I saw this non-European guy walking down the road, wearing a suit and a tie. I couldn't believe it. The nerve of that guy. It looked a lot like the suits and ties that my European ancestors used to wear. My European ancestors were buried in very similar suits, and he didn't even have the nerve to wear a suit that was just like them. He obviously had no idea how important a suit and a tie are to my culture. What's more, is that people from my heritage often went to worship our God wearing a suit and a tie. I stopped my car, and lectured him about being more culturally sensitive and respectful to other peoples. What is wrong with people these days, when people can be that
disrespectful
? A suit and a tie! THE NERVE!
People shouldn't wear clothes from other cultures, especially if it isn't accurate!

Well, if someone turned my national clothing into lingerie collection (ala Victoria Secret) I would be pissed, but rest looks sounds pretty tame and original so ya.Where is the outrage?
NSFW
.But, it is OK, it is not racist if it is against white people.
That's kind of my point. Society says that it is racist to do certain things, except if they are toward white people, which is itself racist. I read this article and two things crossed my mind:
1) Nothing better to complain about?
2) Double standard.

"Nothing Says Native American Heritage Month Like White Girls in Headdresses."
Yeah, Nothing says Native American Heritage like multi-billion dollar a year, tax-free casino's, and
342% interest rate
loans either.
Of course, Victoria's Secret have had their "Angels" for years, and I haven't seen any mainstream outrage, or apologies for that anywhere.

My theory was that White Male is suffering for oppressing everyone in the point, karma of sorts. Maybe at some point it will stop, maybe not. We need to wait till generations that were born in racist/sexist times die out and see what happens after that.
My wife traced my ancestry back to the Mazzara area of ancient Italy, which was occupied by Moors (she even traced me back to Octavian, but that's another story). When the Moors conqoured the location, they even raped many of the inhabitants. Reminiscent of the infamous scene from "True Romance", the physical characteristics of people from that area, even today, reflects this invasion. Since I can point to a time when my ancestors were raped by black people, is it now acceptible for me to be racist against blacks, but NOT for them to be racist to me, based on karma, of something that they didn't do to me, but their ancestors did to my ancestors?
More recently, my heritage can be traced back to the civil war, with my great great great great (etc) uncle fighting and dying to free the slaves. Does this mean that I am free to be racist back to the blacks, since my ancestors "paid their dues", or at least, make it not ok to be racist toward me?
This "karma" thing, about white people somehow having an evil past, is so convoluted and ridiculous. Every people, in all of history, (with the exception of perhaps Native Americans, whom I have ancestors from as well, man by the name of "Chief Big Turkey Feather") have owned and abused slaves. Classifying one race as "better" than another, or one as "getting their karma" is.... drum roll... racist. When will this silliness end? Must we be extra tolerant to people today, in the case of that news article, for the sins of men long dead, to correct the suffering of other men long dead? Must we hold double standards on the people of today to blot out the history books? Will the history books of tommorrow mention the actions of today. Will they say: "Whites owned slaves in America, but it's ok because later everyone was racist against whites"?
Try to see the issue void of societal influences and culture norms. Try to just see the issue for what it actually is. Is it wrong, for Victoria Secret to have a faux native american headress, but acceptible to have, as someone pointed out, "angels"? If that double standard is not rational, then what is rational? Is it ok to have both? Or are both wrong?

I suppose. I just don't like the double standard, that's all. I don't like looking at historical incidents as justification for something I find wrong.

Not so fast.
My guess is, "a safe place" was the nearest pawn shop or crack house.

Way to ruin to the mood, pal.
It doesn't diminish what the officer did, or who he is as a person to have that reaction to seeing someone suffering. I imagine that a lot of people who put themselves before others would find that the people they do it for aren't necessarily the best people in the world. If someone pushes a stranger out from in front of a car, and dies doing it, the died not knowing if the person they saved was on their way to volunteer at a soup kitchen or beat up their girlfriend. African American and Hispanic rescue workers and firemen die trying to save racist bastards who'd like to see them deported for the color of their skin.
Sometimes it's just nice to be reminded that human nature isn't all bad, even in a world where we're more likely to expect the attitudes and responses of the homeless man than those of the cop. The article was about someone who spent a sizable amount of money to do something nice for someone they didn't know just because they needed it, and with no reason to believe that anyone would ever know what he did (I doubt he had the tourist follow him to and from the shoe store). That's still what it's about.
