To earn this achievement you have to find specific rare/event NPCs in the Battle for Darkshore warfront. These NPCs if defeated or rescued will grant you one Essence of Storms that is used to purchase an Embodiment from the Altar of Elders. The transformation lasts 10mins.

I have only found one NPC, a bear that was captured by a single 200-300k Hp warlock NPC. Once you defeat the warlock the bear will walk off and then grant a token on its despawn. I found the bear at the tip of the road between the two single paths up from Forlorn Crossing and Cinderfall Grove.

Edit: Sorry guys, I found the bear again but the Essence didn't drop this time. Looks like its an RNG system.

You can obtain this achievement by gaining Essence of Storm. You can do this simply by fighting mobs during the Warfront. As you do, you will not need to loot the currency; it is automatically added to your inventory (it is currency, it does not take up space). From there, take it back to Bashal'aran, and turn in there to either become the Faerie Dragon, Keeper of the Grove, or Dryad.

It's possible to get more than one per run. Your screen will blur with a greenish effect and you'll receive a debuff stating that you have been chosen.

Note that you can't get the buff until the Altar building is done, so there is no point farming rares and mobs at start.

1. Farm resources
2. Build Altar, but keep 40 resources
3. Buy the 40% damage buff
4. Kill the remaining rares
5. Push the opposite faction until the end
6. If you get the Essence, dont worry, you'll see it (entire screen becomes green and you get a message and a debuff)

Sadly, this warfront is quite easy so by the time you get the Altar half bases and rares will be done.

the rng for this achievement is ridiculous, i think is as annoying as getting the rare achievement in arathi warfront.
prepare to farm for this one for a while. 3 days farming for this one and only 1 time i got the essence.

it looks like only 2 maybe 3 essence spawn per warfront, so if you are farming for this achievement it will be best to just watch for other players getting the buff (unless if you get it 1st of course) if not then /afk out and requeue for it again

For anyone wondering, you CAN get the buff while you're transformed in any way. I have gotten it on the back of a chimera and while already transformed into a Keeper of the Grove. Doesn't seem very fair for Blizz to give it to you twice so someone else misses out, but it is what it is.

I just got the essence when fighting a horde assault force. I died and then my whole screen was light (it's usually night at the warfront, suddenly it was bright as day). I went back to the altar and bought the keeper of the grove. I certainly did not kill any rares and I am not even sure I killed the elite horde commander. The essence appeared on me without looting and it's a currency, not an item.

I finished it in one battle for darkshore.

1- afk till u get the main base.
2- afk till get altar of elders
3- at this point u prolly have 40 resources on ur chest waste on buff
4- go find those patrolls who comming into little camps and fight the little mobs ofc not the elites or u gonna die&die
5- when u get the essence , take one of them , and find again another patrol, repeat till u get the essence again
6- comeback to the altar of elders , dissmis ur buff, and take another one , repeat 4.

Ok I finally got one after like 10+ runs.

The key is ACTIVITY. Do ^&*! once Altar is built. When game starts run around getting wood, ask ppl to spend wood on Altar in chat.

I didnt do #$%^ damage to Altar was built. Then I went everywhere on the map, killed 1 rare, some patrols mainly, and in general did OK damage, but I know I wasent amazing, just went all over - At 1 time I died.

When I died I got the essence on my first patrole kill afterwards.

Forget about rares. I have killed 10+ rares and haven't got any essence. After that I have tried another tactics and concentrated on killing patrols. And I have got an essence in the first warfront.

P.S. Two warfronts - 3 essences, all from patrols. And 15+ warfronts with 10+ rares and zero essences when I tried to farm rares and killed a lot of non-patrol enemies.

There are 4 rares that I can tell spawn: one south of the mine (always dies before altar spawns in my experience), one north east of bashalaran, croz, which usually dies before altar, one north of cinderfall grove, agathe, which dies most of the time, and a crab north of gloomtide that's very rarely killed before you can get to it.

Edit: Remember to refresh damage buff, you can use flightmaster's whistle if you've unlocked it.

