I am a newbie Priest approaching end levels. I just recently got dual specialization (one is Disc, the other is Shadow). I have a couple of questions for each, that I did not see addressed in the stickies.
1. Power Infusion (Disc tree) - actually, I did read somewhere that this is best used for a DPS in your raid, or maybe for yourself in tough situations. Well, if you're going to put it on a DPS, is it better suited for the top DPS or the lowest? On the top DPS, it will increase their output that much more, but on the lowest DPSer it will help them jump up a little bit with the rest of the group. Which is the better gain?
It's probably safer to use it on the top caster DPS (Generally an arcane mage, that's what I do at least, or an elemental shaman). You just can't trust someone with low DPS to do better even if you buff them, because usually the lowest DPS means they don't know what they're doing in the first place.
2. Pain Suppression (Disc) - on the face of it, it looks like yet another great damage mitigation talent, something good to put on the tank. But the 5% threat reduction sounds like a no-no for the tank who already needs to put out TPS. Is the 5% threat penalty a big deal, or is it still commonly used to put on the tank in most situations?
I generally don't use PS except if we need a last few seconds to survive an enrage (Patchwerk, Thaddius). I occasionally use it if the other healers are flagging though, and I need a few seconds to help top off the raid. I don't even pay attention to the threat part of it, it's never been an issue. Ever.
3. Misery (Shadow) - it will refresh SW:P on your target. However, isn't that technically clipping the dot? I had thought that clipping the dot is a hit to your DPS, that dots should generally go their full duration before being refreshed. At least, this is the rule of thumb for Warlock dots. But since apparently everyone takes this talent, maybe I'm misunderstanding how it works.
Answered that above. :3

Power Infusion
- I have it bound to my pain supression cast so i can serve some delicious hps in clutch moments, like the pull on Auriaya. I have a separate macro bound to one of my top caster DPS for whenever i do remember to use it. Great for burning Crusher Tentancles on yogg. I also have it bound to myself individually, for when i'm grinding, or need a minor hps boost without the PS.
Pain Supression
- Use it, love it. It's your panic button for the tank, or hell, yourself in pvp. I have never once had issues with my tank losing aggro when i pop this.

Power infusion- I always like to whisper the dps either before the fight or at the beginning of the instance that "if you notice a hike in haste, you also have a mana reduction...BURN" Now which dps, usually I dont look too much, helping is helping. The only time I have actually seen power infusion make the difference in a wipe or not was when i was tank healing and a holy priest was raid healing through the instuctor in 10 man nax, I gave him the infusion which meant he could heal through better and keeping me alive longer thus the main tank longer. The last thought is that I cant really say I ever want to reduce the mana cost of my spells unless they happen to come from holy....
Pain Supression- Making this the second spell of the fight might not be the best idea, but 5% really is not all that much when you think about how much threat the tanks are making nowadays. I personally think everyone can use this spell as part of a more normal rotation rather than a "panic button". Think about it, about 30 sec into a fight, just topped off the tank, throw a PW:S and PS on him and take a breather, If a mob can eat through that much damage mitigation....stop trying to two man patch. Now that breather can be to throw out a shadowfiend, catch up on some group healing, or my other new personal favorite, Hymn of hope (though I think there is a bug where if you are not currently targeting another mana using party member it only gives one replenishment). at 1 min 45 sec, it does not really fit into a rotation, but at least once a fight...
