You want to do arena properly as a shockadin, but you dont want to be a shockadin.
I dont really think you've understood the concept of a ret/holy hybrid (which is a healer, a shockadin is a DPSer).
First of all the whole idea of it is that since paladins only have 1 instant heal, you'll want to make as many of your FoLs instant through various talents. This was previously done through a 37/0/34 spec, but then Infusion of Light was moved further down the holy tree so that was no longer viable.
People moved over to a 32/0/39 spec instead, which as previously included Art of War and repentenance from ret, and HS from holy. But with points moved from holy (cause we could no longer get IoL) to the ret tree in order to get Judgements of the Wise and Fanaticism.
So to sum it up, no it would not work with sub speccing into prot.
That would give you the
slightly
viable and incredibly flawed prot healing spec that's been going around lately, which for that matter is getting shredded in 3.2.2.

THe spec will come out something like

But since it's PvP, I can't assume how successful it could become.

My original idea was that speccing in prot would give more survivability, whilst most of the damage would come from Holy Shock.
I have no intent to heal in arena, as i was looking to to 3v3s.
That was my basic plan anyways, i just wanted to know if it might work.
I just thought id put it to the forums before going and testing it.
Ah misconception on my part then, 9/10 refer to ret/holy hybrids as shockadins so i just went ahead and assumed that was what you were looking for.
In my oppinion you'd be better of going deep prot for AS, HotR and alot of more survivability.
But as blademeld mentioned, it's PvP. It is hard to assume how it'll end up, but by first glance, my guess would be a big no-no.

You just can't reach the good, synergistic, talents in prot when spec'd into holy shock. There just aren't enough points to make it worth while.
Just my two cents. If you're trying to do some kind of extreme hybrid like this, you'll probably get your best results with ret/holy (either that or spec full-on prot and PvP in tanking gear).

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to go ret instead if you want to DPS.
I can't understand why it's not appealing, after all, you get more attacks and you're guranteed to do more damage.

If you're looking for damage, why not spec ret? O_O

Well, you can do more decent damage spec'd as Prot, rather than Holy.
If you want pure survivability, maybe a survivadin type build, with HS, Blessed Life, Ardent Defender and all the good +stam talents.
But for damage and survivability, yes, spec PvP Prot/Ret in either 0/51/20 or 0/53/18 and don your tanking gear.

Check the Protribution thread - there should be an example of a 0/51/20 build in there. 0/53/18 simply takes two points away from Sanctity of Battle and puts them back into Prot talents.
Not sure if the Protribution thread has been updated recently... I'll check that later, when I'm not so tired.
Edit: The PvP spec is 0/53/18. Take out glyph of Salvation (-20% damage when used) and replace with Glyph of Seal of Vengeance (+10 expertise). It was originally set up assuming that people would use Seal of Blood.
