While you can't go to some of the areas (less then what is displayed there) we are losing a lot it seems. for instance, the large space where deepholm will exist.
Deepholm is one of the elemental planes, it doesn't actually exist "on" Azeroth. I don't know how exactly they're going to do it, but they said somewhere in the tsunami of info (I'll try to find a link) that it would be below that empty zone on the EK map between Elwynn and Dun Morogh.
This is a guess, but I'm thinking that the empty zone will be some sort of desolate firey wasteland with a crater or portal or something in the middle that we access Deepholm through.
With all the dead space currently on Azeroth if they revamp all the zones, especially since they're giving us flying, I'm betting a lof of that will end up becoming available with most zones probably gaining some territory.

Cataclysm, great flood, remember? It'll be filled with water or volcanic gashes.
I know, I was just saying that with so much empty space on the map they can affort to have a lot of stuff destroyed and STILL have some room left over where we won't be losing territory (as far as total amount, lose in one area gain in another etc)
Meh, we'll just have to wait and see. I'll check back in 18 months.

I guess I'm not following you. They are adding a handful of new zones and revamping pretty much all of the old ones (changing the landscape and purpose). Where exactly are we "losing" land?
Are you making this from like a roleplaying or lore standpoint? Yes, a lot of the land may have new lakes or lava or craters, but all of the zones appear to still be there and are roughly the same size. West side of Dun Morogh is where Gnomeregan is, which I read (might have just been the "rumor" posts) was going to be taken back by the gnomes.
As for the southern tip of Tanaris, it's hardly considered an important land mass, now is it? As far as I know it's used for 2 things: the treasure map quest, and the Explorer achievement... For all we know from that map, we may still be able to get there.
I dunno. I guess the last thing I would have ever expected to see, with all of this information coming out, is someone commenting about losing too much land.

This was just a rough sketch that wasn't sized properly, was just made to get the general idea of it, stop whining.
