While I'm not involved in the military myself, I know a ton of people that play that are. In fact, WoW has helped to keep me in touch with people in the military that otherwise I probably wouldn't have. And hey, it sure beats some of the other... uhh, recreational activities. ;)
I'm not sure about free, but I'd be all for a reduced rate. That way there's still
some
accountability, though they are getting a break.

Hmmm!
Making something like that will be a huge mistake from Blizz.
You know that WoW is an international game?

As much as I like the idea, I have to agree with SirPunky. Even though WoW started in America, it is French owned now (Vivendi) and an international game/company. With that said, if you do it for American soldiers then you need to do it for Australian, Chinese, Korean, Canadian, Thai, and various S. American and European soldiers as well (and that's just the main market, I'm not sure how big WoW is in Africa/other Asian nations). As someone else also said, something tells me that the (most likely unreliable satellite) internet connection in Iraq and Afghanistan isn't too hot to say the least. Blizzard has to answer to their (twin) sister and parent company now, they can't just do things like that without approval, as much as they may like to.

I love that idea. Ive been playing wow since it came out... I have been playing wow during each of my two deployments.. first one was 1 year, second one was 1year 3months.
But then again, like other's say. This is a business and truth be told most people could care less.
As someone said above me, the connection is crappy, but hey, you can still PvE at 700-900+ latency. I was DPS (ranged) and my team chief the main tank for many raids.
FYI, ive been in the Army for almost 6 years now.

Air force Staff Sergeant here, and I don't mind paying 15 a month to keep in touch and interact with friends back home. Like stated above, thanks for the thought, but it really doesn't bother me all that much. =)
