)
- phase 3 : there were no add pops at the time
Numbers of add spawns and hits are obviously bigger (duh)
So basically, it's a bit harder in terms of what to focus dps in ph2 (have the add die fast while keeping the whleps numbers under control while damaging Onyxia so that the phase doesn't last forever) and the Deep Breath is much easier to avoid, but the rest is the same.
What makes her easy is that now everybody has good gear (Onyxia was generally done in blues and greens with 1-2 epics at the most) and somehow has notion about how to raid.

After having a lot of raiding experience, yes. As far as first kill goes, 40 people and a number of wipe fests were the norm.

In vanilla you also only needed about 20 people to kill Onyx, same thing really..
