It's more the fact that with Harry you have an actual 'character' someone with flaws, and actually grows over the course of the 7 books, experiencing life. With Bella...well, you have someone who is super smart but super nerdy but still beautiful and perfect even though she falls down every 3 steps but it's okay because Edward always grabs her to keep her from hitting the ground and she's so perfect that she makes both vampires and werewolves love her and she becomes a vampire....
Even simpler for me: I made it a quarter of the way through Twilight book one before I had to stop in disgust at the horrible writing, the lame characters, and the over all idiotic story.
I've read my Potter books several dozen times over the last 13 years, and they never grow boring to me, even though I know them by heart. Yes, just like all books, Potter isn't for everyone, but to those who are fans(and let's be honest, it's the fans that 'matter') they are what they are. Sure the overall story is the standard 'Young hero grows up in a dangerous world, facing evil and slaying monsters, and wins his happy ending' but I love Rowling's writing so go figure.
It is about the eye of the beholder, and comparing the two, just makes me sigh, as there is no comparison; Twilight is garbage(personal opinion) and the author of it is a massive diva to the extreme: She threw a hissy fit after the 'newest' book was leaked and said that she had no plans to finish the series because of it.....of course, that's changed since, and now she's writing it again. I'm sorry, but give me the world of Harry Potter over Twilight Myers fantasy land; where the vampires don't eat you, and the werewolves are cuddly and Stupid Sexy Flanderized.
Yet another Edit: Her fandom is also moronic: Yes, I know the books are aimed at 12-16 year olds....but when you have one, after an interview with Stephen King who said he liked JKR and another author, but found Stephanie Myers work to be terrible, and have that little girl say, and I quote "He's just jealous because she's so much more famous then he is!" you have to face palm at the entire group and realize just what she is doing to poor young minds.

did you see that they're twilight-izing little red riding hood? You mean 'Twilight in a cloak'? As that's all it is.....
but in the end it's just children's literature.Similar to the original Fairy Tales instead of the cleaned up ones; the ones that actually get fairly bloody, violent, and vicious.

It can actually get pretty deep.

I'm getting it for Christmas (I hope). They've had it in my university bookstore since the day it came out, and I can tell you, the temptation to buy it was terrible.

I was thinking about getting Side Jobs when I was at Barnes and Noble two weeks ago, but I didn't want to spend $30 )=. I'm a Scrooge. So I got the Ravenor Omnibus instead (whose cover is my icon). Three books for $12, not bad.

I think he means it's children's literature in that it has no sustenance. It's just a story that you read, and you're entertained for a few hours, but it's not memorable, certainly brings nothing new to the table, and certainly requires no abstract thought.
/shrug That's personal opinion again; I can recall all of the books, and once the Horcruxes were introduced, I spent quite a while thinking about what they were and where they were hidden, till the reveals in the 7th book. I've also had thoughts about what would have happened had Tom Riddle escaped the Chamber of Secrets and gone looking for Voldemort heh.

I have finished reading the Idoru by William Gibson a couple days ago. I have also read Neuromancer earlier this month, but that was my second time reading the book.
I always tend to read books when in a bus, tram, or so. This way, a book can last me for a month or more, and i like it that way. I hate having nothing to read. I was sick the last week, which had a devastating effect on my reading material. Read Neuromancer in three days, then struggled a few days with nothing to read, bought Idoru, and read that in
two goddamn days
. I must visit the bookstore again today.

Anyone read anything by Karen Miller? I picked up one of her books yesterday in the store, and so far it's pretty good.

What genre does she write?
Right now I succumbed to Interest and started reading the Sword of Truth.
And Halo books. They're much more deep than the games (granted the games had a remarkable level of story for what kind of games they were).

Fantasy/Sci-Fi.
The series I'm currently reading is called
Godspeaker
, but she also had another one on the shelf I saw that was called
Kingmaker, Kingbreaker
.
Oh, and after the first or second book,
The Sword of Truth
series gets really lame really fast. In my opinion at least . . .
