You need to either do at least two of the following:

Get very lucky with drops. Very very lucky.
Buy loot cards and refer a friend
Have a few discontinued mounts.
Be playing a warlock/paladin/DK engineer/tailor.

If you don't do at least two of the items listed above (or part of 3 of them) then this achievement is not going to be doable.

Conclusion:
The only way to get 100 mounts (as of 3.0.8) without farming for rare drops is to be a lock, pally, or DK, have Tailoring AND Engineering, and get all TCG mounts for Horde or 2 TCG mounts for Alliance. Or if you have certain unattainable mounts like the Amani War Bear from ZA, Big Blizzard Bear from Blizzcon '08, the various extremely old racial mounts, or the Arena reward Netherdrakes you can make the process a little easier.

As a Horde, you'll pretty much have to farm rare mounts. You have to get all the class and prof. mounts first of all, and secondly, you won't get the all the TCG mounts without huge luck or enormous real life expense (Spectral Tiger codes go for $750+ while others go for $100+). And if you get none of those mounts, be prepared for a tough run because you'll have to farm 12/14 of the avaialable mounts in order to procure this achievement.

As an Alliance, you'll have a slightly easier time, but without class or prof. mounts you'll still have to farm 8/14 rare mounts.

As a side note, only 4 of the rare drops are easily soloable, Green Proto-drake, Time-lost Proto-drake, Rivendare's Deathcharger, and White Polar Bear. The rest require at minimum a small group of 3-5 (ZG mounts, White Hawkstrider, Attuman's Steed, etc.), or raid groups (Malygos drops, Grand Black War Mammoth, Ashes of Al'ar, etc.). Certain classes at 80 might be able to solo ZG or maybe Magister's Terrace, but most can't.

NEW AS OF 3.1: It seems as though the gab between Alliance and Horde has been closed a fair bit, however, without class/prof/TCG mounts, you're still likely to need to farm a few rare drops.

If you see any mistakes our mounts I missed please let me know. Exceptions are the Arena Season rewards and unobtainable racial mounts (Ivory Raptor, etc.)

no many of the raiding mounts are soloable by people like warriors, pallys, and DKs. I can solo all of the ZG, Attumen, and others.

AQ mounts do not count, so you can scratch 5 mounts straight off the top.
This is not /reasonably/ possible without UDE loot cards or if Blizz incorperates more Faction mounts somewhere down the line.

Not necessarily. Tailoring for the Carpet, yes, but you can buy the Mechano Hog (It's BoE) off any other Engineer on the server.

It's doable, stop QQ'ing! :D Let me do that ;) I'm only 13 mounts away and I got a clear vision of those 13. In my 87 I still don't have any engi/tailor mounts, no black war (pvp) mounts, I still only go ZG raptor, I'm going for white hawkstrider, ravenlord and 3 achieves from red proto-drake. Any of the drop mounts can be switched with a OS drake which I will soon get (both of them).

My question is.. As I don't have any 310% mounts, is this one 310%?

There's a reason they're called "achievements" and not "something everyone can do with minimal effort." Just because there are achievements for /kissing different critters or learning Northrend First Aid doesn't mean all of them need to be that easy. I like having hard-to-attain achievements. It's something interesting to talk to people about when you do a compare or see them in the world with the fruits of their labor.

A friend on my server got this mount when the 3.0 patch first came out he learned them and when everyone lost their mounts from the reset, he got his back in the mail from blizz and relearned all of them, so he got REALLY lucky, he only had about 60 mounts to begin with.

Just a note, 5 additional mounts are being added through the argent tournament. The ones currently available will still cost 100 champion's seals each but will have their look updated. The new ones will look like the current models and cost 5 champion's seals (1 day of daily champion quests - 2+1+1+1=5) and 500g (reduced by rep). Right now I have 55 seals and I believe I missed 1 day of dailies since the patch came out, meaning it will be at least 8-9 days until someone can obtain one of the 100 seal mounts. However if you plan on getting the 5 seal/500g mount, it will only take 2 days after becoming a champion (10 initial seals, 5 on the same day, then 2 more days @ 5 seals per day) to have enough to buy them

well,since patch 3.1 introduced 6 new mounts,and the future patch 3.1.2 will bring another 5,this archievement is quite easy now.What you need to do is just prepare lots of gold and buy every single mount from vendor,of course you can't miss the pvp vendor including halaa.No class mount needed,such as paladin's charger.No profession-only mount needed.No extremly rare ones from dungeons needed,such as zg tiger and raptor.No TCG card ones.Every one can have the dragonhawk!

Was first on Aggramar EU with this. Only "trick" I ever had was to keep going after 50. Everyone got 50 then cheered and stopped collecting. When they announced that there was gonna be a 100 achievement I was already up in 75 or so.

