Why did they save them from extinction again?
And if the Canadian beavers go postal, we're all doomed up here.
Well, the guy did pick it up for a picture, not to sound insensitive, but do you really think picking up a 60 lb animal with extremely sharp teeth is a good idea? Most animals would bite to defend themselves if they think they are in danger.

As he tried to grab the animal to have his picture taken, it bit him several times.
After reading this bit all I can say is that he brought it on himself.

I'll have to agree- part of having wild animals around is understanding that they're wild. It's not like the beaver broke down his door and attacked him in his sleep. The man grabbed a wild animal and restrained it (which to it means it is about to be eaten) and in it's attempts to escape it got an unfortunate and unlikely bite in on a major blood vessel. A lot of inoffensive-looking animals have the capacity to kill if they get a statistically unlikely "lucky shot," as well as with disease or even poison. People need to exercise some common sense with non-domesticated animals and leave them alone if they are not trained or equipped to handle them. The man chased down the Beaver and wrestled with it- Beavers are not a threat to people going about their lives.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

Eh, his death is his own stupidity, but the article does say that the beavers are starting to get aggressive in that area, and are causing quite a bit of issues. Course, I found that story after reading an article on Cracked so....lol.

They said that the animals were damaging farms and forest, but other than the one guy, they didn't give any numbers about other people who were attacked or hurt by them. They said they were "getting aggressive," but they really didn't do a good job in the article explaining what that meant or if they were pursuing people or anyone else was actually badly hurt. I wouldn't classify a man chasing down a beaver and grabbing it, and it biting him to get away, as the beaver attacking HIM. Where I live, Opossums are considered aggressive animals, especially if they are rabid, and you're supposed to stay away from them, but very few people really get hurt by them unless they're harassing them. If you come across an aggressive animal, you're supposed to go the other way and call someone equipped to handle it. You certainly shouldn't be trying to take a photo with it.

Does it make me a bad person that we use to play "possum soccer" when we were kids?
In case you didn't know, if you kick a possum, they will curl up into a ball, and pretty much stay that way, as long as you are kicking them. Imagine soccer, where the ball occasionally will try to run away....or bite you.

Yep. Definitely animal cruelty. A kid lost three teeth to me for doing that to a hedgehog when I was 10. I just kept kicking him until teachers ran up to, see how he liked it. I hate bullies.
Uses physical violence to stop a ten year old child from doing something you don't like.
Hates bullies.
Ironic...

Dude what the @#$% is wrong with you... I mean I get kids are screwed up, I don't judge a grown man based on their actions as a child. But what could possibly make you think we would want to hear that?

@Magician- I would say that "possum soccer" displays a startling lack of basic empathy, even for a young child.

Well, let's see...
Opossums are considered aggressive animals, especially if they are rabid, and you're supposed to stay away from them, but very few people really get hurt by them unless they're harassing them. If you come across an aggressive animal, you're supposed to go the other way and call someone equipped to handle it.
It seemed relevant.

Also Magician, yeah I'm pretty sure that's a bad thing. Like a horrible thing.
I do find everyone's reaction interesting, although not unexpected. Would I do it now..no. Do kids around here still do it...I doubt it. My sons have never heard of it. Yet, 30 years ago,
it wasn't like I invented the game
...pretty much every kid around here did it. Then again, 30 years ago, this town had 1 stoplight, 1 Dairy Queen, and a population of about 2000 people. Now, it has a Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Wendy's, Sonic, ect, a 4 lane road, and 35,000 people.
Times are different nowadays.
And BTW.....I really doubt that we were exactly "hurting" the possum. They are insanely tough animals. I have seen then hit by cars, and just walk away. I doubt that a few 8 yr olds kicking them around like a ball was doing much more that really, really annoying it.

I think that the act of protecting someone or something weaker from being harmed is much different than being a bully. Hitting someone for "doing something you didn't like," is very vague terminology, and applies to everything from hitting him for wearing green to hitting him for murdering your family. In this case, he physically attacked another person for torturing an animal. Not necessarily the way we want kids to resolve things, but it's not like he was trying to arbitrarily push a kid around. I happen to think that torturing animals is something that other people should get involved with, and I would absolutely call a cop justified to use force to interrupt the torturing of an animal. Wouldn't you? If someone tackled a guy who was kicking the heck out of their dog, would you say the person was "bullying" the animal abuser?
It seems really unfair to characterize someone who defends an animal being tortured as "bullying someone for doing something they don't like."(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

I was more commenting on how he gave such an extreme example of violence, being implemented to stop violence. Kicking somebody on the ground until three of their teeth came out, and then acting like that's a badge of honor isn't a point I would bring up in a discussion about how horrendous violence and cruelty can be.
