So you want three other types of stats to add along with things like:
Haste
Spell Haste
Spell Penetration
Armor Penetration
Attack Power
Spell Power
Defense
Armor
Strength
Agility
Stamina
Spirt
Intellect
Mana Regeneration
Expertise
Hit Rating
Critical Strike Rating
Resilience
Dodge
Parry
Block
Probaly a few I missed, but you get my point.
I'm not saying I'm relieved that they are simplifying, but I do know if they kept adding new stats, it would become a bit too much at one point.

well I think that 80%+ of all wow players never see or read things that are posted here, jerks, etc
So when I say you need more +hit they go WTF are you mouthing off about?
stats confuse everyone and its getting rediculious when I see a pally trying to tank, hey you are not hit capped.....whats that?
Man you need to gem for this and enchant for that....WHAT?
Either make the stats come on all gear or get rid of it..this IS getting rediculious.

Am I glad that they are going to remove defense rating. I was tired of not being defense capped and having to do normal dungeons again to gear up for tankspec before I can finally do heroics with my tankspec -_-
It gets right up your arse, you know.

More excuses for Paladins to Ninja my Cloth spirit gear. Oh, and Shamans.
I think they did overcomplicate stats, but they are now making them far too simple.

This Simplification is a great thing if you ask me it means that my boomkin no longer has to stack 20 things is can just stack 2 maybe 3.

As several others I think they might have gone a bit too far (as of right now) with the stat simplification. As the info looks now my mage is gonna gem in the same way my pala does right now. Int gems in all slots.
This thought is ofc based on the very little info we got right now. Gonna be exciting to see what system they come up with in the end.

I'm looking forward to it, personally. I'm not able to judge it wholly yet, though.
It depends a lot on how the new mastery feature will turn out, how the new talent trees will be implemented and so on...
But the system could need a solid reworking, that's true. I'm pretty confident that Blizzard will to it properly. ^^

Streamlining doesn't necessarily need to mean simplified, so i'm sure the powers that be have already thought this out.
I think that the streamlining process is as much to make itemization easier for Blizzard as it is to make it easier on the player.
Several of the stats that are being removed (armor penetration, MP5 for example) were making it a nightmare for the developers to itemize gear without throwing on stats that really were wasted for certain classes and specs. I get the feeling these will still be available for the classes and specs that need them, through the inherent talent tree bonuses.

God people whine for everything.
They remove 2 stats and merge 2 other stats and change 1 stat, BIG DEAL.
They remove:
Defense:
Was a pain to be def capped and suddently no more and have to regem all your gears because you get an upgrade that had less +def
Armor Pen:
When you need a spreedsheet to figureout what benefit a stat give you, it is bad.
They merge:
Spirit/MP5:
One was ooc, the other in combat... 2 stats that did the samething.
Int/SP:
Int was becoming more and more obsolete. It was on still on caster gears just to add mana with some crit. You basically had both stats 99% of times on any caster gears. Was as much stupid as gears with +str and +AP at sametime. SP wont be removed. It is just that you wont see +SP directly on gears.
They Change:
Block:
This stat was no more what it was and it was still here because Blizzard didnt know how to change it yet.