Double edit: I ended up getting 2 essences from waves and 1 from a rare. I used flasks, food buffs and runes.

i can verify some things as off today for you from a alliance perspective:

1) Rares are irrelevant, i killed only a singular one (crab on the shore close to horde base) and got nothing from it.
2) All that matters is scoring a lot of kills, doing a lot of damage and tagging everything you can.
3) Assaulting mobs that run on paths towards your destination are a great method of singling yourself out from the group, so that some random spell caster doesnt get it instead of you, killing those alone i got my first essence.
4) Normal mobs can give you a essence as well, since i got my second one (within one warfront) from normal mobs spawned around the last camp, with the two huge robots guarding the last boss.
5) You can get another essence even while you are already transformed into a avatar.
?6) this i'm not 100% sure about, but there seem to be only ever 3 essences going off per fight, i always scan the groups debuffs and when i spot somebody else have one, i never recieve my third per battle. (this is edited later on)

tldr: Don't focus rares, quantity over quality, all mobs count.

In first warfront i got one essence from assaults, in second i got two as mentioned above and my achivement.

In third in which i wanted to cap my remaining two bases i got afked out and recieved a 30 minute deserter instead, because i wrote this instead of playing <3

I focused on geting the killing blow on as many enemies as I could - ANY enemies. Got the achievement in 5 mins.

After doing this achievement, I believe firmly that killing blows is what gets you the essence. After getting my first after an alledged killing blow, I focussed purely on getting killing blows for the next five-six warfronts, and got the rest of my essences on killing blows each time.

My strategy: Wait untill the altar of kings is built. Contribute all your resources to it etc. I would usually get the regular buff from the altar to increase my dps somewhat once built. Nothing you do up till this point matters for essences. Once built, I would move to the front of the pack that is clearing the warfront. But instead of focussing on commanders, I would burst down low HP non-elite mobs whenever I saw them. There is some RNG involved, but this got me my essences every time.

Is there anything special to pick up the dragon? I had the currency and nature's call buff/debuff and only needed the dragon for the achieve, I spammed that button but wouldn't let me 'buy' it. Clicked on the Dryad and boom, I got transformed (not what I needed)

As of Patch 9.2 that Achievement is still bugged. If you want to turn in Faerie Dragon on ALLIANCE side (Horde got others) - It just doesnt work, the other "Dryad" and "Keeper of the Grove" works fine.

Reported it so many times as bug, together with my guild and friends since 9.1.5

Its the only ACM missing, but they just dont fix it.

*edit* still bugged in 10.1 ........... over 1,5 years now since 9.1.5 .... 100% reproducible ... good job.
! *edit2* The Bug is finally stealth fixed in 10.1.7 - It took only 1 year and 10 months lol !

When requesting help from a GM today, the response I got was just to submit a bug report as if that has not been done by so many over the 1.5 years this has been an issue. :(

From my investigation, I cannot verify any issues, nor are there any reports of this matter. This isn't to say an issue doesn't exist, only that it's neither confirmed nor reported on our end, as such we lack a workaround for this matter.

We usually handle in game issues by applying workarounds set up by the developers, however, we can't actually directly resolve possible bugs, so usually when we get situations like these, we see on our end if there are any reports that match the description given, or more accurately a workaround we can apply to assist.

When we lack a workaround, the best we can advise is to issue a bug report, that's why it is necessary to pass this through to our dev team through the appropriate channels so that they get the full context of the report, and get the chance to investigate it further, I highly encourage you to submit a bug report on our forums, or using the in game report feature, so our developers can take a closer look and take care of this situation once and for all!

Essence of Storm can be drop from any monsters. I just found out a very easy and fast way to get them. I got 3 of them in 5 min in the same Warfront :p

Go rush the last base (where there are the two giants robots) then kills the two patrols of goblins with a bat. Then go a bit north west, there is a ship in the water where they instantly respawn. Don't step to close because you'll be hit by the defensive mecanics to prevent you to rush the last boss. Just obliterate goblins over and over and you'll get essences forever ♥

After only 1 year and 10 months since 9.1.5 the Faerie Dragon Bug on alliance side is finally stealth fixed.
Did it yesterday without problems.

Hello everyone!

my tip to get started with these Essence of Storms.. To be honest i noticed that you can get only 1-2 per warfront. (you can ONLY loot these after the altar is built) once you get the altar completed(it is the one that you need, the one from right side once you get to the base) you run to mine stay there and kill everything inside and outside of the mine. I get 2 off the murlocs and 1 from naga that attacking. the more you kill, the higher is the change of getting those buff. Dont worry, you screen will go green to warn you that you are the chosen one. I might be lucky but since i have done it 2 times on the same place, so you do! if u dont understand something about all these thing just let a comment.