I got 102 now and I aint gonna stop. With the tournament mounts and rares I'll eventually get, I'll probably be up in 120. So, hopefully first to 200 too if that achievement ever comes ;D

I actually have a question about this achievement, if anyone would care to answer.
The profession specific mounts. You learn these by making the item that teaches you the mount, then using it. IT requires a certain skill to use the item and a certain skill to ride the mount after you learn it. However, lets say that you learned the mount and thus it was displayed in your mounts and counted towards the achievement. If you then DROPPED that profession would the mount CONTINUE to count towards the achievement even though you couldn't use it?

Got this achievement on 27 May 2009! From what I gather, I am the 2nd person on Uther to get it. And what a long, painful journey it was. I wasnt going to do the Winterspring Frostsaber, but I hit 99 and was either going to have to wait for another one of the expensive Argent Tournament mounts or another rare mount. So I dug in and did the entire Frostsaber grind in a day and a half, and now I have my Blue Dragonhawk!

Sitting at 88 mounts as of today and the grind thus far has not been easy and the last 12 are probably going to be the hardest. However determined I am to finish this achievement (came this far why stop now?), the reward does not justify the difficulty for a number of reasons:
- First the model of the dragonhawk has you sitting on it's tiny tiny head and it looks incredibly silly.
- the model is a just a straight port of the enemy model and has no saddle. At least proto-drakes and drakes have saddles added to them when they are made into mounts...seriously this is just absolutely sheer laziness on whoever is in-charge of making mounts at blizz.
- it's a 280% flight speed mount that is going to take you more in-game time to obtain than any of the Raid 310% or the holiday 310%, unless you have unobtainable mounts prior to collecting such as Amani war bear. I don't quite understand why they can't make mounts that are between 280% and 310% in speed either, especially since this would be a perfect candidate for such a speed.
- separating Red for horde and Blue for alliance is just plain ridiculous and really for the effort required for this achievement both sides should get both mounts.
- by the time you get this mount you're going to have several flying mounts that look better and possibly faster speed than this, which kind of makes this unappealing to look at and more of a showoff item before you switch back to what you prefer seeing all the time.

I just remember zul jin quote: "Ya don' have to look to da sky to see da dragonhawk!". and yeah, he was right : ) i will have mine today, 99 /100 on my dk and still can buy the exalted son of hodir mamooth, just 2000g more.

it has been a pain to get exated with loads of factions (as dk) to could buy horde major cities mounts, netherdrakes, rays etc, those massive farm into stratholme(97), AQ(4 for red one.. wow lucky!), setthek halls, MgT(58), karazhan, ZG, UP, ages fishing or looking arround in storm peak... (w/o luck with mostly btw).

But even if the dragonhawk is not so cool as he should be, or its 280 instead of 310, Im happy to get that "hard" achievement ( not so hard nowadays but i didnt wanna spend months getting the Argent Tournament that i still havent or violet drake).

I finally did this achievement on both the 3.2 PTR (first) and then on the live realms. On the PTR, I actually received both the red and blue dragonhawks in the mail while only getting the red mount (as expected) on the live realm. I haven't seen this possible change mentioned in the patch notes yet... Does anyone know whether this is an actual change coming in 3.2 (receiving both as the reward) or if this is just a glitch on the PTR? Thanks.

PTR - Sunreaver Dragonhawk( live ) cost 150xChampion's Seal with the 3.2 patch. So.. horde doesnt need to get 100x mounts anymore. Alliance on the other hand, still have to get 100x mounts.

I really hope they change this, I have about 70 mounts on my main, but I put this achievement on hold, until it gets changed.

There's a current bug where the achievement will list the incorrect amount of mounts you have and adding new ones don't count. I was at 77 and learned 3 new mounts (Traveler's, an AT one, and HMGT one), it didn't add to the achievement. So I checked my mounts and added them up to realize I only have 72. The next day, I checked, and I was down to 71. So my mounts are disappearing for no reason. Reported the bug today and was told it's a known issue, but wasn't told *which* part of it is a known issue. Once I have more information, I'll edit this comment.

Couple other things. First, Argent Hippogryph is down to 130 marks I believe. Second, when 3.2 goes live, there will be a rather significant price reduction on mounts, making at least the rep based mounts easier to purchase. This will also, obviously, make getting this achievement slightly easier.

Cool looking mount....Just not worth it...I mean, just to get this mount it is in the realm of possibility that you have a mount that goes at 310%....So why would you ride this thing if you have a mount that goes faster? IMO if blizzard made this mount a 310% mount, it would be much more popular.

WTB Binds to account mount. If you have more lvl80s on one realm/account, this would be an awesome reward from blizzard. If they just made it BoA like Baby Blizzard Bear and the likes, we would have something to strive for. ( and tbh, atm I have 4xlvl80, and this is an achi I will only get on one of em, will never do it on another.. but if Blizz change this achi abit, you could show people that you actually have done the achi atleast )

Sitting at 99 mounts, and just a scant 2 days of Argent Dailies away from 100, I'd like to share several helpful bits of info for those going for their Dragonhawk. I'm Alliance, but these should help for both factions.

