Elemental Shaman - Cloth vs Mail

I am leveling an elemental shaman and am loving the process. I am currently level 43, about three bubbles from 44.
I've only got about four mail items equipped, maybe five. But my question is this:
When I find an item that has better stats and it is cloth, does that mean I should equip it or does it matter HOW much better of an item it is? Here is an example.
I may have a mail chest piece that has +12 Intellect and +12 Spirit. I later find a cloth piece that has +12 Intellect +12 Stamina and also a slight increase to critical strike.
In swapping the item, I lose some regen and alot of armor. But I gain a few more HP and get to add to my crits.
Which is better?

Spirit doesnt do much for shamans. Just drink if you need mana out of combat. So keep in mind, SPIRIT is not as valuable for shaman as for other casters.
I'd avoid cloths, but leathers and cloths are okay as long as they provide SUPERIOR stats than the one you already have. But then again I lvled as enhancement all the way until 75, Lava burst FTW.

In my mind, I am actually more concerned about the potential for the lost armor than I am the lost spirit. Or, in this case anyway, would the extra stamina make up for it?
