One in my group received an Elemental Core upon winning a Mythic Island Expedition, however I am quite certain you can get them from any difficulty. This quest was then available from the item rewarding some AP.

After 25+ expeditions I have yet to receive any item besides AP, actual rewards from Island Expeditions besides AP seems to be very rare. We can hope for a doubloon vendor in the future for these items :-)

EDIT 17/09: The drop rate should've been severely increased on all items from expeditions.

I still can't find a lot of information on these. I've done a lot of island expeditions since launch and haven't received any of the quests yet. There are some people seemingly obtaining them at the end of an expedition, but if that's all there is to it aren't they a tad too rare?

I believe these might be related to what you do on the islands, as during the first week, me and a couple of guildmates all got the Elemental Core, and today I got the Bloodwake Drinking Horn after having tussled with some Vrykul.

Would need more data to safely conclude that this is the case, of course, but the small amount of evidence so far points to this being a likely possibility.

Blizzard recently hotfixed the drop rates on Island Expeditions (specifically, on September 14th 2018). While most items will still be "rare" to get for any individual person, there is absolutely a significant difference in place that will let us collect a lot more data.

My intuition tells me that these achievements, I'm Here for the Pets and Tell Me A Tale, will have either higher drop chances when certain island conditions are up for the week - or are outright locked by those conditions. To clarify - my group spammed mythics today with the week's Islands set to the following conditions - Molten Cay with Jungle Trolls, The Rotting Mire with Jinyu, and Un'gol Ruins with Hozen. After a pretty full evening of spamming, we had all received pretty similar items. Razorfin plate (e.g., Razorfin Jinyu) had dropped pretty frequently, and I received a quest with this as a description -

From the variety of repair materials, you surmise that the jinyu tribe you recently faced must travel extensively.

Similarly, some of us received both the Deathsting Scorpid and Kindleweb Spiderling from Molten Cay wins, pets that match the scorpids/spiders present there. We also ended up having duplicates of the Hozen themed toy Magic Monkey Banana.

So there's definitely some sort of themed rules in place, but whether these are high bonuses to specific drops or outright locked to when X mobs are present is unknown to me. Hopefully we'll be seeing way more updates as people continue running them with updated and improved chances.

After the reward droprate hotfix I actually earned two of these (the Razorfin Hunting Spear and the Elemental Core) at the end of a single Heroic expedition.

Magical Spyglass: can be found in islands with pirates, including skittering hollow.
Vorus'arak's carapace: only in skittering hollow (during nerubian, not kobold settlements).

I got razorfin spear and a scarab during a jinyu expedition with tolvir invading.

There is no information on this achieve. Unless you are in a guild and someone slept with someone who knows at Blizzcon....
there is no way to know how to complete this achievement.

I have one quest left to pick up. Its hard to know if it drops off particular mobs on a particular island, or its random. But i have done so many expedition islands that i have nothing left to buy from the vendor. and still i need one more quest.
oh and im only a couple pets short of the achieve as well.

so... do i keep doing this every week hoping eventually it will drop? because Google has no idea.

I'm down to one item on this (the Broken Compass, not that it particularly matters, I would think), and I've run hundreds of islands at this point trying to get that last one to drop.

Does anyone have a good guess as to how far on the far end of the RNG curve this is?

Or is there perhaps something I'm doing wrong to get it to show up?

Any help greatly appreciated. (And yes, I know better than to put in a ticket with the WoW helplessness desk.)

I'm presenting here what I believe is the working mechanism behind this achievement. I have tested it over the last weeks and my results are supporting the theory.

It has to do with the "primary enemy" of the island.

You can identify the primary enemy of each island map by simply opening the mission table, and look at the cartoons. An even easier way is going to wowhead.com homepage, and it will say "Crestfall with Orcs". The "Orcs" are the primary enemy of the Crestfall island. The primary enemy assignments change each week.

Killing the primary enemy has a high chance to a corresponding quest item. Please see following.

Notably, some items require killing a specific rare mob, such as Vorus'arak's Carapace requires killing "Vorus'arak", however this mob will only spawn when Nerubian is the primary enemy.