Preparing
----------------------------
Classes: Warlocks and Paladins, with two inherent class mounts each, have a head start on everyone else. Death Knights have two, but one must be bought for a considerable price. There's no getting around or cheating this if you're not one of these classes, sorry. Still, easily made up.

Money: A LOT of gold will be spent in this process. Get some moneymaking going, be it an alt with a profitable profession, daily grinding, or just the old fashioned playing the AH.

Professions: Tailoring and Engineering, no question. It should be ridiculously easy, if moderately expensive, to drop your professions for these, quickly push them up to 400, learn all 4 mounts, then drop and re-learn. I am an Engineer/Miner, but never did drop Mining, as I started this quest before they added the Smelt Elemenitum book into BWL, and am a obsessive completionist.

Level: Be 80 before you begin the grind. It's just easier all around

Skills: Epic Flying is required.

Friends: Everything is better with friends. You can do this solo, but it is so much more enjoyable and easy if you take friends along for the ride. They can help make some of the rep grinds less tedious, and even pass rare drop mounts to you ;)

The Easy Mounts
----------------------------
The 5 home cities should be the first collection of mounts you get. Simply do all the starting quests, and get Crusader from the Argent Tournament (You'll need this anyway.) If you're not Exalted with all the home cities after becoming Champion, go pick up stacks of Runecloth cheap, or get them from Stratholme (More on that later). Essentially, you're trying to get Ambassador and Exalted Argent Champion of the Alliance

Mount Count:: 33

Also swing by Shadowmoon Valley (Or as of 3.2, Mei Francis in Dalaran) and pick up all your regular flying mounts (Wind Riders or Gryphons)

Mount Count:: 7

For those with deep, deep pockets, Mei Francis offers a Brown Bear, the ludicrously expensive Traveler's Tundra Mammoth, and an Armored Gryphon/Wind Rider. An Engineer can also provide you with the almost as expensive Mekgineer's Chopper/Mechano-hog. Mei Francis also offers those with 200 Badges of Heroism a mammoth.

Mount Count::
Mei Francis: 4
Engineer: 1

Reputation
-------------------
The Kurenai(Alliance) / Mag'har (Horde), Sha'tari Skyguard, Netherwing, Cenarion Expedition, Wyrmrest Accord, and The Sons of Hodir ALL hold mounts that will speed you to your goal. Simply play the AH for any turn-ins that you can, and when you have some hours to kill, put on some good music and grind a few thousand for those that you can. Dailies will help pad your pocket for when you do hit exalted.

Mount Count::
Kurenai or Mag'har: 8
Sha'tari Skyguard: 5
Netherwing: 6
Cenarion Expedition: 1
Wyrmrest Accord: 1
The Sons of Hodir: 2

PvP
-----------
For 30 Marks from Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch, and Alterac Valley, your Mount Quartermaster in Stormwind or Orgrimmar will sell you one of five Black War versions of your races' mounts. Form up a group of friends and go stomp the BGs for a few hours. Remember, don't AFK out! Even if you lose, that's one mark. Do it in little bits and pieces if you're on a losing streak, and if you hit your stride, go until you're sated.

Mount Count:: 5

Achievements
Many achievements offer Mounts as their reward. The first and most obvious will be Leading the Calvary, which is simply 50 mounts. You get..another mount, an Albino Drake! Several Proto-Drakes are also available from the Glory to the ____ achievements. If you have a guild that can get these, great! If not, well, it's no big loss. I myself only had Glory to the Hero and I'm doing just fine. The Twilight Zone, Sarth with 3 Drakes (10) (25) also gives one mount each. A Tribute to Immortality offers a mount, not to mention a second mount from the Tribute Chest with 50 attempts left - these, however, are still out of bounds for several people as of right now. Culling of Strat Speedrun is laughably easy nowadays, and for those with a taste for world PvP, a Black War Bear is up for grabs.

10m Glory to the Ulduar Raider: 1

Rare Drops
-------------------

This is where you fill in the gaps, and go for trophies. These have ludicrously low drop rates, but require nothing more than simply killing a boss. If you still need Ambassador, Stratholme will provide ample runecloth, and can be soloed by any class. Zul'Gurub's two offerings can be two-manned with moderately geared Tank & DPS, or if you're feeling scared, toss in a healer. Here is a list, I believe, of all rare drop mounts in the game. I couldn't find a way to fit the Sea Turtle (from fishing) in on the list, nor am I skilled enough with Wowhead-fu to remove the Holiday Mounts.

Mount Count: Up to you

The Argent Tournament
A tremendous godsend to mount collectors, the Argent Tournament offers no less than 14 different mounts just from vendors alone. Do your dailies and stock up on Champion's Seals, and use this to fill in what you need for 100. Don't push yourself - as far as we know, those mounts aren't going anywhere. Avoid burnout, take breaks when needed, and go at your own pace.

Mount Count:Up to 14!

My "old" main got this sometime mid-August. I switched mains shortly there after, and I'm now working on it for what is now my "new" main. This is by no means meant to be a bragging post, just wondering if anyone has this for two characters? I imagine some do, and maybe even for more than just two.

