Ahhh, the good ole' days, where Miyari actually posted here a bit, and not half the threads are fail.
Yes, I blame the newcomers.

Everybody, chill a little. This is getting close to the flame wars all of you claim are degrading the forum.
I've seen a notion that trolls have become moderators. Several times. I am probably breaking an unwritten rule here, but why don't you tell us who you have in mind? Because I am fairly confident none of the current moderators are "trolls". Or have been. Or either if they have, it must have been long before their "trial period", so to speak.
Now, the other thing. We are bad at moderating? Let me be blunt here - none of us really want to moderate Randomness. It's messy, chaotic, our decisions usually invoke a lot of "WTF, MODS LOCKED MY THREAD, IT WAS A GOOD THREAD, UNLOCK NAO, QQ!" (usually with a lot poorer grammar, but the same CAPS). Not to mention that I think Randomness gets more replies and new threads per day than any other forum. In other words - it's exhausting, and with our limited time, it's really not getting to the top of our priority list. In fact, I think we have... no more than 3-4 moderators who dare enter Randomness. Do I think everybody should help us? Yes. But I am not going to enforce it, because I know how frustrating it can be.
And while we are on this topic. I understand a lot of this thread is about MasterOfDisguise, and supposedly something he did wrong. The information I have does not indicate so. Would anyone care to elaborate on this?
And while on all those topics - use the Report system, people. I said it's not humanly possible for us to keep on eye on everything that happens in Randomness. But if you point us to a specific thread or post, then it's much easier and faster.
I'm talking with Rosemount at the moment about this topic--it seems to have taken an unintended turn. You can contact me in irc.freenode.net; my nick is CheeseGamer.

See, gentlemen, it's fine that you all discuss how Randomness fares, and how the userbase is dragging it down, but the last 3 comments (for example, there are many more) in this thread have exactly 0 contribution to the topic. Isn't exactly this kind of behavior - speaking off-topic - what you are all (supposedly) against?

Hi guys. You may remember me, I run this damn forum. It's one of about 30 other important things I do, which means running this forum gets a very small percentage of my time—smaller than I'd like. As a result, I leave a lot of it to the moderators, and don't actually check in here all that often. Despite the fact that I often cannot set the tone of things in here manually, though, I
am
in charge—and I'm the guy who tells the moderators what to do.
What all those of you who are unhappy with the moderation may have forgotten, though is that my email address is public. You can find it on the "
About Us
" page—it's feedback@wowhead.com. That address goes directly to me. It's not read by the mods, nor is it ever shunted off to some other member of the staff to handle—I read ALL of it. There are times when I'm too overloaded with email to reply—but I ALWAYS read it. If you feel uncomfortable with the way Randomness is going, I am
right here
, waiting to hear about it.
Now with that out of the way, a few points I want to mention:
Everybody agrees that they don't like this forum, but most people don't agree on
why
. Some people claim it's the flood of new, spammy, trollish users. Some claim it's poor moderation, or no moderation at all. This is a little like WoW players being angry at Ghostcrawler for nerfing their class—everybody agrees that they're upset, but no one agrees on what's
actually
wrong, and you can't buff one class without nerfing all the rest.
Every forum—and not just every forum, but every community of any kind, since the beginning of time—has
always
found themselves saying what you are saying now, at one point or another. "Everything was great in the old days, this place has really gone downhill" or "Man, this place was cool until the new kids came along" or "Everything was great until so-and-so screwed it up". I appreciate that you guys were into Randomness before Randomness was cool. But people also sometimes have to roll with the way communities change. That's part of being in a community.
Fennrahn: I genuinely wanted to make you a blogger for the WWR. At the time—and MoD knows this—I wasn't yet comfortable with giving MoD the authority. He did a lot of growing up in the intervening time, so when it seemed like he was ready I gave him the ability to do it. At the time, you were nowhere to be found, or I would have involved you as well. :(
More thoughts to come later. Have to get some groceries.

We need mods for only this forum.
I agree completely. But I intend to be very picky when I select Randomness mods, and I haven't yet found someone who makes the grade.

Okay, Mal. I'll say what my problem is with Randomness.
It seems as though the Moderators already have a sense of 'Oh, cesspit...cba' Which needs to change. There may be crap in Randomness, but isn't the Mod's job to keep the crap out in the first place? Maybe if there were more Randomness specific Moderators, it would even the workload between you guys.
Then, you could have a look at Randomness when it's not filled with pointless trolls and +1 posters, but when there's a real sense of Community, which is currently lacking. You could actually see what Randomness is like to most of us.
