Not 'true books', but anything by
Hiro Mashima
is quite excellent. I love his art style.

I just read the Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. It has an interesting and (imo) well thought out magic system, along with the way the worlds are set up in general.

Just finished reading the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, and I must say it is absolutely fabulous.

Pretty much what ArgentSun wrote earlier :)
<3 WoT series, read it like 7 times? :P
oh yeah and:
The Gentlemen Bastard Sequence
by
Scott Lynch
(2 out of 7 books, 1 will come this year afaik)
Set in a medieval world, where the main characters are the outcast and become thieves. The books are really nice, with good drama, the thieves beeing really good at some things, but not at others, working in a team, losing members and going on. but alas, in the end it all comes down to revenge, does it not?
The Kingkiller Chronicle
by
Patrick Rothfuss
(1 of 3 books come out, new come this year afaik)
About the man Kvothe who have retired from the world and now run a dusty in. but then a storyteller come to write his history, and he does so, requiering 3 days to do so. Each day and night is represented by a book. Very nice series, who manage to pull you in to emotions, the history gets pulled forward and it's just ... i don't know what to say... awesome? :D
The Merlin Codex by
Robert Holdstock
. About Merlin before he meets "King Arthur" and wanders around "the path" which wounds across the world where he meet both danger, love, war and peace. He is an ancient creature, yet so lively!
Recommend all, and many of the books I've seen mentioned here are
very
nice.

So, I read the Rising by Brian Keene today.... mein gott! Even with the supernatural element, it is an amazing Zombie novel! Starting the second book now, finger's crossed it's just as good as the first.

Sorry for double post but need to put this in here: City of the Dead, sequel to the Rising, was just as good as the first one. His third book in the zombie genre was well written and had me on the edge of the seat a few times. If you have a chance, read all three one after another.

Catch-22
by
Joeseph Heller
Catch-22 is an insanely funny, deep, and overall amazing book. It made me want to laugh, it made me want to cry, it made me angry, it made me glad... and it made me pass 8~ hours (not straight, but over a period of time) of my life as if it were 5 minutes.

This. This book is the deepest comedy I've ever encountered, end of story.

If you dig a little non-fiction/philosophy, there's a fantastiche book named "Plato and a Platypus Walk Into A Bar" that really makes the concepts of philosophy accessable by supplementing them with comedy - the concept being, both humor and philosophy share the common element of flipping your perception of the world upside down.
Very good book. Easy read, too, for a non-fiction book about philosophy.