Just a tip. For my first character, it was worth it to scrap one of my professions for a couple days. I dropped mining, then did leatherworking and engineering in order to get the 4 (2 for each prof) tradeskill mounts. If you're having trouble getting over the hump, this may help. It costs a few bucks to PL them both, but it was well worth it for me. Happy hunting!

If you want to get a closer look at the dragonhawk mount in-game, the Cold Weather Flying Trainer's mount is exact same model. I just wish the dragonhawk were a little more impressive, all things considered. ;)

So many mounts in the game now this achievement is really not hard anymore if you have decent rep standings with BC factions. Also if you do a faction change, at the moment Wooly Mammoth (Horde version) does not get changed over to Wooly Mammoth (Alliance version). So for an extra 200 badges you can get the alternate version for 1 extra mount to your list.

I have been working on it for a year and today (2010 01 27) i have finished collecting of mounts. now I have 101 mounts but there are minimum 14 more mounts to buy/get. I am a warrior (alli) with engineering profession, and i have almost every mounts from drops: Anzu, Swift White Hawkstrider, Rivendare's deathcharger, Brewfest Kodo, Swift and normal Brewfest ram, Swift razzashi raptor, White polar bear, 3 more warmounts: Black war elekk and mechanostrider and an alterac valley ram, i have black war bear and swift spectalar tiger and a normal (slow) too, and the two achivements mount: dragonhawk and albino drake. So I think it isn't the hardest achivements but one of the most expensive and slowest because of the reputations to every fraction that sells mounts sometimes really expensive. and I haven't finshed yet and as I count i can have minimum 14 more mounts like the expensive argent tournament mounts (costs 100 champion's seal), time lost proto drake, ashes of alar and more more more, and there are 2 mounts from tailoring too. But it was fun! good luck to everyone who try to do this achivement:D it is not impossilbe!^^

Just got my Blue Dragonhawk on 19/9/2010 after about a year of farming mounts! I have my mount breakdown listed below for anyone who wants some sort of guide for this achievement! I don’t have anything too rare, the hardest to get was probably the Red protodrake from Glory of the Hero achievement and the most luck-based are my Green Protodrake, White Polarbear and Brewfest Kodo.

I'm at 99 mounts as a dwarf hunter, I don't have engineering or tailoring and doing it the way I am is very frustrating and time consuming, I have every buyable mount, including every single rep mount available to alliance, as well as several others, I saved Baron Rivendare's mount for last, and hopefully I can bag me his steed before I go insane. Does any1 else think that Blizz should allow hunters to have a class mount like palis, warlocks, etc.? I think a good idea is that we should be able to ride our pets we tame (but they only count as 1, and different rules may apply for owls, and other flying pets).

No one has mentioned, the Vemonhide Raptor now available to the Horde, in Ungoro Crater, its the new horde equiv for the Wintersaber. Its a 20 day daily to get. so the horde are no longer lacking one mount.

also, there are no longer marks for pvp, so each PVP mount in Org/SW is 50k honor each, very easy to get since the upgrade in honor rewards. Also AV mounts wolf/ram are 50K honor as well.

I recently picked up enough money to make myself the Mekgineer's Mechanohog, and also picked up the Wooly Mammoth from Mei Francis. It seems that one of these two isn't counting toward my Mountain o' Mounts achievement. D: I'm currently sitting at 64 mounts total, but the tracker says I only have 63. Anyone else having this problem?

Ok ppl, we get it, a 310% would be nice but even if they did so, it's still not even a unique model.
Imo, we'd be better off with something unique, think about other competitions, the reward is always a bunch of things related to the matter. Win a fishing competition win a boat etc.

So how about a mount... that's made out of mounts? Something that would resemble if rotface was a flying mount. It would make alot more sense and you could even get it mailed to you by the apothacaries in the undercity.

this however does require you to do Trial of the Grand Crusader without anyone dying and have 50 attempts left when u reach the tribute chest :p

56 and counting, i can get another 6 through battlefields at least, this still is a pretty hard achievement. The Mount they offer should be something far more impressive i think.

I currently have 88 mounts, only two of them are 'rare' drops, the Red Qiraji Battle Tank, and the White Polar Bear. There are currently several mounts at The Argent Turnament i do not have, wich would give me 95 mounts. Also, i am 2 achivements away form getting Glory of the Hero, and another 2 away form What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been which are another 2 mounts. I do not currently have the Cebarion Gryphon, which is only easily obtained rep, same as the Winterspring Frostsaber. Also im an engineer and can make a Mekgineer's Chopper. So, you do NOT need to get alot of the 1:1000 percent drop rate mounts. This achievement just takes time, and gold.

They remain in your list of mounts and also count towards the achievement, but you won't be able to use them anymore. I would assume that this is the same for the tailoring mounts as well.