In a nutshell, this is another insanely time-gated achievement which will take (at least) months to complete.

I'm missing the Broken Compass for a couple of months now and have a question. It says it may dropp from pirates - now I rarely actually encouter pirates, Which island have them, since they never seem to be primary enemies?

Its the last quest item im missing. It just does not drop. Is there a special npc to kill? I know that you have to kill old god minions but they are never active as weekly enemy so i only get them due to invasions. Is it even possible for them to be active or can you only get them from invasions?

What am i missing?

There doesn't seem to be much info on this here, so for those who are frustrated and looking for a means to do this I'm pretty certain the key is in killing the rares, and unlike the other rewards, I think you have to actually participate in the kill rather than just have the mob type be present or killed by somebody on the island when you go there. When you do that, I suspect the drop is 100%, and them being linked to the rares is why you can't get them from Salvage Crates.

Vorus'Arak's Carapace is the obvious one that's linked to a specific rare, but I suspect they all are, which means it's not just a case of getting the mobs on the island, but also getting the right rare to spawn among those mobs and then to be able to find them and kill them.

In hunting the compass I've noticed there's a pirate called 'Spyglass' Marie, so I suspect that's where the magical spyglass comes from.

For the compass itself I was killing stranded pirates on Rotting Mire. I got the quest item on a run where a new one popped up who looked to be a generic named deckhand. The quest text itself suggests the NPC you hand in to knew the person who owned the compass which again suggests the drop is coming from a specific NPC rather than some RNG drop from the race as a whole.

So yeah, best way to do it is to wait for the NPC type that the quest item obviously comes from to pop up on an island, then just spam them on Mythic and run off to gank as many of the rares of that type you can find. I believe Mythic has more packs so there is a higher chance of finding the one you want than just spamming normal islands. The NPC's themselves are generally situated in about 5-6 packs around a certain location, so once you've scouted that out run straight there and cross your fingers that the one you want is up. There is also a likelihood that some like the Glittering Scarab or Ancient Crypt Key are linked to the rares inside portals, so jumping in a portal should be a top priority when it pops up.

TLDR: you have to be proactive in hunting the rares of the quest item you want down. It's not good enough to simply spam islands and play to win. A guy who does 1000 islands and just afks on the boat while their comrades clear it will come away with zero quest items while their friends potentially clear the entire achievement. But a girl who spams 1000 islands and engaged but only ever mines or clears the crabs and other generic wildlife will equally never see one of these quest items.

After more than 100 Verdant Wilds Islands with Keepers of the grove up, many of them multiboxed, I got the Strangling Root. I strongly believe that Life-Tender Olvarius is the rare that is related to the drop. He is one of the only rares exclusive to Verdant Wilds which has quotes, and the quotes he says are clearly related to the quest text you get from the item as well as the turn in. Additionally, he is the only Keeper type mob which has the ability to cast entangling roots.

I got my drop from an island with him on it, I killed him slowly to give him time to emote and cast roots a few times, and I also looted and hit him with strangling vines out of superstition. Good luck with your Tell me a Tale achievements, this was my last and an enormous grind!

I want to let you know that this week "Havenswood with Worgen, Skittering Hollow with Kobolds, Verdant Wilds with Primal Druids" I received the Notched Coin during my adventure at Havenswood with Worgen as main enemy. We did not have visitors the Hozen, so... I dont know how I took, maybe some of my party kill 2-3 random hozen in the island? So I guess there is a chance to receive a quest item even if it does not come from the main enemy.

After spamming islands all day trying to get the broken compass, on Rotten Mire Mythic I got both the Broken Compass and the Notched coin. Just out of nowhere. Like literally WTF! Didn't even think they would drop ever for me. Our strat was to get every party member mass pulling then we grouped at mid and with corruptions the mobs just melted. Only need the Strangling Root now. The invading mobs were dragons. I think the Notched Coin is a completely random drop from any island. So keep grinding and eventually you'll get it!

I got all the mounts, pets and toys before I finished this achievement. Like wtf!

