Nah, when I tank on my Druid, if the DPS pull aggro (normally a Hunter or Enhancement Shaman), I'll save them. But if they consistantly do it, I'll warn them. Yet still, they do it... so I'll just let them die. Or I'll shift into cat form and put on my DPS gear, soon to follow are "um druid, please go into bear" comments. I just say that "so-n-so want to tank so, he can do it for the rest of the instance". That person usually gets the point after that.

My question is, was this justified, or should I be more considerate?

Rhrgrt, actually you gave the DPS more slack then you should have.
Tanks are the hub of any PUG and no need to mention raids and instances.
Therefore, you have every right to be a "hardass" about maintaining aggro, and at the current level you and they are at it's almost inexcusable.
Albeit, there are still beginners out there, lets face it we all were at one time, so that's a different story.
Go with this idea.
1st offense) Explain to him that he's in the wrong. It could've been an honest mistake, it happens (usually in a raid ending with a wipe)
2nd offense) Official and last warning. This time no more messing around.
3rd offense) Assuming you're in a PUG of 60+ level chars, let him die from therein every time.
As a tank, it's your prerogative to take charge and your PUG should know this regardless.
(Hope this helped! And good luck!)
This is
exactly
what I do. It is only fair to warn them at least 3 times before going to extremes. Most DPS are fine, but some are used to being able to do whatever they want. If they are ok with it, they'll watch their aggro. If not, you may have to replace him, but your gain =) DPS are easy to find; it's players like you and your healer that are in short supply!

You presented your case well. Based on your post, I would say you weren't really rude. If anything, the ignorance of the group member causing you trouble was rude.
Get over it & never group with him again. Never accept an invitation without knowing what you're getting into, =P
