The spreadsheet is created in the latest version of OOo.
Older versions of excel might and most probably will give you a hard time with it.
Though OOo is free to download from
here

Just a heads up, I still haven't had time to go through the spreadsheet - been helping the girlfriend with prepping for her stats exam, so I've been in no mood to stare at numbers and formulae this weekend ;p
Does anyone know when 3.2 is coming out? If it's soon, then I might put it on the backburner and look through it closely when we make the adjustments, otherwise, I'll try to find time in the next couple of days.

If you're looking at your armory profile 20 str = 1 BV (old burning crusade numbers).
But you're not supposed to add your BV from STR in the spreadsheet since it's calculated seperately.
The base value on BV in the spreadsheet is what you have on your shield. The "value" value is if you have specifically BV on any item, like
this
.
STR most probably outweights hit since it scales so well with ShoR and each point of STR is worth four times as much for HotR.
It could also be that my calculations are a bit off since 1% of hit doesn't actually add 1% DPS (which would seem reasonable to me but i'm not really sure).
Good to hear that my spreadsheet isn't forgotten ;p
As for when 3.2 will be released, wait for it to hit the PTR then we know it'll be coming in 2-4 weeks.

Hmm the BV seems odd. Not sure what to think really.
What numbers are you using across the spreadsheet when you get those numbers?
And how were you able to get an increase in DPS with expertise? You cant get an increase unless you increase it by atleast 8.2 rating.
For me with:
Stat Base Value Total
STR 170 1476 1646
STA 218 1404 1622
SPI 104 8 112
AGI 92 22 116
INT 102 8 110
SP 0 0 486
AP 220 215 3729
WPBase 192 357 274,5
BV 211 0 1344
Crit 5,46 30,22 35,68
Hit 0 0 0
Exp 6 0 6
I get these numbers (adding 9 item points of each to make it fair for expertise):
Stat DPS
STR 8,48
AP 6,62
Hit 5,93
Crit 5,86
BV 5,29
Exp 4,41

Dont know where I read it, but I find it quite true.
The more you have of a given stat, the more any other stat is worth.
Say you have a 100% crit chance. Then basically every AP is worth 2 AP (since very hit will deal double damage).
I realised now my numbers arn't really correct since i added 9/32,79 crit chance instead of 9/45,91. (damn blizz for making 99% of ratings convert 32,79 rating per 1%)
Which would explain why it's weighted higher in my calculations than yours.
Changing this will give me a DPS increase of 4,12 when adding 9 IP of crit. Which is more in line with your numbers.
Still i feel like something is missing out in the spreadsheet but i'm not quite sure of what =/ Feels like i've missed something big.

svirve, should I change the crit chance to 45.91 then?
Yes, all the numbers will be largely dependant on the amount of gear you have. Even within stats, the last 1% of hit will have less impact (1/99 increase) than the first 1% of hit (1/92 increase). Which is why I still advocate a 'naked' approach to start off with ;p
The way it looks, I might have some free time tonight to look at things. The fact that 3.2 is out soon, and that I've only just recently realised how easy it is to farm WG makes it slightly more challenging to motivate myself ^^;;
As for the big thing you're missing... all of these numbers are moreorless meaningless without a comparison back to Ret. We can work out the optimal gearing for Protribution (funnily enough, it's looking exactly the same as 'max threat' for Protection, as it should), but its utility will still be in question until we can prove it's better than a similarly geared Retribution paladin.

Crit chance is added in percentages in the spreadsheet so no need to change anything.
I was just doing it wrong when adding it.
Bah WG is for losers ;p but yea 3.2 made me slightly less motivated for the moment as well.
It's not me missing the ret comparison.. It's YOU! ;p
I was thinking more of the calculations. What i have now i'm quite contempt with since it gives us the oppurtunity to optimise protribution in order to compare it to ret.

Yep, it's me missing the ret comparison ;p
I'll proof check the calcs when I get to it. A part of the uncertainty I have is around the way we've implemented SoB as a separate skill to the melee attacks, and we haven't confirmed that ShoR procs SoB either yet, I don't think.
3.2 blows SoB out of the water. We can continue to use the calculations, but modify it slightly for SoC vs SoV. SoV will be the hard one to model once 3.2 comes out, and we have to factor in the 33% buff.
Possible problems - we've got the weightings, but that's assuming the current stats. I noticed that in your base sheet, you've got an int or spi stat increase somewhere - what's with that? ;p
Possible solution: If we go to a naked build, we've got three main stats that will boost dps: strength, crit, hit. Maybe it might be worthwhile creating a series of 3d charts (strength/crit, crit/hit, strength/hit vs dps increase), to try to ascertain the relationships? 3d colour coded graph with all three stats built in...
I've got a great image in my mind, but I don't know if I can pull it off...
As for WG... I'm a casual player, so it's good to walk in, pick up a few marks, walk back out again quickly. 3.2 is the patch of the alts, so it'd be nice to gear them up with some heirloom equipment...

How's that going, Damoged? Do you have any more feedback? I'd be interested to hear how you dealt with threat, how dps measured up, whether you were following a tight rotation etc.
Granted, many raid bosses don't allow for a tight rotation on account of fight dynamics, but still, it'd be interesting to see how you've been handling it all.
Thought that crossed my mind - is the extra threat generated from the build as a result of Judgement of Light? And might this be changed come next patch, when healing isn't attributed to the Paladin anymore?

Threat from JoL was removed in patch 3.0.8
btw, i really hope protribution will atleast be as good as retribution. i would change from retri to protri if it does :P
Post by
Squishalot
Thanks, I wasn't certain of that. As Ret, I don't do enough damage to threaten the tank, and as Prot, I never have to worry about threat ;p

The 33% buff is just to assume a 100% uptime. It's going to take, what? 5-8 seconds to get there with current proc on SoV.
Then we just have to get a clue on how big the dot increase is.
Possible problems - we've got the weightings, but that's assuming the current stats. I noticed that in your base sheet, you've got an int or spi stat increase somewhere - what's with that? ;p
8 stats on chest ;p it doesnt change anything but i added it just to see if it would change anything ;p.

Hmmmm..... yea... I'm going to use the motivation card on that one ;p

I know WG is a lovely place really ;p
Contempt with? Or content?
Content >.<
I've been keeping a list of my dps on bosses when specced ret and when specced protri as well as the buffs I had. When its a bit more complete I'll have a better idea of how I'm going.
Ooooh sounds lovely ;p