Can confirm that the Broken Compass drops from Shipless Jimmy.

He can spawn when Pirates are the main invaders (got em on the Rotting Mire). More specifically the Shipwrecked Pirates. I've also seen Spyglass Marie, though, which drops the Spyglass.

Now keep praying to RNG Gods for faceless invasions..

Btw, have you ever seen Faceless(Old Gods) as main mob type?

Edit: Indeed, Old Gods can be primary type, so need to rush ^^

I just received the quest item which drops from Old God enemies. They were not the main enemy this week and they just visitors (random middle invite during the isle expe)

Finished today. Most information posted here seems correct (consider the individual pages for better information); however, you definitely do not need to be present for the kill of said rare mobs. To reduce the pain of this achievement, it is well worth doing this 'solo' on mythic with 3 accounts to maximise your chances. It takes <8 minutes of low attention span for each solo clear. My alts that never left the boat or even registered one keystroke - always got the quest item - figures.

With the pre-patch you are now able to do Island Expeditions with your twinks. I can confirm that the quest items do drop without you being max level.

I just want to say this is the most frustrating time consuming achievement i did .. I still need Vorus'arak's Carapace , but that hopefully will be easier farm
So here is some notes

1- Venture co plans :

This is the hardest depending on your luck , it dropped from Olaf security guy .. Its pure venture RNG its not linked to a specific mob , word of advice go heroic and ignore team at start and just look for balloon kill mobs and pray for venture co invasion for extra chance , hunters and Night elf are best in that as you can drop aggro on way looking for venture balloon , once balloon found go crazy finish island for next ne and try not to kill big dragon if there is a dragon invasion you will likely get the scale quest items - quick note that you may find island with no balloon for 3 runs keep going its normal .. another advice is to farm this on week where Jorundall is up it has higher venture co invasion

2- quest items can drop more than once for same character , keep that in mind when farming specific quest item as it may cause not needed one to drop

3- Strangling root :

Dont kill yourself trying to kill specific rares for this one , if the island with old druids show up go crazy on druids deep there . and there is 2 sort of hidden places in that island too one of them surely have the old driuds
Mine didnt drop from the rare mentioned so rest assured its not a specific mob , its just a low percentage and rare mobs have a higher % drop rate , my guess its double the current rate of 1% to 2 % :) which is still low
had nearly 100 runs to see the drop

4- try to enjoy the other drops to compensate the time spent , I had over 500 pets drop + all the mounts and I guess all the transmog sets too

I will update on the Last drop i need when i get the island up

Over two days, I entered 54 island instances on two characters to get my last item for Tell Me A Tale. I noticed:

Whenever I abandoned an instance because it was the wrong island, then queued again after debuff expired – if I queued again on the same difficulty, I would get the same wrong island which I last abandoned on that character. I saw this 9 times, without exception. The chance of this happening randomly would be around 2.6%.
Whenever I completed an instance and queued again on the same difficulty, I would get a different island than the one I just completed.
The only times I got the same island again that I last completed on the same character was when I switched difficulties.

Putting this together, I suggest:

If you abandoned an island because it was the wrong one, then after debuff expires, queue again on a different difficulty. This way, you might have 1/3 chance of getting the right island, instead of a likely 0% chance.
If you completed an island and it was the correct one, queue again on a different difficulty. This way, you might have a 1/3 chance of getting the right island, instead of a likely 0% chance.
If you completed an island and it was the wrong one, queue again on the same difficulty. This way, you might have a 1/2 chance of getting the right one, instead of a 1/3 chance.

This achievement sucks, not only is it a time sink, but it's also arbitrarily time gated. You won't be able to make progress until certain islands and the corresponding enemies line up.
I've been at it for years (on and off) But have been consistentily checking every tuesday for the last few weeks/months for Wriggling Mass, Druidic Fur, and Glittering Scarab. Which require Faceless/Old God Minions on Havenwoods (only spawns once or twice per year), Verdant Wilds with Druids of the Claw (The amount of time it's been primal druids or keepers of the grove... I've lost count) and Tol'Vir enemies.

