Why does it seem like most people seem to think that SV is the king spec and that MM is down there with BM at the moment uless you're ArP MM? I'm a standard build socketing Agi for my MM spec and I do better than SV Hunters all the time. Not only that, but according to the spreadsheet, (yes, I know that they aren't always correct) I will do better dps as MM. Only by 50 or so, but still.
It's just frustrating to hear people talk about MM being trash without actually knowing what they're talking about.
For example...My current toon loaded into the 3.2.2 spreadsheet
Fully Raid Buffed SV Dps = 7285.39.
Fully Raid Buffed MM Dps = 7456.28
And yes, that's an arcane shot using, Agi gemming build.
/end rant

Not to say Femaledwarf's site is useless (it's not) but it's 90% theorycrafting and 10% utility. Maybe 80% and 20%, to be fair. But just ignore that spreadsheet to get real ingame DPS info about your toon, really.

I actually use the spreadsheet all the time to help determine upgrades, best gem's, shot rotation, etc
Yes I understand what you mean and I do not want to "downrate" FemaleDwarf's (great) work but -to be honest- a spreadsheet cannot really help you with DPS generated by random and/or triggered effects ("Use:"). On the same line, the spreadsheet cannot (in any way) predict how you react to situations, how you decide to rotate your shots, how your latency will affect the global fight... and more.
It's pure theory. Say your toon gets a bonus of 15 DPS using a specific Glyph (Kill shot) instead of another one (Trueshot Aura). One thing is theorize a mathematical scheme. A totally different thing is actually raiding, engaging the boss for 4-6 minutes and apply the theory used by that spreadsheet.
In my opinion the only way to see if a specific item/upgrade actually IS an upgrade (or not) is wearing it and going outside killing stuff. Then you just watch Recount, analyze shot by shot and see what happened.

People heard that ArP MM is the best around, so they automatically think that non-ArP is crap.
Which is wrong.

Aww, thanks for bringing back my old post guys. How thoughtful...
Anyways, I've extensively raided as both MM and SV, and each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Some fight are more tailored towards MM and some SV. It's a fact. However, even on a fight that greatly favors SV for instance, the dps difference, and more importantly, the damage done difference isn't all that great. This is coming from my own experience at least.
So yes, the hypothetical dps isn't what I do routinely, but my performance is pretty equivalent. Basically what I'm saying is that when the spreadsheet shows inflated numbers. No doubt about that. But, in most circumstances, they're proportional to what I actually do.

personally, even if SV does ~1-2% more dps than MM overall i'd prefer an MM in the raid, trueshot aura is badass, mana issues are fairly nonexistant, and replenishment can be found elsewhere

True in 25 man. Wrong in 10 man, if you find a PUG with no mana battery of any tipe (and can happen). In that case, mana IS a problem for MM. Not to mention that many bosses do not have mana to drain...
