Stamina, Hp that is the thing about tanking.
I think every tank had come across with a raid leader looking for tanks and ask how much HP you have then 2 minute later he telling you sorry, we got a tank with more hp than you. sometimes I was the OT of the raid and I inspect on the tank and i find full stamina gems.... So.... yeah more HP the better I guess.....

What are you talking about mate? If you have no avoidance whatsoever but massive hitpoints this wont help... You will get hit all the time and all the hitpoints of the world won't save you. Except if you have a great healer behind you. Survivability is both hitpoints and avoidance/mitigation. I know that because my offspecc was tanking and although I was def capped and had quite a lot of hitpoints my avoidance was not that great so I took buckloads of damage. Block Value is absolutely useless for DKs as they do NOT use shields. If the tank has a green item in the slot of the block value one that drops it is probably the right choice to roll on it purely because of the +str(parry for DK tanks), +stam and more def rating if the tank is not capped, but only if noone else wants it... Priority should be, as Erol1211 said, Warrior/Paly. But I dont think that is the case we are talking about...

He knows he cant use shields. The chest he says is BiS for a Blood tank is Unbreakable Chestguard. How much parry do you get from strength? I cant figure out how a warrior/pally piece would be better for him than a avoadance one. Its not upgrading from greens and blues its trading one 213 for another 213. Just trying to understand because he seems really upset if we try and tell him he cant roll against warriors and pallys on block gear, if there is something im missing it would be great to figure it out so to be more fair with loot.
Ty all for the help.
To put it simply, this guy is a total moron and needs to get booted from whatever guild he's currently stinking up

rolling on gear with SBV if its an upgrade isn't wrong as long as nobody else needs it thats all there's to be said about it.
Thing is it was stated that this DK was just changing a ilvl 213 piece against another ilvl 213 piece. If one of them has good DK stats and the other one has SBV on it, the SBV item can never ever be an upgrade. Yes, the SBV item might have 5 more stamina but you will lose a LOT more in other stats (like parry etc) since so many item points are wasted on SBV.
Just tell that DK he should learn to play his class.

If you undergear an instance/encounter, gem for stam, but if you already have it on farm and are overgeared or have sufficient health, go for avoidance.
Having tanked all content from 55 through to pre-Ulduar 10 on my DK, i'm yet to see why avoidance would ever beat stamina at a certain "point" in effective HP, especially with the DR on dodge/parry/miss. If HP is the best thing to stack at low gear levels, HP is the best to stack at high gear levels assuming the same content. Avoidance also means less and less as your healers improve their gear.