Going for this on my prot warrior (t10/icc10 gear)

Got 76 mounts so far, doing a dungeon/raid farm routine consisting of ZG every raid lockout, Karazhan every week, Magister's Terrace, UP and Oculus every day hopefully.

Assuming these mounts aren't ever guaranteed to drop, i am still doing argent dailes to get the 100 champion seals mount, as i've got all the 400gold ones.

Should hit the achievement easily, as i still have Netherwing rep to work on aswell, gotta get the Violet Proto Drake when Brewfest 2010 hits, and hopefully a brewfest ram aswell.

Started out by getting all the faction mounts, got a lucky break on Rivendare's (dropped on my first solo attempt), then got the Mag'har and Skyguard mounts, all the pvp ones (easy to get now that they are bought with 50k honor), then the Cenarion rep hyppogryph, grinded the Brunjildar dailies for the Polar Bear, got the Red Proto Drake from the Glory of the Hero achiev.

As for money sinking, i only got the chopper (7.5k from a engineer mate), 600g for the Dalaran Brown Bear, and that's about it. Didn't bought any of the grand mammoths.

Preserverance is the key.

Yes, you can get this achievement by learning tailoring and engineering to get the mounts then dropping the professions.

They've also added a pink rocket that drops from the V-Day boss, and a one passenger rocket is the new recruit-a-friend mount.

I really love this mount because its one of the few "180" mounts in the game. By "180 mount" I mean its one of the few mounts that will cause passing players going about their business to turn around a look at what they just saw. The only other mounts that I have seen illicit the same responses are Ashes of al'ar, mimirons head, invincible's reins and the legendary scarab mount =) Furthermore, unlike the other "180 mounts", this mount is attainable for any serious mount collector.

I have a few ideas on how to improve this achievement and its reward.
1.Add about 20 mounts to the game or bring back the unarmored epics.
2.Change the reward to Ashes of A'lar,although the dragon hawk looks cool i would much rather ride a flaming pheonix.And the dragon hawk is only a 280% speed mount whereas A'lar is 310%.This would also make A'lar easier to get as my math shows to get a 100% chance of A'lar to drop would require 10,000 runs of the eye because the drop rate is only 0.01%.
3.Another option is switching Albino Drake for Dragon Hawk,and make Albino Drake a 310% speed mount.

I got my achivement today, had a minor issue where for some reason I had 100 mounts in my spellbook but 99 on the achivement. I just got one more mount and didn't care anyway though just thought I would mention it.

I believe that is all of the ones I have at the moment. The achivement took three months after getting the fifty mounts achivement. I have done Baron Rivendare 186 times without luck and also ZG about 40 times without luck. Blue Dragonhawk was worth it!

Why is everyone saying this is so hard? I got this today, crhonos on baeugun realm, and I have no tcg and no no longer obtanibles... just rep n tayloring/engineering and a rare drop or 5. Also there are like 15 argent mounts

Got that one some days ago, definitely not "hard" to get, but can be long especially if you're not the lucky type. And even so, you do not require that many rare mounts to complete the achievement. For the record, I had 'only' the headless horseman's reins and I still reached 90 or so.

Note : 2 wooly mammoths for one simple reason : one is horde version, other is Alliance. I've been playing Horde for a long time before switching back to Alliance to play with some friends. Turned out that mount wasn't marked as "already owned", and after looking into the issue, I read here on Wowhead that both of them would count toward the achievement. That was indeed true.
Maybe it was an exploit, but I consider it's a fair trade-off for having every reputations or quests linked to the Argent Tournament reverted to nothing and having to farm them again. ( Had I already bought the mounts before switching sides would have been a different story though. )

Ok so it's 11 rare mounts grand total, and I don't really consider the 3 common scarabs of AQ being rare, nor is the Albino drake or the bronze drake. Sea turtle is a matter of luck but you can farm for it anytime, as well as you can chain Stratholme for the deathcharger's reins. Red Proto-Drake is not really hard to get either. Violet Proto will take time if you haven't done the previous events, Rusted requires a solid raid group. Red Scarab can be 4 or 5 manned, just go with some friends willing to give it to you ( almost one drop everytime ). The *real* rare mounts, in the end, are the Deathcharger, the Horseman's mount, and the Fiery Warhorse.

I'm still farming the White Hawkstrider, the Raven Lord, and the Blue Proto-Drake with only one friend ( Ret Pal, I'm Prot Warrior ). I'm also farming on my own the two mounts from Zul Gurub ( raptor and tiger ) before the raid instance is removed from the game, as well as I'm waiting for a green Proto-Drake, while on the lookout for a raid to go kill the faction leaders for the black bear. I could also buy the remaining 5 Argent Tournament mounts, the Grand Ice Mammoth from Hodir's sons, the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth in Dalaran, and the Bike from the engineers. I'm also farming Wintersaver rep' for the tiger. In the end, that's no less than 16 alternate mounts and I'm probably missing some "easy" one...

I'm hoping that they don't eliminate this one with Cata coming out in December. I'm fast approaching 95, with the last 5 being the roughest to get. I want that mount bad, and don't have the Gold to get others available.

