It's pretty convenient when you have multiple accounts. Haven't really had any problems with it (except logging in to the PTR a few times).

I haven't had a problem yet. Aside for force of habit making me attempt to log in the old way. :P
You can also still use it to get the mountain dew battle bot pet, if you have a battle.net account.

Just ouf of curiousity: If you have 2 (or more) accounts associated with your battle.net account, is it still possible to play on thos 2 accounts at the same time? I've been wondering, seeing as they have a shared login then.

Yes. I have this done myself. If you have two or more accounts merged with your b.net account, then when you login you get a little list of accounts popup that asks which one you want to use. And they can be logged in at the same time.

I say no for two reasons:
If you don't have multiple games that can use battlenet then it's probably not worth it unless you really think you're going to get hacked, if that's the case you're better off getting an authentication key.
The other reason is that since I merged my battlenet account and my WoW accounts I have had terrible
latency issues and I have never had this before. I've gone from about 200ms to about 1kms and more. I'm not the only one either several of my friends have had this problem happen too.
I guess it's up to you.

Just for lulz, I'd like to point out that a kilo-millisecond, would actually be a standard second. :P
Also, Battle.net is for authentication only, it doesn't change your connection to the main realm servers. If your latency has shifted this dramatically, odds are you have some other issue that's cropped up, coincidentally around the same time. You can reference Blizzard's troubleshooting guide for high latency connections

Gone through everything and my friends are having the same problem I've also seen this pop up on the official wow forums too.

That's highly bizzare. Does the traceroute show where the lag spike is occurring?
Also, I'd try making a 10-day trial account, not linked to a battle.net account and see if there is improvement or not. Just to verify battle.net is the issue.
If you can back up the report with data like this on the official forums, it should help the blues figure out where the problem lies (or at least get them to take the issue more seriously).
Good luck with it just the same.
