In addition, the Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide can be obtained from Selina Dourman, who resides in the first tent on your left as you enter the Darkmoon Faire ground on Darkmoon Island.

The Darkmoon Faire Field Guide

It’s your passport to riches, my friend. Y’see, we need a few things -- just some junk, nothing valuable to a big hero like you. We call ‘em Darkmoon Artifacts, and there’s all different kinds to be found all over Azeroth. The Darkmoon Field Guide helps you discover artifacts while you’re explorin’ dungeons, slayin’ monsters, and fightin’ in Battlegrounds. Without a guide, you’d never notice ‘em, and it’ll help keep you focused on the stuff we want. Whether you just reached level 10, or you’ve crushed the biggest baddies in the land, we need somethin’ from nearly everybody. You won’t have to go too far out of your way to get ‘em and each month you’ll get a new opportunity to seek out an Artifact for us. What do you get out of the deal? Don’t you worry, you’ll get your cut. When you bring a Darkmoon Artifact back to us, you’ll get valuable experience (it builds character, you know!), earn a better reputation, and possibly earn precious Darkmoon Faire Prize Tickets too!

When you first get to the faire grounds on the new island talk with Selina Dourman and ask her about the Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide. She's give you a Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide which will allow you to find the required items for the achievements.

As far as i've tested, you have to Remove Insignia and loot corpses to get those Darkmoon Artifacts. Just got one doing it!

EDIT: Just got all 3 Artifacts. They definitely are looted when you remove other players insignias. Just keep doing it and they will show up.
EDIT 2: And of course, as said above, you have to get Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide from Selina Dourman and keep it on your bags.

Seems completely random - just gotta keep looting them dead corpses from the opposition. Got the Banner of the Fallen from SOTA, and shortly after the Fallen Adventurer's Journal in the BFG, and lastly (of the pvp-related artifacts) the Captured Insignia from EOTS.
These can also be sold at the auction house or moved between your alts, in case you do dungeons on your alts and they might have higher chances at getting a hold of the dungeon ones for the Darkmoon Dungeoneer, remember it only has to be level appropriate for your alt, and the item can still drop if they only carry the Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide in their bag.

Also, the same character can loot the same item multiple times and carry several of each in their bag at any time - both while doing the quest and after handing theirs in - as long as you have the Guide with them.

I just achieved this. Simply looted all corpses I could. Found two in Warsong Gulch, and furthermore proceeded to loot all 3 in an Alterac Valley right after :)

~~If you don't turn in the quest~~, You are still capable of looting an identical questitem. However, it is completely useless, unless you want to give them to a friend. This is because you can't do the quest again.

Since they aren't BoP, ~~I SUPPOSE you could trade them to a friend - Needs testing tho.~~ Can be traded to a friend!
Also note; These can still be looted AFTER delivering them :)

Please keep in mind that the quest is not repeatable during one DMF festival. After you complete the quest you cannot get it for the second time, as it states when you use an item for the second time "You have already completed this quest". In other words - you can do the quest once every month.
Now, to all the naysayers, Blizzard has confirmed that these quests are to be repeated each month. Source
They have also stated that the quest drops that happen in the dungeons/raids/BG’s happen all the time, even if the faire isn’t in town. Source

Any word on the drop chance? I've looted at least 30 enemy players so far, in WSG and IOC, but no drop yet.

As you might have figured out, Soothsayer's Runes isn't amongst Darkmoon Dungeoneer or Darkmoon Defender. It drops from raidbosses.

Confirmed drop from Shannox HC.

Also, everyone in the raid with the book gets it, not just one:)

For PvP'ers, Darkmoon Faire (DMF) is the worst thing that could have happened... especially on the PvE realms where PvP'ers enjoy peaceful leveling in the world at large and PvP in the BGs and arena.

I managed to loot all 3 items in a single AV, however, kills were almost impossible to come by on the Alliance side. The Horde, as always, came geared to the max and chose AV to farm DMF items and honor. In none of the 3 runs I did today did the horde make any attempt to win the AV in any manner other than slowly draining reinforcements by killing Alliance.

The vast majority of the Alliance had no clue where to go, what to do, never made a move to take the Hold, down Drek (other than the 3 of us who went all the way there)... and most importantly, the vast majority were non-PvP'ers in full PvE sets. It's hard to miss that when you come upon a Horde warrior with 12 Alliance pounding him and he's taking zero damage without any other horde around to help him. Meanwhile, he's cleaving the 12 to death in short order. The didn't occupy him long enough for my sPriest to kill him before he stunned me and had 2 rogues and a mage arrive to help him finish me off.