HOW TO GET 2 EASY MOUNTS IN 30 MINUTES OR LESS

I currently have 111 mounts and I'll be the first to tell you that 100 is super hard to get, but here's a way to get two awesome mounts in about 30 minutes or less. I wish I had thought of this when I was trying for the achievement. It's actually possible to get four mounts by following my instructions, but this will require more time.

OK, this will require that you're an 80 and pretty well geared and you'll do it inside of Ahn'Qiraj (a forty man instance in Silithus). I know what you're thinking, "no way I'm putting a big raid together to do this". Well you don't have to.

Here's my secret. Do Wintergrasp and TRY to get leader position or as close to it as possible. You do this by being the first one to hit the accept button the second WG starts. When WG ends, don't quit the group. There will ALWAYS be at least 3 or 4 guys who forget to quit or immediately go offline. Now you're in a forty man raid.

Doesn't matter if you have just one offline guy in your group, you can now enter the instance. Hopefully you've set your hearth to Silithus. Makes things a lot faster. When you enter you'll be looking for the Obsidian Eradicators. They drop Blue and Yellow Resonating Crystals (those are the mounts) on a fairly frequent basis. Sometimes you'll just get junk, sometimes coffer keys, scarabs or other cool stuff. On a less frequent basis the Green one drops and there's also a super rare Red. If you get that one you'll score the Why? Because It's Red achievement.

OK, without aggroing anything else kill the first Eradicator, he roams near the entrance. These guys are worth 100 points each with the Nozdormu if you're interested in building rep. If the crystal (mount) drops, make sure you hit NEED fast. Some other jerk who's still in the group might try to steal your loot. Now advance around the corner to the left, you can easily sneak by the four Anubisath Sentinals.

There's a second Eradicator who roams close to the stair which can be singled out without aggroing anything else. Once he's dead there's one more in the same area. My method for killing that one is to use invisibility and run up the stairs to the platform behind the boss. If you don't have invisibility or stealth a flask of invisibility potion might work, haven't tried it. Anyways, that's the last Eradicator you can get.

So three chances, but if you're the LEADER you can walk back out of the instance, right click on your icon and hit the RESET ALL INSTANCES button. Go back in and do it again and again. At some point you'll have to stop because there's a limit of how many instances you can do in a certain length of time. But by then you're almost assuredly have two mounts. Shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes.

This one's easy enough, it just takes some rep grinding + luck. I'm at 99 mounts and about to get #100 (either a halaa mount when i get enough research tokens, or ICC10 drake, whichever comes first).

Mounts I "got lucky" on:
OS+3D 10man drake
ToGC 0 wipes 10man horse
Green Proto
Bronze Drake (CoT, though I think everyone has this by now...)
Blue Drake (Occulus, again this isn't hard to get if you're doing daily 5-mans)
Headless Horseman's Horse (seems far higher drop rate than before, but it's a seasonal mount)
Polar Bear

I also have both 10 and 25 man Uld drakes - the 10man one really isn't too difficult to get now. And of course, the "long strange trip" mount.
I only have 5 mounts from the Champions Seal grind (the ones that only need a few seals + gold), so there's a lot i'm missing there. I didn't win any brewfest ones, and I don't have any trading card stuff or Blizzcon / Promotion things either. This achievement just takes a long time to do. And quite a bit of gold for some of them.

I, like many others, was having issues with one of the mounts not registering toward the achievement. I currently have 91 mounts, and the achievement is listing 90.

I opened a ticket and was told by the GM that it is apparently a known issue. They said one of the class mounts for both Paladins and Warlocks is not counting right now. Of course, no ETA on a resolution.

Just thought I'd share if anyone else was noticing a missing mount.

Got something like "There was nothing known yet, but come Cataclysm things will be revealed".

Those who say this is easy, but who took tailoring/engineering to do it aren't being realistic. On a main toon used for raiding, you have to be better about picking professions. Try doing it on a JC/BS as a raid tank, then see how "easy" it was.

I'm currently at 99/100. Just 4 more days of tourney dailies and I can have 100.

As far as I know you can only get one Netherwing Drake. Everything I have read about the rep grinding has suggested that you are ONLY allowed to choose one drake, so choose wisely. Is this correct or can you purchase all of them?

Of course, add in any Paladin (3), Death Knight (2) or Warlock (2) mounts, as well as tailoring (3) and engineering (2) mounts that you may have.

I hope this list helps future Mountain o' Mounts pursuers. :)

EDIT: Nowadays, you can also easily add the Bronze Drake (soloable by many classes if you don't have it on your collector) or the Amani Battle Bear. If you can't make up a guild group, try looking in trade for people who also want to run for the mount. Also, with 4.3, Alliance will have access to the new Gilnean horses, giving us two new mount options that are quite easy to obtain.