I wish this were a comment more than a question, but has anybody discovered any efficient strats for farming these in 9.1.5 now that solo queue is here? Personally, I've done a few on each difficulty level (normal, heroic, and mythic) and it seems that normal is the best path. I'm not sure about drop rates, but it's absurdly easy to win on normal and the lower resource requirement means it goes fast.

Looking for confirmation that these drop from solo expeditions in 9.1.5. I have a few left that don't drop from very specific rares, and I haven't see any at all. Can someone confirm they've seen one? Same question on difficulty.

Ironically enough, hunting Vorus'arak for the Vorus'arak's Carapace went from being maybe one of the worst RNG-fests in this entire awful achievement to one of the easier ones in 9.1.5. In a week where Skittering Hollow with Nerubians is up, you can solo queue spam normal Island Expeditions and instantly leave any that isn't Skittering Hollow. Once you did get Skittering Hollow, do a loop around the pit to see if Vorus'arak is there. If not, then leave and rinse/repeat. I know the RNG of Vorus'arak spawning is infuriating, but you can crank through solo queues pretty quickly now and are not beholden to anybody else (or a deserter debuff). I did this rinse/repeat cycle for about 45 minutes before finding Vorus'arak, and the drop does appear to be 100% once you do find him (thankfully).

Finally got Unscarred Black Scale from a Mythic Private Tour. Black Dragons must invade the island mid way through (I've seen it happen both at 4000 azerite collected and like 6000-9000). This can seemingly happen on nearly any island, if not all of them. I saw black dragons invade Havenswood, Verdant Wilds, and the ice one. Either I got unlucky or it's pretty rare, I had to witness many black dragon invasion before I got this.

This might be misinfo- some people swear all that matters the invasion and not what you kill- but once black dragon invades I suggest you find and kill the most black dragon elites/rares you can find.

Is possible to farm 60+ Verdant WIlds this week (right week for Strangling Root) and i didn't drop it? Why blizzard doesn't it greatly increase the drop rate considering it's an achievement from two expansions ago?

Just finished it. Since the last item did not drop during the BfA, I was trying to set a daily goal (1 solo heroic per day).

My missing item was the Glittering Scarab from Tol'vir. It was kinda hard because the Tol'vir are not main enemies but visitors, so I just had to be lucky with either meeting a random small group on the start of the island or have them as visitors.

Now, I found it by having them as visitors, so I tried to kill every single one of them. It is not 100% since I had them as visitors another time as well, and it did not drop back then. I did not kill a special rare or something; I always killed everything!

Skittering Hollow with NERUBIANS Available this Reset on EU 01/11/2023

Best Method for me: Do 1 Normal Private (That is not Skittering Hollow); Than just Queue, Normal Privates which will cycle between Skittering Hollow, and the other Island you haven't done;

When you're in Skittering Hollow just spam a macro ( /tar Vorus'arak ); he will allways be in the pit area, if he isn't there right of the start, just leave instance and requeue; 1/2 chance it will be Skittering Hollow again.

Got my item in about 30 minutes of trying. Good luck

I despise this system. Here we are, 2 whole expansions later and I cannot even get the island I want. I decided to start checking these again and this week Verdant Wilds is up with Druids of the Claw. I queued in Mythic solo, got the island, queued 10 more times, kept getting the other 2 islands. I swapped and queued for heroic. After 4 attempts I got VW. Queued several times again, couldn't get the island. Queued for normal, got VW. Queued again for normal and kept getting the other 2 islands. I thought, well I'll clear both of them this time in normal and maybe it'll help. After doing both of them, I queued no less than 2 hours and never a single VW. Why can I not just specific queue? It's already RNG on top of RNG to get the island PLUS the Druids, PLUS fingers crossed the quest item drops. Now I have to fight the RNG to even be able to get the island when it is available for content that's 2 expansions old? I have 2 quest items I've needed since BFA that I've not been able to get and it's the last achieve I need for the meta. For a title. It's not like you're even getting a mount, pet, or cool transmog. This is the worst.
