Furies of Calderon is pretty good. Especially since he doesn't bog down the plot with superfluous information, like explicitly explaining what furies are.
It gets better as it goes on, as all Jim Butcher series do. The Canim are my favorite.
I'm a little over halfway through Furies of Calderon, and I just got books 2, 5, and 6 from my semi-local used book store.

Welp, just pre-ordered Ghost Story, and the new Mercedes Lackey Elemental Master book; will get the Master book first heh, as that's out in about a week or so.

About to do the Invisible Man for an english class, any reviews?
Can't say I have read that but you can go on somewhere like Amazon and get reviews.
I just finished reading "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser and all I have to say is WOW! It is a great non-fiction read. I urge you guys to take a look at it.
Here is a link...

Invisible man was meh, tbh. I don't like much "classic" sci fi though.

So I started Dune, and I'm about halfway through.
It's absolutely one of the best books I've ever read. I'd say it would be the most original, but I'm a pretty big Warhammer 40k fanboy, so it isn't all that new.

I do recommend reading through
Hunters of Dune
and
Sandworms of Dune
by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. They may not be written by the elder Herbert, but they are written from outlines and notes written by him before his death, and I feel they give the series a better conclusion than simply stopping at Chapterhouse: Dune.
Legends of Dune
is a good trilogy by them too.
Legends of Dune
was a little harder for me to get into, and I haven't started
Heroes of Dune
yet.
The order I read them was more or less publication order: Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God-Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse: Dune,
Legends of Dune
(The Butlerian Jihad, The Machine Crusade, The Battle of Corrin), Hunters of Dune, Sandworms of Dune.
You might be able to skip the
Legends of Dune
trilogy, but I recommend reading it one way or another if you want more information about the early history of the Dune universe.

What I should have said is that it wasn't the craziest thing I've ever read, because I've played 40k.

I understood what you meant; I just figured I'd poke fun at how you said it. It gets a little more out there if you keep up the series.

Newest Elemental Master book by Mercedes Lackey, Unnatural Issue....very screwed up, based on the
something like this or similar
, and yeah...excellent as any of her books are, but still, the father in it is very very very creepy.
Got the
New Dead Anthology
; all fairly good stories, and there are ones done by Max Brooks and Brian Keene, but the best one is actually the last story, which is all twitter posts from a girl who has traveled to the Circus of the Dead.......awesome.
Also picked up the 6 Codex Alera books, and have to say, liking the series so far. Just as good as the Dresden Files.

It's different, but I don't like it as much as the Dresden Files, by just a smidge. They're excellent books though, especially once the Canim come in.

Just finished the Codex Alera. Part of me wishes that wasn't the end, but that's probably the best way to do it. Unless a time-skip is involved, and I'm not 100% sure that he could successfully do that.

I has no money and the library here in town ( get new books maybe if lucky every 10 years) any good ideas on how to get good books? O and the antia blake vampire books are worth a look if you in the mood for sex and vampire that are better then twilight's. ( not very hard to do that)