For anyone looking for clarification about the class-specific mounts counting towards Mountain o Mounts:
My problem was being stuck at 99/100 despite having 100 on the mount page. I couldn't find any concrete evidence of why some class mounts counted and others did not affect the achievement tracker. Some of the lists here are out-of-date/misleading, mentioning certain classes get 2 or 3 extra mounts. Thought I should pass along what I learned: (SS link)

...Warlock specific mount counts as a spell not a mount, same is true for paladins and death knights.
The basic starting one does not count, the epic version does.

According to my previous GM tickets/convos, this is intentional and won't be changed any time soon. I was told I would have to earn a different mount for the achv to count.

I would gladly know if there is a upcoming one in any Cata patch, I've heard a lot of conversations that they will add a 125 follow-up but I haven't seen / heard anything about it yet. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but if you have the tailoring mounts, then drop tailoring and take engineering and get the engineering mounts (or vice versa), they all count toward the achievement, regardless of whether you can still use them or not.

I posted this on the horde side of the achievement but it's the same for both factions.

I have looked at several guides on getting this achievement. Some were useful some were useless and complicated. I found this method to be the most helpful since it tells you what you currently have, what you are currently missing and where you can get it. and with this method you get to actually SEE the mounts.

I am also using this method to gather my pets. 2 birds 1 stone.

Follow these instructions. This is what I did:

Look up your character on battle.net (armory). On the main page of your character
Click Companions & Mounts (it's a link to the left side of the screen under Summary). You will now see 2 tabs (Companions, Mounts).
Click on Mounts
Click Not Collected
Then to the right side of the screen under the Filters... field,
Click Show Advanced Filters.
Select Vendor, Quest, Faction

When I did this I noticed that I had not bought any of the Blood Elf Mounts (7 of them) even though I thought I did.

So with this tool you can easily see what you have and what you are missing and then go about getting your 100 mounts! Also use this tool for getting you pets. BAM!

With the abundance of mounts in the game now, completing this achievement isn't insanely difficult as it once was a couple of years ago, but it still requires quite a bit of work.

Use an addon to help you keep track of which mounts you don't have. I used the CollectMe addon, which can be found on Curse's website. It is also a great addon for keeping track of which pets you don't have.

In my opinion, the Red Dragonhawk and Blue Dragonhawk are both underwhelming rewards for the amount of work it requires to collect 100 mounts, and from comments I've read elsewhere on wowhead, most players feel the same about these two mounts. However, if you're anything like me then you'll be tickled pink at having obtained a few rare mounts on your journey to 100 (such as: Swift White Hawkstrider, Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger or Reins of the Green Proto-Drake), and you'll be much more likely to show them off rather than the fugly dragonhawks! So, just one last footnote here, with regards to this achievement what really matters is the journey (collecting some rare mounts!) and not the destination (getting some lame dragonhawk as a reward).

To get this achievement you must run The Temple of AQ 40. Once you defeat C'thun you will recieve this mount and the acievement and title (name The Mountaion Device Collector) that goes with it.

With the new system of account wide mounts, it should be noted that the dragonhawks are also shared with all your toons - even those on the other faction, regardless if those toons would have enough mounts to qualify for the reward. Currently, my alliance toons are over 120 mounts (varying due to class specific mounts), while my horde toons have 77. Yet, all my toons have their faction version of the dragonhawk (blue or red).

Several people have been reporting getting their mount achievements when they don't seem to have enough mounts (e.g. 48, 97, 145 or whatever). I think the reason for this as follows:

I have noticed that if you have the DK/Warlock/Pally only mounts on one character, although you can't see it on other classes it still counts towards mount achievements (check in statistics on the ach tab for mount total). Therefore if you have a warlock, paladin and DK with their 7 exclusive mounts then you will hit the 50 mount ach when you have 43 other mounts etc.

This DOESN'T work for racial mounts you have on the opposing faction but may count the Paladin elekks if you have both a human/dwarf paladin and a Draenei paladin.

Anyone mounts you accumulate from your Stables in the Garrison do not count towards this achievement. I haven't seen any blue posts regarding if this is a bug or not.

To clarify how this achievement works, here is a blue post from support Forum Agent Sylnaxas, posted on the Customer Support Forums::

The overall total mount listing will count Alliance and Horde specific mounts into your over-all count in the Mounts Tab which will make the number significantly higher if you are active on both sides. Additionally, mounts that require a specific class (paladin, death knight, warlock) or a specific profession (tailoring rugs and the like) also will count in the Mount Tab, but if your character can't use it, it will not count towards the achievement.

In addition, if you have the achievement for Warlord's Deathwheel, (meaning that you logged into WoW during the period of 24 July 2014 to 30 Sept 2014) then your Horde Characters will have one additional mount, the Warlord's Deathwheel.

Thus, be sure to check the achievement progress on the character that can ride the most mounts on your account.

