Not really modern day. More like a steampunk western.

Have you read the first 3 Mistborn books before?
Yeah. The only Sanderson book I haven't read is the
Way of Kings
.

Start with
Mistborn: The Final Empire
, then
Mistborn: The Well of Ascension
, and lastly
Mistborn: The Hero of Ages
. They can be a wee bit slow to get into (just my experience, haven't heard anyone else say it before though), but once you get in they roll like none other. #$%^ing fantastic books, all three of them.

Ew, you read &*!@ens for fun?
Anyways, yeah, I should finish Dune. I have absolutely zip to read right now except that, but for some reason I couldn't get into it. I read about halfway through and really enjoyed it, then I stopped reading it one day and haven't been able to force myself back 9and it's due in five days >.>).
This is even worse because I have a $5 fine at the library so I can't check out anything else.

I certainly will, once I finish
Dune
. It's weird, I'm enjoying that book so much but it's taking me ages to slog through, since I've been taking random weeks-long breaks from reading for no reason. And I decided to randomly reread
The Great Gatsby
in a week cause I'm weird. >>
But the first 3 books are not steampunk western, they're more traditional fantasy. But they're still bloody amazing. It's the newest one that's coming out, set a couple hundred years in the future after the end of book 3 that is steampunk western.

I think I'm going to grab that. It sounds good.
Also, just decided I'm going to the midnight release of
A Dance with Dragons
at July 11/12. It's the most hyped book in years, and like half of town is going there.

Anyone read the Shadowdance books by David Dalglish (Dance of Cloaks and Dance of Blades, so far)?
I've started in to it and it seems interesting so far.

Reading
Gardens of the Moon
by Steven Erikson again. He's pretty damn good.

Oh and Fund did you know they made a tv show based off the Dresden Files?
Yar, but I haven't watched it yet. I heard it wasn't nearly as good as the books.
Also, the WoT is an absolutely amazing series up to number 8-11-ish. Be prepared for lots and lots and lots and lots of filler.
