So earlier today I went in a failed pug to Heroic VH. Killed one boss but then the healer kept disconnecting so we failed, dpser's got upset and left and I couldn't be bothered to find a new group.
Since I didnt complete it could I go in again in the same day with people that weren't saved? As VH resets when you fail the only difference would be that we would get no loot from the first boss?
Is that right? I joined a group and they told me I was wrong so just thought I would see what you guys thought.

You are saved for the day. period. Once you down a boss you're done until the next day.
You could build another group, and explain that the first boss was downed, and then maybe that would work, but all you would be doing was saving 4 other people to your VH, and if someone from your first group cleared it you wouldn't know until the second boss, which would suck...

You'd just have to make sure that OP was the first person to go into VH. If the guy who starts the event is still there that means the other people didn't clear the instance.
To the OP, yes you can form another group. Just make sure you are the group leader. When all the new people zone in they will be asked if they want to be saved to your instance ID. You can then finish the instance, but like you said the first boss will not have any loot.
What Thuya was saying is that people from your original group could have already done the same thing, with them as group leader and them getting new group members. Remember it was their instance ID as well. If they regrouped and went back before you, the instance will be empty and you will not have a shot at any more of the bosses (and any new people you bring in will have been saved to an empty instance, which doesn't make people happy).