This achievement chain is going to 250 mounts, and you are rewarded through the achievements with 7 mounts (3 shared, and 2 for each faction)

The achievement are:
Stable Keeper which require 10 mounts
Filling Up The Barn which require 25 mounts
Leading the Cavalry which require 50 mounts and rewards Reins of the Albino Drake that gives you the mount Albino Drake
Mountain o' Mounts for alliance which require 100 mounts and rewards Blue Dragonhawk that gives you the mount Blue Dragonhawk
Mountain o' Mounts for horde which require 100 mounts and rewards Red Dragonhawk that gives you the mount Red Dragonhawk
We're Going to Need More Saddles which require 150 mounts and rewards Jade Pandaren Kite String that gives you the mount Jade Pandaren Kite
Mount Parade for alliance which require 200 mounts and rewards Armored Blue Dragonhawk that gives you the mount Armored Blue Dragonhawk
Mount Parade for horde which require 200 mounts and rewards Armored Red Dragonhawk that gives you the mount Armored Red Dragonhawk
Mountacular for alliance and Mountacular for horde which require 250 mounts and rewards Felfire Hawk that gives you the mount Felfire Hawk

They count mounts on the character, so when you are alliance, it does not count in the horde mounts. Same with class specific mounts or not counted on other classes.
The journal with mounts which shows you your total mounts, are therefore not an indication on how far you are on this achievement.

After talking to a GM I learned that even though mounts are account wide, only ONE character can get this achievement! I was instructed to buy, earn or win all mounts on one character only. Pick your highest level character and have only them obtain mounts. This was during Pandaria so not sure I'd changed on WoD but I doubt it.

I had 99 mounts obtained by my DK bought one on my Mage and did not get achievement, that is what promoted my ticket.

Let me see if I can make this more understandable for those that are still confused.

I recently talked to a GM and I have (for the most part) figured this out, although I am still a little confused myself about some things. Below is what I do understand..

Do not look in your Mount tab (Shift + P). Blizzard uses the "usable" mount idea per character. What that means is each toon will have a different number of "usable" mounts depending on Faction, Class and Profession. The actual number in the achievement is misleading, it is the total of ONE toon who can ride that number of mounts. It is your job to find that ONE toon. They will NOT tell you!
Check the WoW Armory and you will see the actual number of "usable" mounts for each of your toons. If you have alot like me, it is a painstaking task!
Personally I think this is just idiotic, it makes this achievement misleading, more difficult and very confusing!

Okay, so I recently contacted a GM about the mount collecting achievements because I figured. "Hey, I main Alliance, if I get a bunch of Horde mounts, that'll really help my total!" After grinding Argent Tournament dailies into the ground, it turned out I was wrong. After some confusion about what exactly counted towards the total the GM told me why in an incredibly well detailed explanation that I haven't seen anywhere else. So hopefully it will be of some help to everyone else as well as a possible be-all-end-all answer to everyone's questions. I'll copy and paste the message here for your viewing.

"Hey there,

Game Master Trowarves here.

The main confusion we have been seeing with these mount collection achievements, is that the in game mount counter is going to show you both faction's mounts. However the achievement can only be completed on one faction or another because its faction specific. Faction-specific means the Alliance version counts Alliance mounts + Neutral mounts and the Horde version counts Horde mounts + Neutral mounts.

So if you have a bunch of Alliance mounts and a bunch of Horde mounts, they are separate for counting in the achievement. For example, players can't buy up all of the Horde mounts and buy a couple of Alliance ones to equal 100.

Faction mounts cancel each other out between Horde and Alliance as far as mount achieves are concerned. i.e. if someone already had the two Goblin mounts, getting the Worgen mounts did not count as extra mounts towards the achievement. So players only need to focus on one side or the other (Horde, or Alliance), because purchasing mounts from both sides will not count for the achievements together. Class specific mounts also do not count.

So to get a more accurate count for either faction, you can track the achievement itself or go into achievements>collections>mounts and see the progress toward the achievement on that specific faction. However keep in mind that it can also be a bit off because if you are on an Alli toon, it will show the highest mount count across all Alliance toons, but not necessarily the Alliance toon you're on, and any class mounts might make the count a bit different on the characters with those class mounts.

Additionally, PVP mounts are mostly not account wide. So those mounts will only count on the characters they are earned on. Class mounts also only count for the character they are on and do not stack across the whole account. Lock mounts, paladin mount etc. don't add on each other. For example, if you have 98 mounts on a mage, and a paladin you might have has 3 class mounts, you will get the achievement when you log into the paladin and not the mage. Those 3 paladin mounts will not stack with other class mounts like lock mounts etc.

To help see what other mounts you might be able to get you can also use this option:
Look up your character on battle.net (armory). On the main page of your character
Open the Mounts menu in game (Shift+P)
Top left, select the Filter option
Check Not Collected, uncheck Collected
You can then sort by Quest, Drops, Profession etc
Then if you click on any greyed out mount you do not have, there will be details on where that mount comes from as well as cost for the purchasable ones. :)

So there we have it, the achievement is faction specific, certain pvp mounts (I assume vicious saddles) do not count, class mounts don't count, and profession mounts count only if it's usable by the character I assume. Also props to GM Trowarves for being super helpful!
