Now here is the problem with people calling it a defense
cap
.
I will try and explain as to why it's so very wrong even if people are going to say "but hey everyone sais it but we know it's not a cap" (clearly the two previous replies dont know it's not a
cap
).
First of all some facts.
You need 30,75 defense rating to get 1% dodge/block/parry/miss or 41 defense rating to get 1% dodge/parry/miss.
You need 39,348 dodge rating to get 1% dodge.
You need 49,185 parry rating to get 1% parry.
This means that defense is the second best way to stack pure avoidance (depending on your dodge) and the best way to reach unhittable (block cap if you like). If you account for DR
when stacking for pure avoidance you should be stacking at a 3:2 dodge to defense ratio
(a very very rough number).
Now why it's wrong to call it a cap, as i explained above defense is the second best way to stack pure avoidance(once again depending on your dodge%). So when we call it a cap people think that after hitting 540 defense it's worthless. Just throw it out the window and spit on it. I know i did that in the beginning on my DK i hade 544 defense and was doing all i could to get it down to 540 so i wouldn't have some wasted item points (perfection is key with DK tanks, there are enough fail ones out there).
But the true story is that getting more defense after reaching the
CRIT CAP
(if anything) at 540 defense skill the amount of avoidance and block you gain is still there.
Please stop calling it a cap, cause simply put it's very far from one.

This
is the spec I use, its based around threat generation and overall flexibility. If I need to tank adds or just sit around Sacrificing myself to save the raid I can. If I focus down one target I can pull more threat than most tanks I've seen.
I would say conviction would be worthless but 5% crit makes a huge difference I've noticed and my ShoR crits more than not. Plus I use it to get to Crusade which is quite honestly a tps increase.
As for getting benediction it is a complete waste, as a prot pally you should never have mana trouble unless you aren't being attacked.
As for the interrupting comment, Avenger's Shield interrupts spell casting in Iron Council.
