Agree with Harmacy,
Nightmare Tear
is terrible for Elemental. Good for Enhancement though.
Now, as I see it you have 4 options.
Glowing Dreadstone
- If you're hit capped and don't want any more crit or haste.
Vivid Eye of Zul
- If you're not hit capped.
Forceful Eye of Zul
- If you're hit capped and don't want any more spellpower or crit.
Jagged Eye of Zul
- If you're hit capped and don't want any more spellpower or haste.
Hope that helps.

Yep, it helps.
But the follow-on questions now are "why". It's good to know what the answer is, but I'm the kind of analretentive who wants to know why it's better.
I see every gem in your list is X + Stamina. Why do we (as elemental) avoid spirit so much? Mages (my main is a mage) don't gem for Stam. Granted, they get more out of Spirit than Shaman do. Is Water Shield (in raids) proccing enough to keep us full?
Because Elementals' mana regen is taken care of by
Talents
. That, combined with the fact that our Mana/HP Pool was the game's smallest prior to 3.2 (it's still somewhat lackluster IMO), it's old habit to build it as big as possible.
As long as I have a secondary source of Mana regen, but it Mana Spring or Replenishment from any other class, you have no excuse to go OoM unless you're a Resto spec as a Shaman to be honest.
That, and put into consideration that Shaman are "Melee Casters" if anything, since we have to sit between both the Casters & Melee for our Totems to maximize efficiency. This also means we're more likely to be hit by a boss' AoE than a Mage & Priest, so we gotta be able to take a chunk of damage that Mage should quite frankly never be near lest ye be 2-shot.
Glowing is the only Blue you should be concerned about, and only two of them. Everything else should be loaded with SP/Haste/Crit gems (very few pieces of armor have any worthwhile bonuses).

Ok, the mana regen makes sense, hence no spirit. Leaving Stam as the only viable choice. But the melee/caster thing only sorta makes sense. I don't view us as top dps, but as heavy utility.
That's why I said we're sitting in the middle between both of them: so we can support both of these classes with the totems covering enough of the raid to give the maximum number of people buffs.
In heroics and Naxx (only thing I've raided on my ele so far), I tend to Flame Shock on my way in with the pull, drop my totems at an appropriate spot, then back out (Flame Shock on the way again), then begin my rotation from caster range. Is that wrong?
Not necessarily. In certain fights (Heigan comes to mind), you'll definitely want to be in caster range to avoid nasty AoE / splash damage. But in fights that are purely Tank & Spank, there's really no problem with standing just outside of Melee (I stick with 25-30 range) so you can sneak in a couple of steps and drop a ThunderStorm to regain a lil bit of mana (or if there's a massive swarm of mobs, a Magma Totem for a few seconds can help clean things up before quickly switching back to ToW). Again, it's based on your raid and the scenario at hand.
However, for sanity's sake, let me just add that you don't necessarily need to FS a second time unless it's near end of DoT (iit's the conservative in me talking, but better to have your Shocks off of CD than to just waste it for the hell of it).
In mage country we're seeing Reckless Ametrine taking over, as socket bonuses on our T9 are often worth picking up. I'm still a little while from seeing T9 on my Ele, but are you guys seeing that as well?
Reckless Ametrines
are definitely good (absolutely the most preferred Yellow IMO unless you want to gem for major haste), but we're talking about Blues here. ;) My statement was more along the lines of non-Tier gear, but then again Tier gear is the "very few armor pieces" I would be referencing in this case.
I will say this though: our Tier bonuses in Ele have been somewhat lackluster lately, especially considering our T9 x 2 bonus is basically the 3.2.2 Flame Shock Glyph...

But the 4 piece is oh so sexy
This is why we live with it though. :D

Lava
This (or Totem of Wrath if you already had Lava).
Doubtful they'll change the Tier Bonus it since it's a lower tier, but I'd like to think that maybe the "critical strike" chance will increase. Have to hear things out from Blizzard.

Already have the standard Ele glyphs: Totem of Wrath, Flame Shock and Lightning Bolt. So, in about 25 more emblems I'm going be replacing Flame Shock with Lava
Lash
. Wheeeee.
Fixed (unless you were somehow doing a hybrid build. XD