That's to prepare people for what to expect in the BGs... because there was a lot of QQ'ing amongst the PvP sect. Understandable... feel their pain... but it's not like they had no clue it would happen.

As for the items... they will be looted when you remove insignia. I managed 2 Journals, 2 Banners, 1 Insignia.

That covers all 3 items.

If you accept the Journal quest, then you can still pick up more Journals.

If you take the Banner quest, then you will NOT be able to pick up more Banners. Since I accepted the quest, I could not pick up the 2nd Banner item that dropped for me... and I do not know if you can stockpile more unaccepted Banner quest items. It seemed to read it as a Banner, whether it was the quest item or the accepted Banner that you must deliver.

Only 1 insignia dropped, so I have no knowledge of whether or not that one acts the same as the Banner once you accept the quest.

It took 3 AV's for me to get my first kill or to loot anything. There were simply too many non-PvP'ers in their PvE gear for me to survive the Horde wolfpacks that they travel in when farming the BGs. In the 3rd AV, a few of us talked and stayed together so as to maximize our PvP gear and skills at the Alliance Hold where we knew we could bottleneck the Horde at the pass in smaller numbers since the Horde seemed to be stayed in the middle areas to farm hapless Alliance.

Hopefully this will mentally prepare you for what you might expect. Taking guild or realm groups into smaller BGs like WSG, AB, etc. might be more advisable because you'll have more ability to control the percentage of PvP'ers in your BG when it's 10-15 instead of the large AV.

My results when I finally had all three were:

300 Conquest Points
1606 Honor Points
11 gold
Around 5 gold in repairs
30 Achievement Points (Resource Glut, Twin Peaking and Darkmoon Defender)

Turning in the three quests will get you 900 rep points with Darkmoon Faire and around 270 guild rep points. Also about 45 gold.

Took about about 2.5 hours of running random BGs. Mainly got queued for Isle of Conquest and Twin Peaks but YMMV -- Good Luck :)

It states and confirms the following:
"Just to clarify one point, the quest drops that happen in the dungeons/raids/BG’s happen all the time, even if the faire isn’t in town. Think of it sort of like the Darkmoon Card redemptions. You’re out playing all month, while you’re doing stuff you’re getting chances at the items, then when the faire is in town you turn it all in. (It’s also worth pointing out that the turn-in items aren’t soulbound, so just like the cards I’d expect some people to farm them just to put them up on the AH.)

It’s really just this first week and appearance of the faire that’s off because the Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide wasn’t available for the 3 weeks prior. When it rolls around next month there should be better feel for how the whole system and ticket acquisition rate feels."

If im right, this achievement will reset after every darkmoon fair event? Cause ive turned alot of them in and when i checked the achievement again the turn-ins are colored grey instead of green. Can someone confirm this?

From now on this or any other Darkmoon Faire achievments in progress won't reset after one Darkmoon Faire is finished.
Blues post:

"January’s Darkmoon Faire achievement progress status was cleared prior to the launch of February's faire. Any achievements that were started but not completed have had their criteria reset. Completed achievements are unaffected.

However, any future achievement progress (February included) will be saved to your character and will continue to contribute towards progression of those achievements in subsequent visits to Darkmoon Faire.

Regrettably, we are not able to restore any progress you may have made during January's faire. We do appreciate the impact this may have had and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Why can't I turn this in as an 85? Is this a glitch? I have the journal and have turned in all the other artifacts but it says I'm too high of a level to get anything out of it. Why doesn't it still start a quest?

Best Way to Ensure Your Progress is Saved

The only way to be safe and make sure you don't have to re-collect the artifacts, save your progress, and to get the achievement later is to save them all and turn them in at the same time.
Don't turn in each artifact quest one by one.
Keep all extra artifacts just in case your progress is deleted when the faire ends and you haven't completed the achievements.
You can also store these artifacts in your bank, guild bank, or auction them since they are not soulbound.
You can also send extras through mail to any server alts that need the achievements.
Turning in these artifact quests also give you about 40+ guild rep and Darkmoon Faire rep per quest completion.

I haven't been able to loot any corpses from PVP ever since 5.0.4 kicked in, making this achievement impossible to gain right now.

I have since 5.0.4 looted one of the artifacts from a pvp player. You just don't get that petty change from them anymore. I believe that IF there is going to be an artifact on one it'll appear in a loot window with nothing else.

Here is a macro for quickly determining which Darkmoon Artifacts you've turned in so far for that month...

After running it you should see each artifact's name and either "TURNED IN" or "NOT TURNED IN" next to it. If you see a bunch of nil's instead just run it again.
